I also ordered mine from the Government store..Funny. We'll see how it all turns out! I hope it comes soon, obviously!
so in waiting for my iMac to ship I've started too stare at my order status daily and noticed today that it says SD at the end which is short for super drive I'm guessing. Well it got me to wondering why they'd even put that since a SuperDrive is the only choice. So ive decided that they will add Blu ray as BTO option and call it a SDD short for superduperdrive
Um, are you planning to do that once it's missed shipment, or do you plan on fishing around for a handout before the clock's even run out? Seems there's nothing to complain about yet...
I'm on a fence about it - I'd like for my iMac to ship on time (27th-29th), but if it's late, I wouldn't mind working the system for a little sumptin'-sumptin.

Decision time....
Amazon just got the 24" 2.4 ghz in stock and I can order it and upgrade the shipping and have it here before the holiday weekend and save myself around $200.00 in the process even factoring in maxing out the RAM to 4 GB (third party RAM) and sacrificing the $100.00 printer rebate and the $50.00 break Apple gave me when I ordered the 2.8 model.
So, to be safe, I just placed an order with Amazon with free super saver shipping (I can always go back and upgrade the shipping once I make up my mind here) to secure one before they sell out while I stall and try and collect my thoughts here.
My 2.8 is still "not yet shipped" but the dates still show shipping 8/27-8/29. I am really hoping to get it before the holiday weekend. This would be a shoe-in with Amazon and not so likely with Apple unless it ships today-maybe even tomorrow. I've bought my last several Apple computers from Amazon-they have a great no hassle returns policy and I've always had great peace of mind with that. Not to mention no tax and I get triple dollar points which translates into a $75.00 credit towards Amazon.
I really hate to give up the 2.8 ghz, though. I mainly run Aperture and photoshop with a little iMovie thrown in...is hanging on to the top of the line configuration worth the extra money or the extra wait?

Well my replacement didn't ship today. So much for the "higher priority".
I probably won't get it until next week then. I think I'll call up Apple tomorrow to see if I can get some sort of compensation. Waiting nearly a month to get a working computer sure is a long time. And I don't even know if the one I'm getting has the same issue or not.

You probably wouldn't notice the difference really. RAM is more important for those apps.
That's what I'm thinking as well...and you can always add hd space with an external drive.
Looks like Amazon isn't shipping any out until Weds, the 29th for some reason-even if you pay for overnight shipping. Crap. Meanwhile, my 2.8 will ship in the same time frame if it ships to schedule. So, the only way I'd be able to get the one from Amazon by the weekend would be to pony up for second day or overnight shipping (and additional $45-86). And if my 2.8 ships, there is a chance that it could be delivered on Saturday which gives an extra day of hope.
Too, I hate to have waited this long for the 2.8 just to cancel now... What to do...!!

I ordered the top of the line stock configuration with no changes to it; therefore, it's not considered a CTO order (I also confirmed this with Apple to be certain).

On 8/17 I ordered 24" 2.8 with 2 GB RAM, 750GB disk, wired KB from Govt. store. Projected ship date was 8/24 - 8/28. Sometime this evening 8/27 status changed to "Prepared for shipment".
Looking forward to it since I'm using a 400Mhz G4 AGP w. 17" CRT Studio monitor at home and a G5 Tower w. 23" Cinema display at work. A bit of a speed bump on the way home from work you might say
