What precisely is the benefit of this feature? My messages have more or less been in sync across my devices for a long time now. Does it do an even better job at that? Or is it the storage offloading that is the benefit (1 copy of a message and media is kept in the cloud vs several versions of the same message + media kept in several different places)?

Delete one place, deletes everywhere. Plus the storage.

Offloads the storage to iCloud, it also fully syncs the messages between all your devices rather than just delivering them at the same time. For example, after enabling it messages that were sent prior to when I got my iPad showed up on it after enabling iCloud messages. Messages also disappear on all devices when you delete them on one.

So this will be a major benefit when getting a new device or setting up a phone as new.

And setting up new devices. – If you set up a device with another device's backups, it'll of course inherit the messages, but if you set it up as a new device, it won't. With Messages "on" (hate that they don't write in) iCloud, when you log in to your Apple ID it should sync with the existing messages on that new device

So my iMessages should be in iCloud now? My messages used to be 5gb on my phone. So the 5b worth of messages would be in iCloud? Will it use the iCloud storage? I'm really confused ‍♂️

Just notice a “show ignored content” in forum lol.
Apps that were downloaded from multiple App Store’s can now be updated without changing the Store
I always update all installed apps on my phone purchased from three (now two) stores. From iOS 9 or 10, I do not need to switch to another store to update. I just need to login, and that’s about it. Not sure what the change mean.

I hope 11.3 is good but after the bugs in 11.2.5 beta. I'm sticking to release versions for the time being.
As your name suggests, our hope for a stable bug free iOS is broken.

Someone could put it in the “Resolved Issues” section. And then everyone can talk about how great it is that it’s “fixed.”
Well, I’m inclined to say, it’s mostly fixed, if not completely fixed. I’ve been in different places and it updates very quickly.

Are you having low cellular signal? It only activate if you have low cellular coverage. It is on the front page.

That’s BS if you ask me, WiFi calling saves minutes, free WiFi calling you know, **** ain’t fair. I’m home on 100 Meg pipe and I like to to be on WiFi for calls and data all the time, why would they make this feature?

And I have 3 bars steady here ? It has to be 2 bars for it to activate?

There’s change made for WiFi calling if you have excellent cellular signal it will not activate WiFi Calling until your signal drops. Once public beta drops, you can report it using the Feedback app. I would rather be on WiFi too since download speed is much higher than cellular download. Either this is a new feature or a bug. Did it activate on 3 bars? After I turned off my LTE Cellspot, receptions drops to 2 bars and it activated WiFi Calling.

I think it may be operator dependant. I've gut full reception right now, and WiFi calling is enabled on my iPhone 8. I'm in Denmark with a Danish operator; Telenor

Thats not how it works. If you're connected to wifi, you get wifi speeds, no matter what. The change seems to be whether it routes your cellular connection through the traditional cell network or through the wifi connection. That wouldn't have an effect on your download speeds, as you'd be connected to wifi either way. Wifi calling can be flaky sometimes in my experience. I'd prefer to use the macro network if the signal is good, and use wifi at times of a degraded signal. T-mobile has always defaulted to wifi, I believe they did this to offload some traffic to help their network as well as coverage. Perhaps they don't need that help anymore, so they can change the behavior for a better experience.

  • If WiFi Calling is On, it will only activate if cellular signal is low
This had to be one of my biggest pet peeves because WiFi Calling will inexplicably cause incoming/outgoing calls to go mute after a few seconds into a call.

Since about two hours after installing the beta my phone has crashed and resprung over and over again non stop. I’ve tried a hard reset and that didn’t work. It will only stay on for about 15 seconds before rebooting over and over. Does anybody have any suggestions?
I had this same darn issue. After about 2 hours and nearly restoring my device back to 11.2.5, I found something interesting. During one of the restarts it connected to 4G instead of the normal LTE, and didn’t restart anymore.

As a result I reset network settings and things seem to be fine the past 30 minutes, knock on wood. Annoying bug!

Carriers treat airtime on WiFi Calling the same as if you were on cellular. In regards to data, if you’re on WiFi then your data won’t count against you. I suggest you use facetime audio when you can to avoid going over minutes.

For those who've enabled Messages in iCloud:

Does it matter if you do it on iPhone vs. iPad first? Example: my iPad Pro has a larger messages library than my iPhone does because I sometimes wipe my phone when I'm bored and start fresh. Additionally, one of my MBPs has an even larger library than iPad and iPhone, and my other MBP has a smaller library than most of the other devices.

With that in mind, if I go 11.3b1 on my phone first with iCloud Messages auto-enabling (because 2FA), will I lose messages on my iPad and Macs? What appears to be the 'source of truth' for the messages library is what I'm getting at, I guess.

Ultimately, it's not that big of a deal to me (obvs given the phone thing) but I'm a nerd and I'm curious.

View attachment 748318 Apple TV now appears in the Home app, appears on when music is playing, appears off when music is paused. Also, AirPlay 2 multiroon audio is enabled. Tapping on the Apple TV AirPlay button would crash the phone and cause a respring though...

Everything else is good, buttery smooth on iPhone X and iPad Pro 9.7

If the Apple TV is playing you can tap it in the home app to pause and vice versa. Once you hit play/pause once the Apple TV will respond but then you have to force quit the home app to give another command. Ie you can pause Apple TV, quit home app, play. Or vice versa.

Did anybody else notice problems with the App “Sleep Cycle”?

1) It seems to have recorded me being awake for ~1h and then as if it was binary for the rest of the night it was on deep sleep. I have seen this before but only when I listened to something for much more than 15min after starting the alarm (not so this time).

2) (and much more severe) It didn’t start the alarm until I unlocked the phone. I set a normal alarm to the same time on my iPad and after ~30s of my Phone not going off I unlocked it and the alarm immediately started

No Messages option in iCloud settings. I can't turn it on. I did get the screen about Messages in the Cloud when I first opened Messages after installing 11.3. All it had was a Continue button and nothing else. I do have 2FA enabled but iCloud Backup is off.
You need both 2FA and iCloud Backup or you don't get messages on iCloud.

I feel like they abandoned the "Update All" option when you 3D Touch App Store

That comes and goes for me. Wasn't working on 11.2.5, But i reverted back to 11.2.2, updated via iTunes to 11.2.5 and it worked. Last night it worked on 11.3 B1 but this morning it isn't. Odd as it works on test flight
[doublepost=1516859841][/doublepost]Well Messages in iCloud is definitely messed up for me.

I have messages on my phone that have not appeared on my MacBook or iPad despite all 3 having iCloud messages enabled.

Really don't want to delete messages from all three devices to start afresh.

EDIT: I wonder if this is the issue? I’ll force a backup when I get home later and see if it fixes it.
