There seem to be a lot of complaints about having to re-buy previously bought content, subscriptions and other money-grubbing tactics by the developers, when there are some very good open source alternatives such as VLC.

Sorry for the confusion.

The in-app purchase/subscription options available for Infuse Pro (starting with Infuse 5 which was released in Nov 2016) will include automatic updates for all future releases.

In the past, Infuse Pro was also available as a standalone paid app (EG Infuse Pro 5, Infuse Pro 6) as for many years Apple did not support Family Sharing of in-app purchases or subscriptions. We had built a way to share these in-app purchase with family members using a Trakt account, but some still preferred Apple's native family sharing via a paid app. Those who opted for this standalone paid app would receive free updates until the next major release.

Thankfully, Apple finally introduced support for family sharing of in-app purchases and subscriptions back in January 2021, and the Infuse 7 app released in May 2021 was released as a single free app w/ optional Pro upgrades. This means, anyone who downloads Infuse 7 will continue to receive automatic updates for all future releases, including major releases like v8, v9, v1002, etc... Also, those upgrading from the older standalone paid apps are able to receive a free year of Infuse Pro when installing Infuse 7.

Infuse 7.3.7 now available! ?

New ultra-optimized streaming cache, improvements for Google Drive, playback fixes, and more!

The new caching method is more resilient to slowdowns on Apple devices (somewhat rare, but they happen), networks which have speeds that fluctuate, cloud services (like Google Drive), plus improvements for folder based-videos. A little something for everyone.

It’s enabled by default, but you’ll want to ensure the ‘Streaming Cache’ option in Infuse > Settings > Playback is set to ‘Auto’.

I have infuse on two different ATVs. One one, there's a star to rate/favorite a video. On the other, there isn't. The only difference between the two set ups, is the first one is set to fetch meta data. Is this the reason it has the option to favorite a video? Or am i missing a setting somewhere?

Currently, ratings can only be added for movies/episodes which are matched to titles from TMDB.

If these are things like home videos, you can use NFO/XML files to add metadata and ratings. More info in this guide.

Is there any possibility a rating system or favorites gets added for non-TMDB video content? (besides using NFO/XML files).
Nothing planned at this time, but you might consider posting something in the suggestions area of our forum to see if there are others who would appreciate having this.

I apologize in advance if this has been mentioned before, but I did search here and on the developers site, and returned no hits.

I am surprised to find that Infuse plays my DNxHD files from a Windows video processing program.

No other player app that I have tried can play these files including VLC.

This is a very nice feature for me.

Thanks!!!

VLC is my goto anywhere except the AppleTV, there's a bug that was introduced like 2 years ago now where it doesnt properly save SMB/CIFS passwords on an AppleTV, I got tired of re-entering my password to use my server every time

Infuse 7.4 has arrived and includes a host of great improvements.

One of the key focus areas for this release is organization and browsing functionality in the Library. This includes a number of great quality-of-life improvements that make using Infuse easier and more enjoyable. Read on for more info on what's new.

Customizable collections

Infuse has long included automatic grouping of sequels into 'Collections' based on info provided by TMDB. Now, in addition to using the automatic grouping, you can create your own collections for even more flexibility. This allows you to group a set of similar movies or TV shows (or a combination of the two). For example, you could create a custom collection to group Marvel Universe titles (Iron Man, Avengers, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., etc...), create one for Looney Tunes shorts, or group your latest spring break videos. It's your world, so the possibilities are endless!

Smarter browsing for TV shows

TV show browsing is now much improved and seasons are now intuitively grouped together on a single series page. Entering a series page will automatically queue up the next episode to watch, and you can then navigate to other seasons and episodes as you wish.

Logos for movies and shows

The details page gets a minor facelift with the addition of movie and TV show logos from TMDB. These will appear on the details page while browsing, to provide a more engaging design for each title's page.

Multi-select for bulk tasks

Managing files is now easier with the addition of multi-select for many common tasks, including adding files to a playlist or collection, downloads (iOS/macOS), and deletions.

Don't let pesky credits get in the way of your multi-season binge. When you get near the end of an episode, a subtle Next Episode button will appear alongside the playback controls. Hitting this will mark the currently playing item as fully watched and whoosh you straight to the next episode.

Expanded TV show lists

The list of recently added shows gets a big limit increase. This list will now display the latest 30 series, which could include hundreds or even thousands of individual episodes.

Ready for Jellyfin 10.8

We've tuned things up to work with Jellyfin's hot new 10.8 release. After installing the new Jellyfin update be sure to grab the latest version of InfuseSync (currently 1.4.2) on your Jellyfin server for the best overall experience.

Other minor improvements and fixes

Many other small improvements and fixes are part of this release, so be sure to check out the full list of what's new.

Thanks!

We always love hearing your comments, feedback, and suggestions — so please feel free to post a message in our community forum, @ us on Twitter, or drop us a note anytime.

Enjoy! 🙂

How is a custom collection different from a playlist? Also why can’t we just have in app tagging for non IMDB content? Having to manually edit IFO files with the Finder and a text editor is cumbersome to say the least. Tags should be connected to the media. A huge problem with playlists is that they rely on hardcoded file paths. Move the file and it breaks the playlist.

Collections are useful as they can appear in sections like All Movies while browsing. Infuse has used TMDB Collections for quite some time to group sequels (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3) but many people wanted more flexibility here to add their own groupings, which could include TV shows. Like the example pic posted above, you can create a Superman collection that includes not only movies, but a series like Smallville as well.

Additionally, you can add an entire series or season to a Collection, whereas a Playlist is more about individual files.
Do playlists sync across devices? Collections seem to.
Yes, both Playlists and Collections can be synced via iCloud.

The way TV seasons are handled since 7.4 is a vast improvement. :D

One feature I'd really like to have: let us change the sort order directly in the movies/TV shows lists (without having to go to the settings). Currently it's a pain to e.g. find recently added movies that fell off the "recently added" list.

It's on the list of things to look into for a future update. :)
