Mine just came in today.

Just got the top end prebuilt model, i7, 5500xt, 512gb. Have 32gb of ddr4 sodimms laying around from another project that I put in. Would have just went for the i5, but I figured for $300 CAD more I may as well go for the octacore. Was tempted to say F it and build an i9/5700xt, but I don’t really need the power and I didn’t want to wait a month.

I’m stuck at home for likely about a year, ditched the MacBook 16” a bit ago with the ARM announcement and decided to go for an iMac, figured I’d like to have the last Intel iMac for my home machine, as I use virtualization heavily, and boot camp for some engineering software. As far as future mobility goes... I’ll have to see.

Never actually owned an iMac before. I’m rather enjoying it so far. The 5k monitor is quite amazing much better than my 28” 4K panel.

Do wish they would just offer a space grey model that isn’t the pro. All my other stuff is space grey.

Mine has been “out for delivery” for 7 hours. Maybe my driver is leaving my delivery for last because of all my emails to UPS the past few days. ??‍♀️?

I have 2x32 = 64GB installed. What would you like to know?

Ohh great ! Any problems ? I’m just curious what’s the benefit of CL15 on iMac ? Does it matter ?

I know that some people had issues with HyperX Impact RAM but most of the probably wanted mix them with OEM. But I heard that new iMacs got same problem even with “compatible” RAM from Crucial and OWC, so you need to remove OEM RAM anyway to get full speed and working dual channel mode.

BTW. HyperX Impact are much cheaper 105€ vs 140€ ( Crucial )

The RAM I have is the CL16 2666 MHz 64GB kit (HX426S16IBK2/64) which is running at the full 2666 MHz. I could not find any info regarding the iMac's ability to take advantage of the lower CL (16 vs stock 19 I believe). I also cannot find a good way to read the timing information from MacOS so it could very well be running at CL19. I did not bother to test this kit WITH the OEM 8GB, I just pulled the old sticks out and put the new sticks in. It's been running solid without issues for the last day, but that's all the stability information I have.

I've run Geekbench a few times and my i9 has averaged 1290 / 10172 over 3 runs, which seems to be purty darn good based on the other iMac 20,2 benchmarks I've seen. This is with minimal background processes running.

It has arrived! Ordered on August 4 and picked it up from UPS earlier today. Going to pop in 32GB of RAM from Crucial then fire it up.

Just wanna let you guys know, DO NOT try and install the big sur beta.

I forced it... it hung, but seems to have still installed bridgeOS 5.0. So now my Catalina is kinda glitchy, hey Siri can’t be set up, startup chime is on. Can’t roll back BridgeOS, so I just have to live with it for now.

Should be fine once the big sur beta supports the 2020 though.

Mine has been "UPS Awaiting Shipment" now for 24 hours. Was this the status that you guys saw for a while and then magically it appeared closer do you one moment? :)

edit: Of course as soon as I post it, it updates. Not waiting to be cleared by customs in Ireland. Progress, I guess.

I saw this for a few days before it hit depot in Ontario. I imagine it was coming from an Apple store in Toronto.
