Bought a $30 AT&T iPhone 5 unlock from unlockphonenetwork.com and received an email an hour later saying that the unlock code was not available for my phone but for an extra $10 they would get the unlock "direct from the manufacturer".
Sounds like a load of crap, I asked for a refund but it looks like they're much faster collecting the money than refunding it.
I also have a T-Mobile Xperia Z to unlock, and prices have been going through the roof there too, I can't find one under $40.
This sucks! Unlocks were not even $5 just a month ago. I guess I'll just wait until the prices go down, hopefully it won't take too long.

That's odd. I haven't gotten this response from my 1-60 Minute Unlock supplier or my 1-3 day Unlock supplier.

Are you doing unlocks now? What's the ETA? Link?

Does anyone have a recommendation of a site they've used in the last 24 hours that's worked? LINK, not just "oh so and so" please :)

Does anyone know if you pay full price with no service for a "device only" AT&T iPhone 5s from an Apple Store will it be unlocked out of the box?

Ive read some people say yes and some say no. I called my Apple store directly and they said that you cant get an unlocked iphone 5s period, even the "contract free" T-Mobile one on Apple's webpage, but I have read that this is just the corporate reply that they are required to give because they are not supposed to advertise/promote unlocked iPhones for some reason.

To be honest I never used his service but personally I would not recommend him.
In many passed discussions I noticed him trying to trash talk other competitor unlockers in many imei unlock threads.
And when I posted a few times about great service I received from another competitor "swiftunlocks" he accused me of being a rep or reseller for him.
Just my 02.

If you look at the threads, I was joining the discussions regarding customer service that was given (or not given based on the replies).

I posted this in another unlocking thread after things started getting out of hand, so it's probably worth repeating here.

Hi Mod ... where can we go to see the different unlocking providers and the responses from people who use them. While I understand the mods of this site love to heavily-moderate, I think in a situation like this where unlocking is wanted, people want to be able to discuss it, and getting feedback from sellers who are actually doing unlocks, and their current "status" is welcome by everyone here, regardless of policy.

It's illegal to wear a hat backwards in Missouri, but that doesn't mean that the law is relevant, or should be enforced :)

We are not stopping anyone from discussing the different unlocks and giving general feedback, whether it be buyers or sellers. What we are asking is for sellers to not use the MacRumors forums as a vehicle for their businesses by processing sales and offering individual customer service in these threads. We don't "love to heavily-moderate" but we will step in when the forum rules are being broken.

The rules are clear and they are the same for all members. If a business wants to advertise on MacRumors they can make contact by following this link.

Okay, but we can agree that its ok for those who provide unlock services to communicate the current state of the "industry" to us, right? I really don't want to try and buy an unlock service if it's not possible, and if someone has inside information, I think we'd all love that info.

That wouldn't break the rules.

It's the type of posts stating "unlocks are back on at $35, PM me now to place your order" that have been attracting complaints and warranting action from the moderation team.

Yes, in other words you were trying to promote your unlocking service and trash talk competitors in order to gain customers. That in itself is questionable business practices.
Good business cares about their customer service and support and focuses on how to improve instead of going around badmouthing competitors. Hope you don't think that you will get good rep by continuing doing what you been doing. And then attacking customers of other unlockers?
Either way best of luck to you, just giving you some feedback that's all. Hope you take notice and turn it into positive from now on.

Ok, cool, thanks for the clarification.

I haven't heard from anyone who's successfully been unlocked in the last day or two. I'm wondering what the current state of unlock capability is.

Funny story, I ported a number out of AT&T and need the phone unlocked. So I called ATT, and of course they quoted the policy. I said, fine, I am paying an early term fee so please unlock. They said I have to pay it first. I said ok charge my card, here's my payment info. They said they can't charge my card because I haven't been billed yet. I said that makes no sense, you billed me the second I ported out. They said well no paper bill has been sent yet. So I said okay so due to your system limitation I can't get unlocked because you can't take a payment until you mail a bill? They said well yes sort of. So I said okay how do you know if a payment is for a specific term fee then? In other words, if I cancel 4 lines on one account, and am charged 4 early term fees, and I pay 1, how do you know which I'm paying? The question absolutely stumped them.

Perfect example of how awful AT&T is. After this experience I called back and cancelled 2 more lines, plus the iPad I had on the mobile share. I'm over ATT's anti-customer tactics. They had the nerve to say "Apple is the one to blame for locked phones because they make us sell them locked" ... and the same rep called me a liar when I told her T-Mo now includes global data roaming free in their plans now, and when I told her to go to T-Mobile.com she realized I was right she resorted to "well t-mobile sucks so there's no point in even talking about them" ... how low can ATT go?

I'm so disappointed. I'm happily paying early termination fees to get FAR FAR away from AT&T. It's gone from bad to downright anti-customer the way they operate their business.

But back on topic... if anyone knows of anyone or service where I can get this one 5s unlocked, please share. Need it done ASAP and don't care if it comes with a premium cost.

Thanks!

I cant blame you man.
AT&T reps drive me nuts sometimes too.
I heard there's people still doing the imei unlocks on ebay but its up to $50 each now.

eBay is just such a process when it comes to disputes, which in a situation like this I can only imagine it'll end up in a dispute given the shady nature of what people are doing with advertising then not delivering, and me having to beg for a refund.

I'd check their feedback and go from there.
But there is plenty of legit unlockers still up there from what I heard.
If the price is too good to be true then you know it will be a waste of time.

I've submitted to several, but it keeps ending the same way... I submit, and then a day later they refund the money and say nothing.

What's peculiar is that some of the auctions the sellers put in big bold letters "DO NOT BUY, ATT UNLOCK SERVICE DOWN" ... now to me that's shady as heck, but apparently eBay allows it?

I just want to answer for this part of the message to assure you that nicholasss did unlock an iphone 3G for me on Thursday. I really dont know if he will be able to help you on a 5S and more so when the contract isnt fullfiled. But he was able to deliver for me, and, (not wanting to get into a fuzz with anybldy) he was always very proactive in the communication part, and very good in treatment towards the customer.

I am happy with his services, I will go back if I ever need to, and I will recommend him in the future.

I know that im as noob as it gets, but you can chec a thread I starred las saturday asking for help with am almost bricked iphone 3G.

Best regards,
Ignacio

Sorry I meant the current 5s\5c

I heard for the past 2-3 days all unlockers had issues cause AT&T is trying to make it very hard and nearly close all loopholes to those 3rd party unlock suppliers.
I think unlockfusion/swiftunlocks just posted an AT&T iphone unlock service back online.

AT&T has tightened their security on unlocking and has also put a limit on the unlock requests per day.

Also, I do not recommend buying off eBay just yet, unless you want to wait and end up filing a dispute.

Swift is offering his service again and it can take up to three days. Others are offering "Instant-60 Minute Services" but those prices are ridiculous, even for a reseller there's no point in trying to sell it until customers adjust to the new prices. There are many sellers out there that offer these services at a cheap rate but they never get the job done.

Now for anyone who thinks I'm on here just to spam or talk down any competitor, I'm not. I was simply reassuring the fact that many are not happy with the customer support they have received. I don't bash competitors in hopes of gaining new customers. I could have bashed his service all I wanted without mentioning the fact that I'm just another "unlocker." I wonder if you would have even taken the time to mention me in a post if you didn't know that? Based on your posts, you have only mentioned me out of the many who have said the same thing.

That's my 2 cents for now. I'll add 2 more later.

Yeah, and they are charging $39.99

Feels like the first months when IMEI unlocks where sold.

Yes, I'm hoping they eventually go down.
Or if AT&T tightens up security even more they could either completely stop or get even more expensive. Ouch:eek:

I agree with you that there was many that were not happy and we're talking about someone who was doing thousands of unlocks per week. So obviously you wont be able to make everyone happy.
The reason I noticed you is because you were not his customer and but you are a biased competitor. Hey look, I provide better customer service, that guy sucks. Yes, you get the volume he does and then we will see how great your customer service will be:D
Off course I wouldn't have said anything if I didn't know you were his competition, its obvious why you were doing it.
Either way, I was just stating my opinion.
You want to be the great at what you do then put your best effort forward. Learn from others mistakes and continue to grow. As long as your service and prices are good people will come for that. Not because of you talking down your competition. Actions like that will have a negative effect that's all. Best of luck to you and hope you continue to provide your service.

Hello Nic, I'm sorry but is there a way to PM you? Or do you only Skype? Please check your IMs :)
