How do I go about building the InterWeb app? I'm not versed in Macs really at all. Don't have a newer one myself.

You need to install autoconf 2.13, yasm, and a modern compiler such as Clang 11 all from MacPorts and then run ./mach build in the source directory after renaming one of the sample mozconfigs to .mozconfig.

Can I ask why you want to build the browser from source? There are releases available on GitHub, the webpage, and Macintosh Garden.

When just using the release from Github, I get a "this app is not for this Mac" message. I thought maybe I could fiddle with some settings or something. I'm on an iMac4,1 (Mac-F42786C8) running 1.6.8.

I'm trying to just use the latest release 10.6 64-bit version. Thanks for the quick reply.

The iMac4,1 has a 32-bit Core Duo processor, you need to use the 32-bit version.

Yep, you're exactly right. For some reason I was sure it was 64-bit. Thanks.

Would you have any ideas on why I can't connect to any websites? I was able to download Software Updates and ports via MacPorts just fine, but no websites can be found. Maybe a DNS issue? I'm trying with the firewall off and no proxies or anything. Network Diagnostics finds no issue.

Edit: Nevermind! I turned off some privacy settings as well as disconnecting and reconnecting and it seems to work now! Thanks for the help.

Works super well, and I'd recommend InterWeb as a Snow Leopard user's RSS reader, too. NetNewsWire and Vienna both open, but don't work super well from my experience trying them out. I'm sure I could try the working Thunderbird versions, but InterWeb works well enough for me. Does anyone know of an older Firefox or Pale Moon extension for RSS reading from the Snow Leopard era?

You could try looking through https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive - I'm sure theres something that works
Thanks for that. Seems like Simple RSS Reader and microRSS are my best bets. Simple RSS Reader goes with the Live Bookmarks feature which is really nice, but the design of the reader is unpleasant in my opinion. microRSS is a bit less convenient to add feeds to but it much nicer to look at and use. Anyone let me know if you find a better alternative. Maybe I will do Thunderbird after all, too.

Is there a translation extension that works with InterWeb? I often visit Japanese websites and use translation extensions with Firefox on my newer Macs.

Thanks!

😀

Hello everyone, I'm pleased to announce the next release of InterWeb!

Plenty of new features and improved web compatibility support.

Download here: https://github.com/Jazzzny/interweb55-snowleopard/releases/tag/2024-12-14

If you run into any issues, please post them here and I'll try to resolve them.

Note: This release changes the Application Support directory where user data is stored, you may need to rename Application Support/Basilisk to Application Support/InterWeb.

As always, posted from Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Kudos to yourself & Wicknix for compiling this. Just been putting it through it's paces on a newly gifted, late 2009 21.5" iMac with 4Gb memory. Very impressed, just amazing!:)
Now if you could pls advise how to download an adblocker as effective as uBlockOrigin or something equivalent, that will make my year (2025) as far as Snow Leopard is concerned.

Hello everyone,
I'm announcing the release of theme for InterWeb called "Photonic Mac", which is a modified version of Lootyhoof's Photonic theme that replicates the Firefox 57-88 UI.

I've made some adjustments to make the theme more consistent on Mac, including a fixed page info window, cleaner settings groups, native titlebar color, and much more.

If you're not a big fan of Australis or want a more modern-looking appearance, this is probably it.
