I went ahead and ordered from the site PsstGreek posted except just: http://www.swiftunlocks.com . Paid on the site after checking my IMEI. Got the reply email after about 6 hrs or so and got my phone unlocked now. I'm happy and will recommend this site in the future. Thanks PsstGreek!

I just ordered an unlock from them for my 4S. I will report back if/when it gets unlocked.

Well, less than 4 hours after I spent the $1.99, my phone is unlocked! I was skeptical, but the swiftunlocks.com site really works.

Try typing your IMEI into the online checker at the website and it'll let you know if it can be done.

I'd been looking at unlock_fusion's ebay listing for over two weeks. Just tried using above site, got unlocked in 2 hours... Thanks guys!

Don't waste your money with UnlockFusion. They are criminals

After seeing them on eBay and so may great feedbacks, I went direct to their website and paid for an unlock.

After payment I received an automated email message that they could not process my order unless I sent them "a copy of my government issued ID."

That was a red alarm for ID theft for me. I would never send a copy of my Id through email and why would they even need it. I contacted PayPal and requested a charge back.

Then I get a personal email from UnlockFusion asking, "Hey why did you request a charge back?" When I explained, they apologized and said it was a mistake but if I reversed the charge back they would go ahead and unlock my phone. Ok, I figured I give them a shot at an unlock if they don't want my personal ID info.

Well three weeks later now and not one answer to my countless emails. They took my money and never gave me my unlock code.

I am now in discussion with PayPal to investigate and I am pretty sure the service rep I am speaking with will re-start my charge back request since I have been with them for so many years. But this is an exception, normally PayPal does not re-start cancelled charge backs.

Buyer beware. I hope this helps someone else from loosing their time and money.

Worked for me, purchased at 10pm PST and got unlocked less than 14 hours later. Great speed considering I bought it way out of the hours I'd expect them to be working.

Which website?

Aha, that's it then, makes sense. A site that's tricking users of the real ebay seller.

Kinda sucks when this sort of thing happens :\

Yeah, maybe the first post should be updated to show that the people behind unlock_fusion are now doing their unlocks under swiftunlocks. I just ordered another unlock under swiftunlocks (link that PsstGreek posted), and if you order by PayPal, you'll see that the gmail & description linked to the swiftunlocks PayPal is named 'unlockfusion' & 'Phone Unlocking Store' which is the same as when they did it through ebay.

Helps to note that unlock_fusion/swiftunlocks will usually do their iPhone unlocks for $2-5. I looked at the fake 'UnlockFusion' and saw that their prices were at $9.95, which isn't the price u_f does it at this time.

To be a bit off topic though, I haven't been in on the whole unlocking cell phones business for long, but apparently unlocking phones without permission of the carrier is now illegal in the U.S. as of the 26th? How does this affect the current state of unlocking?

Yes, that's the latest news. Looking at the details it only applies to all subsidized phones obtained under contract on and after January 26, 2013.

We will be updating our site with a disclaimer with that information later on today. We provide legit unlocks for many brands and models (including iPhones), no "inside jobs". We also provide 100% refunds if we can't deliver. I'm not advertising, just informing that there are reputable unlockers out there.

I'm sure we will have individuals who will still attempt to unlock "forbidden" phones. Right now, there's no way for us to filter those out without manual intervention on every order, since our site is automated. It's going to be very interesting to see what happens. I'll post anything meaningful in the future.

Exactly what the bro said above. The real unlock fusion from ebay has a website called swift unlocks.
Unlock fusion himself gave it to me via email before his ebay auctions were pulled.
That other website mentioned above is a fake and I wouldnt advise anyone to risk using them.

For anyone interested, here's a link to the petition to make unlocking legal:

This is real simple dont buy a locked iPhone

Sounds simple, but not so simple for individuals who may need to travel outside of the USA and don't plan on switching carriers upon returning. All they want to do is use their fully loaded phone while abroad, without being gouged by paying outrageous roaming fees.

Sure, everyone has a choice, but sometimes it isn't so cut n dried as people make it out to be. Maybe an exception might be made this time around, but exceptions were very rarely made for anyone using a locked iPhone on AT&T before April 2012.

I didn't think of that good point

I just returned from a 3 day trip to Jamaica. I unlocked my iPhone 4S the day before I left, and I purchased a Digicel SIM card with 700 minutes to the USA for $24 US when I got down there.

Now, compare that to AT&T charging me $2.50 per minute to make phone calls while traveling in Jamaica. The local SIM card paid for itself after less than 10 minutes of calling.

My iPhone 4 was unlocked by AT&T but I previously had it jailbroken. I did the steps in the AT&T email I received but I don't get the congratulations your iPhone is unlocked message when I restore it. Anyone have any idea what to do?

Throw in an unofficial sim to test.
You don't always get the window.

You wont always get the congrats message even though your phone is unlocked.
I did an erase all 3 times and activated an iphone a bunch of times and still wouldnt receive that window.
I put in a tmobile sim and worked fine. So it was unlocked.
Dont be discouraged if you dont see that message, try a foreign sim to be 100%.
