They are. I have a Verizon 5s on tmobile right now. All Verizon 5s are gsm unlocked from the get go. Even under contract.

Give iphoneimei.info a try. They unlocked my under contract iPhone 5 for $70 when all the others I tried failed (to be fair they all refunded my money).
It did take 10 business days, but it worked. One other charged $100 and took 25 days to tell me he couldn't do it.

Anyone know good unlocking for Tele2 Sweden?

To order an unlock you need to call us on telephonenumber 0772 25 25 25, if you dont have a swedish social security number you can always ask a friend or relative in sweden to call us and order the unlock for you."

Yes iPhone 5/5C/5S from Verizon are factory Unlocked as well as all their Android Smartphones sold in all of 2013 [can't speak for 2012], however the android phones because its android...Verizon is able to control and block out the "APN" settings which are required to be edited in order to get Internet working on domestic carriers, basically they making it difficult and thanks to Apple, Verizon can't do nothing to it

Stories like this have become a broken record on here unfortunately.
Sorry, only just seen this, T-Mobile (UK) do it for £21 if it's locked to them.
Otherwise Chronic is probably your best bet.
I entered my IMEI into imeiinfo and it said my contract AT&T 5S was unlocked. Another similar site said lock status "unknown". Then just for kicks I did an AT&T unlock request via their website. I got a reply that said "we can not complete your request for one of the following reasons...
"-We cannot find a valid current or former mobile number associated with this device.
-This device is not associated with a current or former AT&T account."
Both of those reasons are wrong. Maybe that's just the canned response for all denials? I am a valid current customer and the device is associated with my account.
Is it at all possible that my under contract phone, purchased directly from Apple, is somehow actually unlocked?

1) The websites are unreliable these days as the GSX Checks have been expensive so no site gives definite answer....most are just there to keep the customer in loop
2) Just because you bought your iPhone at Apple Store, doesn't make it automatically unlocked. If you upgraded on a contract, then your device will be locked 100%. It will only be Unlocked IF you paid full price at the Apple Store by telling them you want the "AT&T iPhone 5S and pay Full Price" then AT&T will automatically issue the unlock for it instantly as the device is paid for.
3) Its simpler to test a device in your hands by inserting a different carrier SIM than to waste time on websites and other sources to verify if your device is Locked/Unlocked.

This is the worst carrier which not offers unlock even after contract period.
