Got my second iMac two and half hours ago, and this time it actually powers on!

My first experience was terrible. It took two weeks to arrive from Shanghai, and when I got it the shipping box literally smelled like poop, there were smudges all over the glass and rear housing, and it was DOA.

This time has been a polar opposite. Delivered from Shannon, and arrived in four days. No poopy box, and no smudges.

Interestingly, when I installed my OWC memory it dropped the memory speed from 2667MHz down to 2133MHz.

I seem to remember someone on one of these threads saying they experienced the same thing, and they swapped the chips around and got the speed back... need to find that comment...

If you haven’t found it yet, the solution is to remove the Apple memory. You can swap the memory around and get 2667MHz back, but you will sacrifice dual-channel (which also negatively effects performance). The only way to get both 2667MHz and dual-channel is to use the same specification memory in all slots, from the same vendor. The only way to verify dual-channel—it is not in System Report—is to do memory transfer speed tests (Novabench) to verify you are obtaining the expected speeds: exceeding 28,000MBps.

Just ordered my first iMac in over a decade. Purchased the base 27” with numerical keyboard and mouse. Says deliver Nov3-10. Does that seem right? A month? Supply chain issue, maybe?

Also, ordered OWC memory from Amazon. Should be here tomorrow.

Really looking forward to it!

I'm in the same boat as you.. estimated Nov3-10. I'm waiting on amazon prime day to see if there's a price cut on ddr4

Waiting on the second one. First was with the nano, 4 weeks. Returned and waiting on the standard glass, on the 4. week now... From the start is was estimated 4-5 weeks on both. Seeing ppl complain about their much faster arrivals ?
Kinda sick, 8 weeks ?‍♀️

Interesting. Logically I would think dual channel would be the lesser of the two evils, so I think I’ll just leave it as it is.

I love the iMac, though. Especially this graphics card. I haven’t had a Mac this powerful (relative to available hardware) since my PowerMac G5. ?

I also returned the nano! What didn't you like about it out of curiosity?

Impact on the images. The texture/noise effect and contrast difference.
For non editing work i think i may have kept it. Still, scrolling on white background was anoying with the texture effect. And you?

I should add I got a really good deal yesterday on ram during Amazon Prime days. Crucial 64GB (2x32GB) kit CT2K32G4SFD8266 for $164 USD (not their official Mac kit, but confirmed a-okay by other forum users.) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07ZLCC6J8 – I ordered 2 kits, 128GB total.

Decided to post fresh versus edit for people who are following the thread for new messages.

Exactly the same thing. Using Adobe Illustrator was a nightmare. The background looked textured even though it wasn't. It was almost as if it had a "Paperlike" screen protector attached to it. Please let me know how you like the regular screen!

Hi, I was wondering where the option to order the iMac with a VESA mount was. ??

https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/buy-mac/imac-vesa (may need to swap country.) I got there from Google but you can also navigate to it from the standard iMac "buy" page:

Just received mine today. LOVING IT!!!! To be honest, it was a rocky start. Before I even took off the screen plastic wrap, I upgraded the memory with 32gb of OWC. Then when I later hit the power button, the thing wouldn't power up! I panicked. But after while, I realized it was just taking a long while for first boot up. Thank God! Now I've got things humming along ok. Still more playing to be done this week! :)

The mouse will take a bit of getting used to, and the keyboard is a bit different, but just a slight learning curve. Already doing my first encrypted time machine backup to external, and various things in the cloud have been synced. I have some more things to do before iPhone Friday!

Congrats on the new iMac! Mine is out for delivery today too, very exciting day. From what I've read from other memory upgrade threads it seems prudent to ensure everything is 100% with the stock iMac (included ram) before then shutting down to upgrade it. Maybe you did do all this before removing the plastic ;) .

In my case I have four sticks coming (also today) but I am likely going to be a little neurotic about it and add each matched pair one at a time in the recommended xoxo pair configuration. (I'll look it up when the time comes.)

The sticks are all Crucial and the same size and order, so there is very small chance of match issues, but something looks off at some point then doing it step-by-step it will have seemed wise. If not, I'll probably feel I wasted 10 minutes.

The mouse will take a bit of getting used to, and the keyboard is a bit different, but just a slight learning curve.

Are you coming from a MacBook and are accustomed to a trackpad? If so, I'd recommend the external Magic Trackpad if you can budget it – especially if you find you don't warm up to the mouse. I actually picked the trackpad in my BTO configuration as I didn't want the mouse – I have an old dusty Magic Mouse anyway. I've been using an external trackpad for years and (personally) prefer it. Bonus: unlike the mouse, you can still use the trackpad while it is charging.

(Yes, now I will have two trackpads but my iMac vs work MacBook need to serve different purposes and will both be regularly setup. I sometimes also use the trackpad from my iPad. Better two as I can keep them paired to different devices, rather than a mouse I'd never use.)

Anyway, enjoy your new Mac!
