The only reason I disagree with this is because it cannibalizes sales. Releasing both at the same time would be a bad move, because most people will only buy one of them at a time. I suspect no later than WWDC because of it. If they're going to release updates to anything there, they could do iPad - though I seriously doubt they will, unless there's some secret XCode release for it they're planning.

My gut says early May now. I'm hoping for invites before the end of the month -- the logistics start getting too tight if they wait any longer. Just my humble opinion, of course.

Apple did exactly that at the 2015 September event, the iPad Pro 12.9" was announced alongside the iPhone 6S, updated Apple Watch's and Apple TV.

Agreed - they've had several fall lineups with multiple product releases. 2012, 2013, 2014 also had iPad launches. And 2015 they released the mini 4 as well as the Pro 12.9", though I don't believe there was an updated Watch at the time (maybe new bands and showing watchOS2).

My guess will be an iPhone + Watch + TV event in September, followed by an iPad + iMac event in October.

The thing about the 12.9" iPad was the pencil was a major new feature. The new ones might have a screen size shift, but really, I suspect the changes will be limited to frame rate (subtle), possible force touch (nice, but not necessary, hard to appreciate just from looking at it), faster touch ID, flash, better cameras, and a longshot at having an OLED display. The rest of the changes I can imagine are going to be software-level. So, unless it's got a radical new feature to go along with everything else I don't think they'll try to steal the thunder from the iPhone 8/7S.

Anyway, again, just my two cents. I'm probably wrong about this stuff. I'm just thinking how I'd do it to build hype against, say, Microsoft's surface updates next month, or temper the Galaxy Tab S3 (and the S8) all coming out this month. Apple hopefully will drop something to draw our attention back from the other show floors.

Actually, my biggest fear is they're not going to update the 12.9". They'll scrap it and merge the two together into a single 10.5" Pro lineup. That itself makes me want to find a 12.9" locally and get it, since I have the accessories for it already. Sort of. But again, I don't know. All I know is 12.9" supply is looking severely constrained in all parts of the world right now, and it slips further each day for shipping (Now May 15).

That worries me a bit as well. Though I have strong hope that not only will they keep the 12.9, but expand to even larger iPads in the future as well. Honestly, I'd love a 15+" 'desktop' iPad to replace my home iMac.

I have said this before on this forum but the Apple online store is showing the 12.9" ipad pro available for pickup today at my local North Texas Apple Store

That's very unlikely as the 12.9 inch has a definite crowd that loves that screen size, they would be dumb to scrap it. They do however need to scrap 9.7 give that 10.5 edge to edge display and then give the 12.9 the same treatment and slim it's area down just a bit as it is a little bulky. Then relegate the 9.7 and Mini to the budget line of iPads as they are now.

I don't know that Apple would ever expand to a larger iPad over the 12.9 inch version, but I definitely think the 12.9 inch iPad has a strong future in the sense of Apple wants it to be for desktop computing. If you look at the recent advertisements on how they intend it to replace a PC with the smart keyboard attached, it appears they are aiming in this direction.

My dream iPad is the 12.9 without the bezels. I love the screen just make it a smudge less large it would be perfect.

We need Ming Chi Kuo to step in and tell us what is going on. He hasn't said a peep about the iPad since January 8, where he perfectly predicted the new low cost 5th gen iPad but said new 12.9 and 10.5 were coming too. Ming Chi Kuo is always fairly accurate.
