Local stores are showing pickup date of base model for May 5. Not updated to any new inventory stock for pickup today. Seems that initial production may have finally sold through though I wouldn't be shocked to see some stores get stock here and there still.

Meanwhile while Costco sold out of the Ultra almost immediately (and had it for $200 off), they did have the base Max up until just the other day showing pickup 2-3 days out from order. They are now however, out of stock on both models and their deal on the Max was not as good, not even relatively (as it was only $50 off - would have like to see $100 off since the 2x expensive Ultra was $200 off).
Costco doesn’t accept Mastercard for some reason.
EDIT: Found out Costco DOES take Mastercard online, but not in store.

They used to be Amex only, either the Costco Amex or any Amex. Then they partnered with Citibank for a Visa card which was really nice b/c you can use the Citi Visa or any other Visa but sadly no Mastercard or Amex anymore.

That's ridiculous, do they accept bitcoin....?

Sold my 2018 Touch Bar (which I didn't mind) MacBook Pro this weekend and ordered a Max w 1TB drive. 6-7 week wait. Luckily I have my iPad and a Mac Mini at home so I didn't succumb to the "I need it now" urge to buy a 512GB base model from a store.

The 6-7 weeks gives me time to do some data org/purge and other general office cleanup as well as other home projects before spending time setting up a new machine but I'm sure that will still feel like a really slow clock.

I'm curious about why Ultra availability is running so far behind Max availability, at least in the U.S.

Apple stores where I am (New York) have the base Max readily available for in-store purchase and pickup. If you order one online, delivery (it's April 12 today) is April 20-27.

None of the local stores has had a base Ultra for about 10 days (indeed, none of the 120 stores in 10 cities that I checked this afternoon has one in stock), and delivery if you order online is June 2-16.

I wonder if it‘s a function of the demand for the Ultra relative to the Max (being significantly less than, possibly?) And perhaps it’s something to do with whatever technical challenges there are with pairing Max SoCs to make the Ultras. Since there just isn’t another machine that uses the Ultra to compare with. I suppose there’s also the different heat sink in the Ultra, who knows ?

(I was comparing wait times for an M1 Max MacBook Pro with the Mac Studio. Basically any MBP configuration with an M1 Max has an estimated date of May 31, it doesn’t vary with the amount of RAM you choose like it does with the Studio. Among other variables I suppose certain parts are prioritized still for the more popular Macs.)

B&H has the base Max in stock, I believe for the first time.

Note that many Apple stores also have the base Max in stock and that B&H does not accept returns of computers if the box has been opened. Computers are an exception to B&H's generally good returns policy.

I guess the other likely contributor: Lockdowns in China, no? Which started at the end of March. :(

Wow, I had placed a pre-order prior to launch day at B&H (no tax credit card) and never showed up so I cancelled my order and picked up the Studio Max at the Apple Store on launch day.

Can't believe it took B&H this long!

B&H sent a notice that the base Max was now in stock about 2 PM New York time yesterday. It's still in stock this morning, which suggests that they have a fair number of them. I hadn't considered that B&H's no-tax credit card is an incentive to buy from them, and of course Apple's own warranty is in effect.

Adorama also has the base Max in stock. Unlike B&H, it doesn't have any additional configurations. Like B&H, it excludes computers from its 30 day return policy. Adorama's credit card gives 5% off.

Note that B&H and Adorama are closed for Passover from tomorrow, April 15, until Sunday, April 24, with limited online ordering during that period.

Apple stores have a good supply of base Maxes, but there are very few base Ultras in stock. The 12 NY City stores haven't had one for two weeks, and the current delivery window is June 8-22. There are a few Ultras around though, for example at this store in Minneapolis-Saint Paul:

This is probably why NO UK Apple Stores have any.......?
Never seen any on any resellers either.

FYI I am only a 'tourist' in this thread.
It's interesting to keep an eye on, especially with new lockdowns/shutdowns today.....?

In retrospect, I regret that I specified US stores when I started this thread. There was no need to limit it, and it's interesting to know what's happening in other countries. I'm glad that some people from outside the U.S. have posted anyway.

Just for reference, trying to find the base model in Italy, no store has one in stock, and availability date is May 19th for all the Stores.
Premium Resellers never saw a single Mac Studio at all, not even one for display.
So yes, USA first, that’s clear.
The only Italian Mac Studio owners are those who preordered directly from Apple in the first minutes.

I haven't checked the rest of the U.S. lately, but none of the 12 New York City Apple stores has had a base Ultra in stock for about three weeks. The current delivery window for online orders is June 14-28. On the other hand, most of the Apple stores have the base Max available for pickup. Costco, B&H and Adorama have it in stock too. B&H even has two Max configurations in addition to base (post #313).

B&H now has the Studio Max 32GB Memory/32 Core GPU/8TB SSD in stock as well as the 4TB and 2TB noted in post #313. Configurations that are in stock show "Add to Cart" rather than "Preorder".

I'd be doing a pickup tomorrow, rather than waiting until the end of June, if B&H had the 2TB with 64GB of memory :)

The Preorders/Orders/Delivery thread has started to show that a fair number of people are receiving built to order Mac Studios about a month before the start of their original delivery window. If that happens for the Max in my signature, it would mean delivery at the end of May rather than the end of June. Covid measures in China are one wildcard in this. Last Thursday, measures were eased somewhat in Hong Kong, from which Mac Studios are flown to Anchorage, but in the last few days they've been tightened in Shanghai, where Foxconn's main factory is.

Meanwhile, U.S. Apple stores have base Maxes readily available, but base Utras have slowed to a trickle. The 12 New York City stores haven't had an Ultra in stock for three weeks. Yesterday, on checking 120 stores in the vicinity of 10 U.S. cities in various parts of the country, none of the stores had an Ultra available for pickup. The current online order delivery window for a base Ultra is June 16 - June 30 (7 to 9 weeks from now).
