I got an Apple TV 4 as a gift, and installed Infuse Pro (from a previous purchase from my iPhone).

It works awesome to play HEVC (720p only) videos from my MacMini. It takes no CPU cycles (unlike Plex, which I assume transcodes, and spikes CPU to 400% while watching) and looks fantastic.

Very very minor issues such as no displaying show artwork for a folder with more than 1 season nested (the season artwork is correct) - certainly nothing to complain about.

Now we can just use the Apple TV as the only interface for Netflix, Infuse, and hopefully soon Amazon Video. Looking forward to updates to make it even better - thanks!

Is there any point to using Infuse if I already have a huge iTunes library of converted movies with metadata and artwork etc? The lack of search, categorisation etc means it's difficult to navigate with this many files.

Give Plex a shot, you'll wonder why it took you so long to try it out.

Plex only transcodes when the AppleTV can't otherwise play the video. So if Plex is transcoding, Infuse wouldn't be able to play it (both play videos using the built-in tvOS video player).

Both Infuse and Plex are great apps, and I'm new to both on the ATV4, but I'm doing all my watching in Plex, because the I really like the Netflix-like interface it provides for my movies.

I've got Infuse working and locked to one folder, which is great. so impressed I upgraded to PRO because i think the guys deserve the couple bucks. but once i upgraded, every file i tried watching stop playing every couple minutes saying some error popped up. might have to reload and redo tonight and see if theres a better fix.

I may be mistaken, but from what I've read in other forums/blogs Infuse DOES NOT use the built-in tvOS video player.
Correct - Infuse does not use the built-in player.

Hmm, perhaps removing and re-installing the app might help? The upcoming 4.0.2 update also includes a number of improvements.

Well I for one absolutely love Infuse Pro - it's single handedly justified the purchase of my Apple TV as far as I'm concerned.

If I could ask for just one feature to be added, though, it would be the ability to specify whether played movies in a particular shortcut folder are displayed in the cover flow image on the front page of the Apple TV. I'd like to be able to be able to choose to exclude or include the titles within a particular 'favourite' from being added to the front page cover image. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to be selective about the sort of videos that are displayed on the Apple TV cover <cough>

Oh and how about the option to add a simple password (a 4-digit pass code perhaps?) to favourites? That would allow certain favourite folders to be locked out.

Oh and another feature idea - if a folder contains a video for which Infuse Pro cannot find a cover image, how about giving us the option of selecting a thumbnail frame from within the video? ie. scroll to a position within the video and use the point where you stopped as the thumbnail? Just a thought...

I used Plex extensively on my my Mac Mini and now ATV4. unfortunately, I've switched from h.264 to h.265 (HEVC) codec for my videos and Plex does not decode them efficiently. CPU usage spikes to 400-500% (my Mac Mini has 8 cores, so up to 800% total...I think that's how it works), where Infuse & Kodi do not use nearly as many resources.

I don't know why Plex does this, and will wait for a SW update to see if they change the decoding algorithm.

Infuse has a beautiful ATV interface (IMHO) so I'm happy to use it instead. It also scrapes the metadata really well too, no issues with that at all either.

With over 1,000 movies I don't understand how infuse wants us to store everything in 1 folder instead of subfolders
I'm a little bit confused. I have a share set up that contains a number of sub folders - Infuse lets me navigate into these folders with ease? Am I missing something?

What kind of Mac mini do you have that has 8 cores ? I think you mean 4 cores with HT.
I think it's more cpu intensive transcoding in real time what Plex does vs just playback.

Having an option to make smaller thumbnails would be nice.. It takes me forever to scroll through my collection.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Will the new update come with sub folder reading movies?
Infuse will recognize single-video folders as playable items in the current version. Are you having trouble with this?

The metadata and UI is gorgeous, but I really hope the next update fixes the issue regarding the choppiness of high bitrate video.
Yes, a number of performance improvements are coming in 4.0.2.

A trimmed down list view option is planned for a future update. Stay tuned.

A search would also be handy.... :)

What would have less CPU strain on a Mac mini? Running two incidences of Plex or two incidences of Infuse simultaneously?

Do you need maybe some beta testers? :)
Not at the moment...but we may open up another public beta round in the future. ;)

Infuse does all decoding on the Apple TV, and will put virtually zero load on the source device. ;)

Can I just say that you guys at FireCore are doing a great job. Infuse is fantastic and your interaction with the community regarding updates is first class and much appreciated, nice work.

Thanks!

There's lots more goodness still to come. ;)

Overall great app. But imo i think your subtitle readability is too low. Your border settings seems to make the letters thinner. Maybe you could add some style options in a future version with e.g. a small, dark and translucent background box around the whole subtitle.

We're working on a handful of improvements in this area for an upcoming version. Stay tuned. ;)
