So does this mean i can update my unlocked update without bricking it, and then ulock it again?

Because that would be very cool and would make me happy and i would once again be eternally greatful to the dev team.

Back to 1.0.2 for me until this is fixed :\ I didnt unlock my phone just to run SSH!!!

I agree. Actually I'm either going to wait for 1.1.2 or for Nullriver to get Apptapp installer to run on 1.1.1. I cant believe that it would take them much longer now.

You CAN install AppTapp (Installer.app) with iNdependence.

The trick is to extract the Installer.app from the AppTapp installation file and manually transfer it to the App folder on the iPhone.

Just use iNdependence to install SSH on the iPhone and then SFTP the app over.
I used Cyberduck for my transfer. :)

You are the best man!!! I wonder why haven't I think of this...

I'll try it ASAP.

Already did that, doesnt work. It doesnt show up on the home screen making it useless.

sure:

before

make sure you have 1.02 (28) version downloaded

i restored the iphone using itunes (alt click restore) to put the stock image on,

then i used ifuntastic to jailbreak as the new version of indepdence 1.2.2 did not work straight out of the box.

once jailbroke - back to ID1.2.2 and activated/SSH and reset the Root password to alpine.
then over to firmware tab and DFU mode follow steps ect ...
then pre 1.1.1 ( this failed first time , so did again and it worked.
then closed ID1.2.2 and run iTunes , updated to 1.1.1 firmware ( itunes did not do it first time so had to do the upgrade again)

once itunes had finished ID1.2.2. again to do the Post 1.1.1 upgrade stuff and thats it

i had lots of problems with the jailbreak at the start so used ifuntastic 4.0

hope this helps

I got my new Iphone 1.1.1 with latest firmware finally back to 1.0.2 But now when I procced to jailbreak via Independance it want me to chose a file to to after clicking on the jailbreak button, did this happen to you?
I will try your Ifuntastic to jailbreak it once I get home.
I bought the iphonesimfree the lateset one but it never worked it kept stalling on Install application. Using the new independance has gotten me this far, thanks everyoone for there effprts ther are greatly appreciated.

Is anyone else completely unineterested in any kind of iPhone hacks until app tap can once again just as easily be installed with no other hacking?

I know thats how I feel.

for sure, but I have a feeling it may not be quite as simple this time, as apple has actually put some time into stopping or at least slowing down hackers. nevertheless, i am interested in this thread and may give this a try if it proves to be safe

I don't think anything has proven unsafe- but correct me if I'm wrong- I don't think there is anything to lose other than time. Downgrading to 1.02 from 1.1.1 should always be possible. Restoring to an "Apple fresh" 1.1.1 should always be possible.

Though I do wonder if Apple will do something in the future to block downgrades somehow, or cause iTunes to specifically detect all changes to the filesystem and reverse them, etc.

My iphone is currently unlocked, (I used iphonesimfree.com) its running on t-mobile and activated/jailbroke (I used iNdependence) and I'm still running firmware 1.0.2.

Do I upgrade to 1.1.1 (this would break any activation/jailbreak i currently have) and then (using iNdependence) downgrade to 1.0.2 and upgrade again to 1.1.1? Then rejailbreak/activate?

Help please!

Or can i just skip the downgrade part of the process?
Will the fact that my iphone is already activated/Jailbroken be a problem?
Should I restore?

by unsafe, I meant that apple could brick both unlocked iphones and those w/ apptapp etc. Is there really an assurance that I could safely downgrade to 1.1.1???

I guess you never can be 100% safe . . .

I updated firmware, activated the phone successfully and everything. Got AppTapp into the applications folder but I'm a wreck from then on. I know it's something so simple too! Any help?

EDIT: When I try to ssh into my phone using terminal it wont let me enter anything when it asks for the password.

Okay I went to the link on the phone and installed that source to the Installer but when I go to the System section Trip1PogoStick isn't showing up.

EDIT: Alright, I restarted the phone once I installed that source and used Terminal to ssh to the phone again and it showed up after I did that. Finally! I knew it was something simple. I was just trying to be to technical about it. The jailbrake didn't activate YouTube though. I just used a YouTube terminal app I downloaded a while back to activate it.

EDIT: After I fully updated the firmware and activated it and got AppTapp on my phone, I downloaded the iPod3 1.1.1 Tweak and all my music is gone now. The space is still being taken up, it's just not showing in the iPod. And the phone isn't being recognized by iTunes anymore.

You have to still do the Post 1.1.1 Update thing! It says right in the instructions! It's in the Firmware tab, so make sure to install SSH first.

I did all of that. After I recovered all of my space and got AppTapp on the phone I installed iPod3 under the 1.1.1 tweaks and all the music was gone. Just before I downloaded iPod3 all the music was there though. I can't get iTunes to recognize the phone anymore either. Everything else is still there though.

I got a 1.1.1 iPhone in the post.

Managed to unlock and jailbreak it (iPhonesimfree for unlock).

It's amazing - I am never going back.

Hang on guys, 1.1.1 will be easier - I had some help from a terminal guru!

I did it

I just got a new iPhone with 1.1.1 and I got it to work.

Follow the instructions very carefully. I only had one little snag, where the final post-upgrade 1.1.1 part wouldn't finish correctly. It would ask for my IP address and password, which I entered correctly twice, and it would fail. So I went to the SSH tab, clicked on change password, put in "root" for account name and the new password, and then made another attempt at the post-upgrade 1.1.1 part. That did the trick.

I'm loving it. I've had a snafu with Verizon over terminating my contract with them (I thought my contract ended when they'd let me get a new phone, but it's not for another two months). I'm going to sign up with AT&T, but I didn't want to look at a brick for the next two months either. I just hope this hack is reversible (which I believe it is, or should be).

Anybody get this to Activate a NON iPhone AT&T SIM?
i.e your old AT&T contract SIM and not the SIM that came with the iPhone.

I know all 1.02 'Activations' worked fine with ANY AT&T/Cingular SIM, but apparently iNdependence 1.22 activated iPhones on 1.1.1 do NOT work?

Can anyone confirm/deny this?

I had no problem with both my AT&T SIM as well as one from UMC (Ukraine)... I had previously used the long way to jailbreak & activate under 1.1.1 and every time I switched SIM cards, it asked to activate again. Using iNdependence 1.2.2, it seems like the one activation sticks because I'm able to switch between SIM cards without having to reactivate! Yay!

Oct. 16/07 - Just released version 1.2.3. This version fixes a number of bugs in version 1.2.2, makes 1.1.1 activation a bit easier, and also adds the ability to have 3rd party applications show up in SpringBoard when using the 1.1.1 phone firmware. If you have previously used iNdependence version 1.2.2 to jailbreak/activate a 1.1.1 phone, and want to use 3rd party applications, use the included SpringBoardPatcher application.

Works, im up and running.. I wish I could find out how to uninstall DOCK though.. It wont uninstall via app installer :(

"Note that if your phone was previously jailbroken, activating it this way will return it to jail again."
dose this mean that you could upgrade to the standard 1.1.1 and not get bricked or it will just not let you install apps.??????
Mine is hacked using the installer.

To everyone that has questions regarding on what to do if their phone is an Iphone that has NOT been upgraded to Firmware version 1.11 (i.e. you have a "Jailbreaked" iPhone running Firmware version 1.02 or before, are still running AppInstaller, etc.).

Even though you have SSH running on your iPhone via AppInstaller, you STILL need to use the button in the SSH tab in iNdependence called "Install SSH/SFTP/SCP." Once you do this, you can then proceed with the iNdependence process. This way you don't need to go and update to 1.11 just to go back to 1.02.

I have read some people's confusion on this matter (as I had it myself). But once you do this, just follow the rest of the instructions and you should be fine.
