Hoping someone with experience as a unlock service provider can chime in. I was lazy and didn't get my 5s unlocked for international travel right after I got it, now I am discovering the loop hole has been closed and my usual eBay "unlockers" are gone.

I am not in a huge hurry, but will the availability of IMEI unlocks increase again soon? Just afraid I missed my opportunity on my new 5s.

Yeah, I agree, what a pain. Not sure why companies don't behave in a more customer supportive way, since inevitably the issue will come to a charge-back and they will always lose if they didn't deliver as promised.

Dead link, and you're advertising a sponsorship with swift unlocks, which is forbidden under the terms of this site.

So this has become my new peeve.... some super shady stuff going on here. I had submitted my unlock to Swift Unlocks when they stated 1-48 hours (that was 6 days ago) and nothing, so they emailed me:

"CURRENT STATUS: ORDERS are in process. we are not taking new orders due to overwhelming amount of pending orders. We will send newsletter when we take more orders. PENDING ORDERS WILL RETURN BY SUNDAY the 27th.

IF YOU NEED TO CANCEL by THURSDAY OCTOBER 24th 6PM PACIFIC USA TIME. SEND US ONE EMAIL to swiftunlocks@gmail.com with the imeis. WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CANCEL AFTER THURSDAY.

IF NEW ORDERS ARE MADE IT WILL BE CANCELLED DO NOT PLACE ANY MORE ORDERS. OUR SUPPLIER WILL CLEAR ALL ORDERS IN PROCESS AND WILL NOT TAKE NEW ORDERS. HE WILL CLEAR FROM FRIDAY to SUNDAY.

WE ARE SORRY about slow time frames but this is a GLOBAL ISSUE with all processors. PLEASE DO NOT ASK ON STATUS OR ETA. We will just copy and paste this email as this is the suppliers response on the ATT IPHONE orders"

----

Talk about terrible customer service. "If you order, we will cancel it! And if you ask for an update we will just copy and paste this email to you" ... what a joke.

----

As for *****, I had placed an order with them 2 weeks ago for 2-4 hour unlocking service for $59, to which they cancelled automatically without explanation. When I went back to their site, they were selling 1-2 day, and so I submitted, figuring they obviously expected to be able to honor 1-2 day if they just posted it moments before.... a week later I got....

"Sorry about the confusion. I realize it's been 5 days since you placed the 1-2 day service. Our prices have gone up, so you can either continue to wait, or you can pay $79 for the new 1-2 day service"

huh?!!?!?! So I paid for 1-2 day, and then waited 5 days, then they ask me to pay MORE to deliver a service I had paid for to begin with?!?! Absurd!!!!

I'm so over these shady sellers. I hope the government steps in and squashes this whole mess.

And yet, people still choose to buy from them.

My conversation with one of the unlock sellers:

Me: I ordered an unlock 5 days ago and it said "1-2 days" for $39... status?

Them: We don't have a status

Me: Can I get a refund? You didn't deliver the service you promised in the timeframe promised.

Them: No refunds

Me: I ordered a 1-2 day unlock and it's been 5 days.

Them: We have problems with our supplier. We can do it in 1-2 days for $90 or it might take up to 2 weeks for the service you purchased

Me: Huh? I paid for 1-2 days

Them: Now that's $90 if you want it in 1-2 days

Me: That makes no sense, why would I pay you for something you don't commit to?

Them: We only offer services we can guarantee.

Me: So you guaranteed that 5 days ago my phone would be unlocked in 1-2 days and now you're saying it could be 2 weeks, and you expect me to go along with this?

Them: We are very reputable and can unlock in 1-2 days for $90

Me: Clearly not because you said that a week ago for $39 you could so it in 1-2 days and couldn't.

Them: Well you're welcome to refund for store credit and use the $39 to apply for purchase of the $90 unlock

Me: Your logic baffles me. How about I just have you cancel the order, don't issue store credit, and we will let PayPal resolve the differences in the way we see the issue?

Them: How about I offer a courtesy of $85 for the 1-2 day service?

Me: Am I talking to a human? Do you seriously think the way you think? I want a refund, if you're not willing to do it, I'll go to paypal.

Them: As a gesture of good will, I will make exception and cancel your order and refund your PayPal account, but only this one time. You'll see the refund within 24 hours. Please come back again for all your unlock needs.

Me: Yeah I'll be back alright.... NEVER

Who's the seller?

"Please come back again..." lmao. I knew it had to be them. They used to be reliable for the most part, but boy, when you actually have an issue.....forget it.

It really irks me when places use language like they did. They clearly can't provide the service they said they could then I have to go chasing them to make good.

SwiftUnlocks, lol

I tried Unlockfusion/Swiftunlocks,

and they did not come through, although I did get my refund within 24 hours. It's terribly unfortunate that others after me have been misled by this company. WARNING PEOPLE DO NOT PURCHASE!

----------

I GOT MY AT&T IPHONE 5 FACTORY UNLOCKED LEGIT!

The steps:
1. Call up a friend who you know who has AT&T phone service.
2. Ask whens the last time they upgraded or if they have any lines off contract.
3. Invite them to lunch, ask for a favor.
4. Wait 24 hours and you're approved by AT&T themselves =).

Haha. That doesn't work anymore. The imei and phone numbers are linked in the system so if you provide a number that's out of contract and your iPhone that's on contract they'll know.

Bummer :(. I just asked my friend today who has AT&T to see if he could unlock my iPhone. I'm hoping for a miracle that some how AT&T will approve the unlock.

Also, for those looking unlocking service. Avoid using beijingiphonerepair.com and att-iphone-unlock.com. They refunded my money, they couldn't fulfill my unlock order.

uh....i'm not following..? It does work, my phone was unlocked 6 hours ago. It doesn't matter if the phone is on or off contract. It's the line that matters. Fact is that two year agreement contracts and that the Iphone 5 has only been out about a year would make no sense. It's the LINE that matters. It doesn't matter what the phone is. The person who requests an unlock (either you or someone else) needs to have at least one line on their cell phone plan in order for this to work. Better yet, at&t doesn't charge you to unlock the phone. Please read the requirements http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414532&cv=820#fbid=IxRJf7ACYCn

As long as you meet the requirements it's all cake.

Do you know to read?

General eligibility requirements for unlocking all AT&T wireless devices
You must meet the following requirements to unlock an AT&T wireless device:
The person requesting the unlock code must be one of the following:
A current AT&T customer
A former AT&T customer who can provide the phone number or account number for the account
Your device was designed for use on AT&T's network.
Your device must be paid for in full.
Your device wasn't reported lost or stolen.

In addition to the general eligibility requirements, you must meet the following requirements to unlock a phone or tablet you purchased with a Service Commitment (contract) if you're a postpaid customer:
Your account must be in good standing (i.e., it has no past due amount or unpaid balance owed AT&T).
You've satisfied all contract obligations, including any Service Commitment associated with the device to be unlocked, in one of the following ways:
Fulfillment of the Service Commitment by expiration of any contractual term
Payment of any applicable Early Termination Fee
Upgrading to a new device under AT&T standard or early upgrade policies

*********

AT&T unlock your device (IMEI), not your line. You can do whatever you want with your line, but your phone would still be locked if its in contract and/or wasn't paid in full (2 years contract = paid in full).

So my wife's line is off contract as of 2 days ago. She is using a iPhone 5 from my mom so the phone was still "not paid off" since it's only a yr old.

I submitted through the ATT site and they approved it even though I thought they would reject.

It's worth trying if u have a line that's off contract although I wonder if ATT really needs the SIM card to be inside the actual phone.

Wow, SwiftUnlocks just got shadier....

I had posted the message from our last interesting dealing where he\he promised a refund within 24 hours.... and now 3 days later it hasn't been refunded.

So I contact them at the address (unlock fusion) email...

me: It’s been 24 hours and my order still has not been refunded.

them: will be refunded by weekend

me: By the weekend? Today is friday. It’s fully within your power to refund right now. Takes less time than responding to an email. You stated on October 23, “Will be refunded within 24 hours” and it’s now been 48 hours. This has become unacceptable.

them: BILLING department is backed up. so you will get your refund as soon as they get to it. upto you if you want to be smart alec and have a response for everything

me: You don’t have a “billing department” …. and it’s definitely not in your best interest to take an attitude with me.

them: you know what why dont you deal with paypal and just wait 2 weeks for refund since your a know it all. honestly if you werent a hard ass it would have been done IMMEDIATELY

me: Will do. Actually I’ll deal with my credit card company and it’ll be done in 5 minutes. And the difference between dealing with my credit card company vs paypal is when you have a chargeback on your paypal account from a CC company, you’ll be limited to what you can do with your paypal account. It’s much more effective, especially since you clearly documented that you’d be unlocking the phone within 1-2 days, and didn’t, then you documented that you failed to provide the service you sold. Then you even went so far as to provide, in writing, that you’d be issuing a full refund within 24 hours, which you did not, and now you’re giving me BS excuses. Up you to if you want me to issue a chargeback through the credit card, or if you want to make it easy and issue the refund. The choice is yours. It’s not me being a hard ass, it’s you. YOU sold the product you didn’t have the ability to sell, YOU promised a refund which you failed to provide, and YOU are the one now being argumentative with me because you have what grounds to stand on? None. You have 1 hour from now to issue the refund, or I’ll call my credit card company. Since it’s a small amount they just issue it back to me and charge it back to PayPal which will then charge you back with no dispute process. Up to you, 1 hour.

them: do as you wish man.. mr know it all.. I deal with scums like you all the time.

me: Oh, by scums you mean paying customers who want something for money they pay? Yeah, we’re such terrible people.

them: Yea learn some patience and then you will get your wishes. I dont only have you as my only customer. The world DOES NOT revolve around your big headed ego. If i wanted, I can easily make sure you dont win the case and even blackst list the phone from EVER being used in the country. We can play dirty too. Upto you man how you want to do it.

me: Go for it. I’ve provided this email chain to Apple’s corporate security department, as well as AT&T’s fraud department. All the best to you.

What a great person ehh?

shenan1982,

This is unfortunate. It's too bad this happens to a lot more customers than just you. What's even worse, his usual policy is a credit to your account, not back to your PayPal account/wallet.

Yeah, and I'm guessing many customers don't realize the options they have, or rely solely on PayPal, which seems to be non-responsive at times when it comes to intangibles. ANYONE using PayPal should use a CREDIT CARD to fund the account, not a bank account or debit card draw, because a credit card will always issue a charge back and leave the seller with the responsibility for proving the item was delivered as advertised.

----------

Speak of the devil, moments after my last email, I received a notice that he had refunded my account (though the notice came in the response to the claim I opened with them).
