Took a chance on a 1st beta and so far, I'm really happy on my iPhone 8. It's running a lot smoother than 11.2.5 and I wasn't really unhappy with that. But this seems notably more polished.

After I read all posts I still dont know how is battery with this beta. Its bad because of no thortling?
iPad Air 2 23% battery left going down fast but first day of beta so normal

iPhone 7 Plus 64% battery so good for first day of battery

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but this now happens when tapping on a song title while playing a playlist-

Finally!

AirPlay 2 is amazing, its exactly what AirPlay should have been all along. This is exactly what I have always wanted. I can't wait for Sonos to update my speakers to include AirPlay 2 so I can directly control everything within iOS instead of having to go into the Sonos-app all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love Sonos and what if offers. I replaced all my AirPlay (v1) speakers with Sonos and it gives me much better flexibility and much better speaker managements, grouping and multi-room.

But using Apple Music within the Sonos-app doesn't compare to using the actual app, not at all. And its rather fiddly to always have to use the Sonos-app for controls and the app itself is such a battery hog for no apparent reason. I'm currently testing AirPlay 2 to three of our rooms as all three have Apple TV's in them running tvOS 11.3 BETA1 and grouping and everything is so easy directly in iOS. When the Sonos-speakers get updated with support for AirPlay 2 I will basically never have to use the Sonos-app ever again for anything else other than setting up new speakers and firmware upgrades.

I notice when playing around with AirPlay 2 that it still seems to function in a "point-to-point" fashion. In other words when I AirPlay from Overcast or Apple Music from my phone to my Living Room Apple TV and Bedroom Apple TV I will get audio in both rooms etc.. It works great.

But if I receive a notification or anything that stops the playback, or if I simply disconnect the devices from the network the playback will stop. Apple Music will continue playing, and even change songs on a playlist but after 2 min it stops. Overcast will stop immediately.

But one thing I can do is control the playback on the Apple TV itself. If I open the "now playing" on the Apple TV I can use the Apple TV remote to pause and restart the song, and when looking on my phone it will change on the phone as well. There is no way to look at upcoming songs or playlists while AirPlaying, not even when AirPlaying for Apple Music.

As all of this feels somewhat disconnected, but hey its the very first BETA containing the feature it bring the question. How is it supposed to work?

Will AirPlay 2 still be a strictly point-to-point connection. So even with AirPlay 2 you are still streaming from your local devices to the AirPlay receiver or will it gain a Sonos and Chromecast Audio like feature where AirPlay 2 itself will be able to just be told what to play and it will be able to stream it directly from the web by itself?

The major downside with it only being point-to-point is how the playback will get interrupted as soon as you do something else on your phone, or when you move out of range of your network connection, answer a phone call etc.. Its also far less ideal in "party situations" as you can simply have people adding music to a queue.

Hi all.
Follow-up monitoring my IPhone 6 Plus cpu speed(using CPU DasherX).
At 35% battery level, cpu frequency drops to 1127MHz.
Yes, throttling still alive in this beta.

I'm not one to jump on the "it feels snappier" bandwagon, but my SE legitimately felt more fluid after 11.3 was installed.

I wouldn't think it was being throttled as the phone is less than a year old (closer to 6 months), and is definitely under 500 charge cycles.

Sounds like most of us are seeing the same thing. Seems that battery life isn’t being negatively affected either and ram management is much better. I know some are having some issues, but it seems like it’s the same folks who have had continuous issues with iOS 11. I’m happy.

Am interested to know if the ppl having constant issues across multiple beta’s have tried a proper clean install of any of them from ipsw files? Full reset/erase & go from there.

Because of various bugs in the wiki post, I held off on putting it on my X. What's funny is that now my SE (without a SIM, mind you) is now finally getting my text and iMessages. I've had syncing set up since I got my X, they just never went to the SE anymore.

So now if I'm at home, I on occasion hear my message tone in 3-way stereo from the X, SE, and iPad :D

This first beta is REALLY making Apple look bad. They claim their throttling was built in to protect people from automatic shutdowns resulting in data loss but I haven't read a single report of that happening. All I'm seeing is talk of how fast and smooth these older devices are while also seeing an improvement in battery life.

I'd like to know who to thank for finding the evidence and busting Apple out on that crap.

Battery management has definitely changed- less aggressive but also not as smart. For example, I was down to 5% battery, the phone was running at 1127 MHz (out of 1400 max) but not in low power mode. At that point I think you would want to be throttled to keep the phone from powering off- especially if you needed it for making calls.

For some reason my 2nd iPhone and my 2nd iPad cannot see my AirPods. It looks like it isn’t even trying to find them?

Same AppleID on all and I see the AirPods still as an option when I go in the Bluetooth settings. Just not as connected.

How is that not as smart? Sounds like your phone is being throttled when it’s very low on battery, which is what you want. What am I missing?

I think if you're aware of the fact that you need it for making calls you're going to be paying attention to the battery. If the battery gets that low you're probably going to be using Low Power Mode, which still throttles the phone.

One improvement that has bothered me from the beginning was my iPad Pro 10.5, when trying to access control center, it would delay and just be slow to activate, it is finally instant when trying to activate it with 11.3. For everyday use, this is very welcoming.

This beta does not solve the issue for me. I did the OTA though. The lag happens when I try to access the CC immediately after I close a game. Not sure if a clean install of the beta will help or not .

I guess the throttling working as promised.
