Not the most tech savvy, so just wanted to make sure I'm understanding what I'm reading.

If I'm using Plex to stream 4k movies to my 4K ATV, I can link my Plex with infuse, so that it hardware decodes 4K content? If so, I'd love that - streaming 4k movies through plex really pushes my CPU temps very high (i7 7700K), and I would love a hardware decoding solution and would buy infuse Pro in a heartbeat.

Yes, you actually have a few options. You can have Infuse stream from Plex via DLNA, or point Infuse at your Mac/PC/NAS and have it stream the videos directly without having to go through Plex at all. Either way, Infuse will be able to use the Apple TV's built-in HW decoding, which will remove the need for any transcoding whatsoever.

A bit more info on how to get started streaming from other devices can be found here.

We're also working to add deeper integration with Plex for an upcoming coming in early 2018, so you may want to keep an eye out for that as well. ;)

Thinking about uploading my movie and TV collection to Dropbox and then streaming it via Infuse Pro on my ATV 4. Would love to hear from anyone who has tried this. Any insight as to the best way to organize my media in Dropbox would be appreciated too.

Others may be able to chime in with real world experiences using Dropbox. It's working great for us here. :)

Hi James. Thanks so much. I think it's really a good sign that you are so active in both your company forums and on here. It reflects very well about your product and makes me want to try Infuse that much more. :)

I'm a bit confused about my choice between subscription versus one-time purchase and the best way to push forward. I know I can purchase the app on my Apple TV but if I want to go the subscription route is that a different method of purchase? Also do I need to also download the app on my iPhone or iPad in order to establish permission to link my Dropbox account? If I understand correctly this can't be done on the ATV app. Thanks.

Happy to help. :)

Pro is available via 2 ways, as an In-App Purchase or standalone paid app. Which you choose is mainly a personal preference, and a bit more info on the differences can be found here. https://firecore.com/forum/topic/13168

With regard to Dropbox, you are correct. You would first set up the Dropbox connection on iOS. Once this is done, the saved connection will sync over to Apple TV via iCloud and be available for streaming there as well. Some general info on iCloud and Trakt syncing in Infuse can be found here. https://support.firecore.com/hc/en-us/articles/115000070773-iCloud-Trakt-Syncing

Hi James.

Can you specify what cloud services exactly Infuse Pro supports beyond Google Drive, Dropbox, and OneDrive, if any? Thanks.

Currently Infuse includes direct integrations with Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive. We also have plans to support a few additional services in future updates, including OneDrive for Business and Box.

Other cloud services can be accessed indirectly via the Documents option in Infuse. Essentially, Infuse would connect to these services through the app which allows you to import files on iOS (iCloud, DS file, etc...).

Also, a number of other cloud services offer direct streaming access via WebDAV, which is also supported in Infuse.

James thank you. I'm going to stick with Dropbox in that case.

I'm in the process of uploading my entire collection to the cloud. I will let you know if I have any questions moving forward. Thank you again for your help.

Hi James. I'm trying to figure out how to upload my current 1.6 TB collection to the cloud. I currently have a 1 TB Dropbox plan but upgrading to a 2 TB plan is VERY expensive. $450 a year to be exact. :(

Can I use a second Dropbox account for Infuse? If not, I would have to use a Google Drive 1 TB account. In that scenario I would be using both a Dropbox and Google Drive account. Is that okay? Please let me know on both fronts. A second Dropbox plan is a little cheaper but if not possible I'd go the Google Drive route. Also if I can add a second cloud account will it alter my library view or will everything be found in one place once uploaded? Thank you very much.

Yes, you *should* be able to use a second Dropbox account, or a separate Google Drive account.

Infuse is able to group files from multiple shares into a single library view, so all your files would appear as if they are all stored in one location.

I have Family Videos and photos on OneDrive, I know I can get the videos working with Infuse but can I see the photos? Is photos on cloud feature in works?

The only thing worrying me about archiving in the cloud, is how fast the services are able to download your content. Do you get decent speeds from Dropbox etc? Or does Infuse buffer enough to make watching raw blu-ray rips, for example, a realistic proposition?

Infuse is designed for video files only right now, but support for other file types may be something we consider adding at some point in the future.

This will depend on your internet speed.

You'll probably need at least 100mbps connection for raw 1080p Blu-rays, and you'd need to double that for 4K Blu-ray. Remuxed files would need quite a bit less, and would vary a bit depending on the actual file specs.

Sorry I did actually mean remuxed files. I tend to rip my collection using makemkv and remove all extras and unneeded audio tracks etc, so they do end up a lot smaller. I have a 67Mb connection here, so it would be touch and go by my own calculations. Given the price of local storage it doesn't seem worth the cost and effort though.

Holy cow. At that price why wouldn't you buy a synology and some storage, save some money, and call it a day? No more dropbox fees and you control everything, locally.

Turns out I just ended up paying $100 more for a second Dropbox account. Collection will be hosted in two 1 TB Dropbox accounts. Also my current collection ended up being closer to 1 TB.

and you can Sickrage on the Synology to look after (i.e. aut update, download subtitles ) all and any of your tv series, couchpotato for movies and on and on...

SMB is the most versatile, as it's easy to set up and is supported by most devices.

NFS is faster, but the set up can be a bit more fiddly.

Great. Other than setup are there any other implications ? Looking to change from SMB to NFS on my Synology NAS.

One thing to keep in mind switching share types means removing the old share and creating a new one.

This means Infuse will need to refetch info for your videos, and any manual corrections will need to be redone.

Finally got hold of an ATV 4k here in Bangkok....

Did try MrMC for a bit... but, meh.
I'm happy to turn off my Plex server on my Synology and move on to Infuse.

Works great - shared over NFS, and plays everything just lovely...

Most importantly, it plays all formats no issues... thanks! (And a bit of fiddling gets a nice looking layout too)

I just bought a STR-DN1080 to pair with the Apple TV 4k.
(Sorry if this has been asked 100 times).
Does inFuse support Dolby Atmos or Dolby True HD passthrough?

In my quick test, it doesn't seem to.
