Invites tommrow? Possibly

I just was looking and saw that last years March event invites went out the 10th of March. Then I looked and realized that tommrow is April 10th. I know the month is off but even so Apple could announce a event tommorow matching their previous date of the 10th. Yes its all anecadotal and I'm reading way to much into this but well someone's gotta be the crazy person staying up all night drawing connections bewtween things that have no connection :D:):apple:

iPad line was just updated/streamline last month. The new iPad is flying off the shelves. There won't be another update at least til the fall

While the latest iPad was more of a "sidegrade" than an upgrade to the Air 2, I don't see why they would release new models just weeks after its launch. Why wouldn't they have unveiled them all at once? At this point, I'm thinking that summer is the soonest we'll see new iPads, but fall or even the holiday season is much more likely.

I mean they're in entirely diiffferent product categories now, has Apple ever updated the MacBook and MacBook Pro at the same event hmmm;)

You're kidding right? That was not an update, not even close. More of a downgrade. Apple had extra iPad Air casings lying around and saw a way to sell them for cheap. Flying off the shelves, I highly doubt it. The iPad Pros are due for an update, without a doubt.

OP: We could see an invite tomorrow, but unlikely. I never bought into this 4/14 iPad release. I would say the week of the 17th or 24th are more likely and we could see invites mid-week.

Because anyone buying the new iPad is not interested in Pro features. Its just a very basic and very cheap iPad. It would not hurt their sales of the 'new' one at all. Completely different target audiences.

Uhh the MacBook has been around for years and years now and its usually upgraded every 1-2 years. Remember the White polycarbonate? Still a MacBook. This is just a new body style. No different than when the MBP got a new look several years back.

Apple usually (not always, but usually) updates the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro together.

You and me share equal views, I agree a event will probably be announced mid/later this week I just thought that the 10th lining up was a funny coincidence. As for that "new" iPad its great for those wanting a basic iPad for the fundamental uses of a iPad, but come on Apple the Pro community wants its turn now.

For as long as I can remember the MacBook and Air line has been updated separately from the MacBook Pro, with the MacBook Pro in fall and Airs in Spring, although my memory could be scrambled

Yes and no. There are years that we got all laptops at WWDC in June, then there are years where MacBook came in Spring, Airs in Summer and Pros in Fall. There really is not exact time frame. But for a while laptops were spring/summer and iMacs were late fall.

That makes since, I seem to remember that, I started paying attention to it all in 2010 but my memories of Apples events and timing is foggy pre 2012

They definitely had more predictable patterns back then. 2011 was a massive curveball moving iPhone from June to September.

Um yes. They still sell the Air as refurbs, therefore they still have the components to make it. Hence the reason why the new iPad is literally an Air.

Why else would they make the new iPad the same as the Air and not the Air 2 which was still in production and could have easily used that casing.

Apple uses just in time manufacturing. Furthermore, Apple's procurement teams wouldn't be silly enough to buy millions of dollars of shells sitting in a warehouse for no reason. Apple's suppliers like Catcher Technology supply the iPad chassis on an as needed basis. This tightly linked supply chain is one of the reasons why iPhone and iPad production will never move to the U.S.

Even if we ignore the above, the iPad (2017) chassis has different volume button, speaker, and microphone cutouts from the iPad Air. Not to mention the iPad (2017) comes in gold color which was never available on the iPad Air.

No, neither Apple nor their suppliers keep extra iPad casings around.

Fine, I will concede to your point, but up until your last sentence. Because Apple is still making and selling Air refurbs, there must be extra iPad air casings lying around. Otherwise they wouldn't still be selling refurbs, they would only be making refurbs for replacement AppleCare iPads. They typically stop selling refurbs once the 'well' of supplies have dried up. Especially considering how old the Air is now.

Its Very similar to the iPhone SE casing that was reintroduced similarly to the 5s. The Air One casing is likely is in similar fashion to how the new iPad 9.7 is now. I do understand their differences in cutouts and in color variations, but the molds were likely the same. In Order for Apple to obtain the price point of the 9.7 inch iPad, it certainly isn't a casing as thin as the Pro.

Even if they use "just in time manufacturing", the mold and process to retrain for a new product is the most expensive and time consuming cost. They essentially used the same mold and schematics that the factories were already trained to assemble, albeit some updated parts, to keep cost down and sell it at a high margin/low price.
 
I certainly don't think a silent upgrade / press release for old iPad hardware repackaged and sold for cheap means that there won't be an update to the Pro line. I still expect something in the spring/summer time frame. They need to push iPad/iOS like they did for Mac/OS X in the past. This is how they gain steam.

Would make no sense to do an event after they just announced the iPad. if anything they would of done it together if something was close.

october is more likely imo

I think they're going to update the 12.9" pro on WWDC. I dont expect a new chip, maybe A10, but that's a maybe. I'm confident they're gonna include true tone and upgrade the camera or whatever
 
There will be no event now until WWDC which is likely to be a software only event, so the next product event will be September with new iPhone 7S and iPhone 8, we could also see iPad's, after that we are likely to see a October event for Mac's probably an updated iMac.

I disagree. That's too much hardware to be released in a 2 months period. Something has to be unveiled on WWDC. Not prior though
