I might be in the minority here but I actually prefer it this way. In iOS 9 i always wanted the ability to reply to a message from the lockscreen without having to turn on message preview and without having to unlock the phone. I'm pretty sure it's a bug that will get patched in a later beta though

Not sure it's a bug. It's been that way since iOS 9 at the very least (as confirmed by a poster above) and I actually think quite possibly from iOS 7 or 8.

Not stupid at all. After I discovered this I remembered this could be happening and went back and checked. I used a fingernail press to activate Siri. But then I even used "Hey Siri" just to make sure. So in theory you could make a phone call or send a message to anyone you want, from a friend's or even a stranger's phone - without even touching it! The possibilities are endless. Imagine standing in line behind a lady with an iphone in her purse. Or someone's phone sitting at the bar or on a table in a restaurant. "Hey Siri", "message husband". "Tell him he's an a*shole and I want a divorce". :p
Hey Siri should not work if you've trained it to your voice.

And you actually had the ability to do so!

Not sure the training thing for Siri it was ever sold as that. More like "works better for your voice", not "doesn't work for anyone else". It'd sure be nice though.

Actually, I think it was designed exactly for that. Imagine a room full of iPhones and someone yells "Hey Siri!" Or cars full of Apple's related podcast listeners...

More than one of the podcasts I listen to avoid saying that phrase when talking about that feature for that very reason. Siri will respond to anyone.

The ability to answer from locked screen is defined in : Settings - Touch ID - Alow access when Locked - Messages ( On / Off )

It's even worse now that Rich Notifications show past conversation history when replying. Previously it only showed just the message you're replying to.

Definitely think authentication should be required by default but it isn't.

Or people shouldn't just lay their phones down unattended :p

P.S. What the heck did you do to get your account suspended?

If you read the thread testing only partly bears that out

Someone made a whole new thread about the Home button (when there were already a few) asking who the imbeciles were that came up with the piss poor change. I replied with extending his own pleasantries back to him and calling his thread piss poor asking why it needed a whole new thread. Got suspended for insulting him.

I tested this on an iOS 9 device. If I have the setting "Reply with message" on I could indeed swipe left on a message to reply from the lockscreen. With "Reply with message" off this wasn't possible and swiping left just allowed you to dismiss the notification.
On iOS 10, regardless of the "Reply with message" setting you can reply to messages from the lockscreen. It's only if message preview is turned off that you can't. So it seems as though "Reply with message" did affect the behaviour back in iOS 9.

Possibly stupid questions: Given that Siri is long press on home and you have Touch ID enabled are you sure that you're not just able to do at least some of these things with Siri because you're unlocked (but not home)? In iOS 10 at least, where there's a distinction to be made?

i can confirm that siri can send messages when the "hey siri" feature is used too...

After installing the latest beta, if you have "Reply with message" off then 3D touching on a message on the lock screen will bring up the message but no keyboard. The keyboard appears once you've unlocked the phone. I tested with "Reply with message" on and the keyboard appears when 3D touching a message on the lock screen.
So it seems it's been fixed!

The Reply with message on/off option is about declining a call with a quick reply by message, no?

I saw on 9to5mac (I think) that the rich message notification also shows ONLY the last message and not the entire conversation… That's too bad because I loved that feature, but nobody told if that comportement is back when authenticated (like, wake the phone, authenticate with Touch ID, stay on lockscreen, 3D Touch on a message)?

Thanks!

It used to be that originally, but it also appears to apply to quick replies that were introduced in iOS 8.

Hey Siri only recognizes there phone owners voice though so should still be secured in that sense.
