Well how it even works, for starters. Sometimes I'll hold my thumb down for Touch ID and it seems to open to the home screen. Other times it seems to recognize the print but still requires ‘press home to open’, other times it seems to bring up the passcode screen no matter what. I can't seem to get it consistent and it’s irritating me.

If it has notifications, you need to click home else you don't.

Did you forget it's a beta?!

I currently have the developer beta installed and it is actually running pretty well. With that said, I am confused by some of the visual changes. They are...ugly and tacky. Hopefully there are some good tweaks between now and September.
I agree 100%. Great concept, captivating features, unpleasant design choices (some, not all).

It sounds to me that half of the features that people want is just a rip of Android. I want iOS to remain iOS not some crazy amalgam of iOS and Android. If people think that iOS10 isn't functional or crappy the solution is simple, buy an Android device and S T F U. Too many people whinge.

So you're saying that desirable features from other OS'es should never be adapted for iOS ? This is what has made both Android and iOS better. Without doing that, iOS would not have cut and paste, for example. But, I do agree with you that some people just complain about features they don't have rather than ones they do [cough] dark mode [/cough].

I really like iOS 10. I don't like Apple Music though . I think the redesign is better but to me Spotify is far superior. I do wish iOS 10 had notifications where the clock and battery life was instead of the badges like android but it's not deal breaker. Also the Widgets section is cool.

iCloud backups are encrypted by default

Maybe they meant a form of encryption where only the user has the key. iCloud backups remain under complete control of Apple and they either have the keys or the means to retrieve/reset them.

It's not a disappointment in terms of upgrades from year-to-year, but I think OP was just expecting something revolutionary due to it being the "10" version. I suppose in those terms it can be viewed as a disappointment as Apple did not put enough behind its development to make it news grabbing.

Hopefully Apple is saving the revolutionary update for the big hardware update.

Unlike humans, who don't start counting their age until after their first birthday (before which they are zero years old , I suppose), software versions start at 1. So if Apple wants to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the iPhone and iOS (a good bet), the big stuff will be in iOS 11, not iOS 10.

Dude are you serious. Without Android we wouldn't have Cut & Paste? Stop for a second and think about what you're saying. That is a ludicrous statement. Cut & paste has been around from the days of GEM & Windows 1.0. Why on earth would they have needed Android to copy that?

I don't understand why people just all of a sudden start "expecting" based on nothing... Really?! iOS 10?! The number 10 makes people think it will be something unbelievable?! The worst thing is people who expect such things ain't from the industry... Yes Apple has a lot of resources, yes they have money but it's not voodoo. Good software development requires a lot of time and analysis. And really, what would make people think it's "revolutionary"?! Ideas?!

Believe it or not, the world and the bulk of Apples iPhone sales DO NOT go to geeks. You can't just add features en-mass because you will freak most of their user base out. Features need to be added gradually so the the masses learn to use them. My sister is a good example. She would use 1/10 of the features of an iPhone and she isn't a dumb person, she just doesn't care. I recon half of the people that use an iPhone don't even know that you can swipe down on the main screen and do a search. I understand this site is for geeks though and I guess that's why they complain but iOS development does not and will never revolve around them.

I mean look at all the features of the editor on this Forum. Paragraphs, bold, italic blah blah blah but people just type plain text 98% of the time.

Get my point.

Wow, you completely missed the point: iOS did not have cut & paste (even though it existed). Good argument that if Android didn't have it, iOS still might not. My point is that the competition with Android has been great for users of both OSes.

For me personally, I don't care if it's a rip off from android. If it works, it works for me

I usually embrace the improvements in iOS, but I don't jive with 10 at all. I know exactly what you mean about unlocking. It's nonsense. Between that and the silly looking design changes, I'm considering sitting out an iOS version for the first time. Unfortunately that isn't a great option either for security reasons. Hopefully it gets better before the official release.

You can't please everyone. Personally I love the new looks of iOS 10. Prefer it actually over iOS 9.
I think they hired leapFrog to design the notification system.

I think iOS 10 is a decent update. I *love* the new lockscreen, iMessage is an even better platform now. However I wish they would improve some of the native apps. I use a Galaxy S7 Edge and iPhone 6S +, I swap regularly. Email and calendar is so far and away better on the S7E (and most Android devices for that matter). It's not just the robust interfaces but they seem to *work* better. When I need to set a meeting in the calendar from Exchange, names/email populate lightening quick with Android. The iPhone Cal takes FOR-EFFING-EVER to populate a name. I've been with 2-3 different companies over the span of time the iPhone has been available, so this isn't a company-specific issue. This is just one example. iOS email is wonky at times too.

See? I'm not asking for anything flashy or "exciting". I just wish they would pay a little attention to their native apps.
