Isn't mac almost always first for the innovations that PCs bring their life from? who made the first REAL home computers? Who invented the mouse? Who invented the multi-touch that has a similar copy that will become the M$ table computer the size of a small car? I think Apple has been a company first in many things, but M$ got lucky. Now it's going to be Apple's time to shine.
P.S. M$ XP doesn't even come with software to play a DVD.

While Apple have historically brought these things to market earlier than Microsoft, they didnt actually invent a lot of this stuff.

The Mouse - Douglas Engelbart
Multitouch - in universities for years. Also peep Jeff Hans work
WIMP- basic Xerox PARC concepts that Apple massively improved on and made usable

Does anyone know it there is a 3G capable chip based on the dissasembly of the iPhone?

There are ARM crosscompilers out there, but the sticking point is always the Mac OS frameworks.

Useful things that I can think of off the bat are adding ringtones, unlocking for other vendors, although I personally thing thats useless. Settings stored on the PC/Mac. Who knows what else, game support?

The hacker community is getting very good at picking these things apart.

I have yet to see any specifics on this. Just people on forums saying it doesn't but when pressed, have nothing to back it up with. I have no idea where to go to find out with 100% certainty. Also, if not, I'd like to know if that can be changed. If one could put in an appropriate chip as a replacement.

This app came from the windows side because that is where the intial holes in the iphone were found. The wiki's link has not been posted because everytime it does the server gets hammered so hard that not even the devs can see it.

It took me all of 15 seconds to find the URL of their wiki.

It is definitely overloaded, so I won't post it here, but seriously, it is easy to find if you have ever used a search engine in your life.

Perhaps next time if they want to keep something hidden away, they would do some things like not allowing search engine indexing for a start.

Also naming it something not so obvious might help too. I also suspect they are not getting that much traffic, but they just have a really crappy host. Perhaps a better host would help too.

The answer to that is almost undoubtedly "no". You'd be a lot better off to wait for the European 3G version in a few months.

I'm sorry, but you are simply wrong. 12 is either midnight or noon. AM means after midnight (ante-meridiem), PM means after noon (post-meridiem.) I was merely correcting someone who corrected something incorrectly, so the pedantry isn't just mine. It's just that mine is accurate while the other is not.

But don't take my word for it ...

As far as I know, noon = 12PM, midnight = 12AM
as in half past noon is 12:30 PM and half past midnight is 12:30 AM

ZOMG iPhone directory access

This is not very powerful, you can do little more than poke around the file system within the sandbox that Apple hath wrought for us. Developer tools are a required install to make this work.

Go to http://www.tennis-schedule.com/iphoneinterface/iphoneinterface.zip

The Excutable is likely Intel-only as it was compiled on a Mac Pro.

Download the file.

Decompress the file.

Navigate to the directory in Terminal.

Run the command: make -f Makefile.osx

A unix executable of 72kb will appear. Double Click it to run it. It navigates like unix. We can't access the ringtone directories yet.

Alternatively, I created a DMG with all source files, and the executable http://www.tennis-schedule.com/iphoneinterface/iPhoneInterface.dmg

Thank you SPUY767
Really appreciated.

its not even that, im talking about developers. sure PC's overwhelm Macs in numbers, but there isnt one developer now a days (except apple), that make mac apps first, and then ports them to pc. its either a mac exclusive, or its ported by windows (or sometimes linux).

I think you're right. Doesn't seem to be working on PPC. :(

has there been any update on whether or not there will be some new information tonight at midnight? I am interested to see if we can finally get some custom ringtones on our phones. Also im not sure who I should PM, but I would like to know how I can help donate to the cause, I have great respect for the abilities of these people...it simply amazes me how they can reverse engineer these things. Thanks in advance for the info...

No, there hasn't. Even if there were, the announcement would most likely only be useful to people who already understand everything that's been done. An end-user software package that you can just point and click and do things like change your ringtones is still weeks away.
