Great question actually and the answer depends upon the setting shown in my screenshot. If you have “Change with buttons” turned on, which it sounds like you do, the side buttons only control ringer and alert volume. In this case, the control center volume will change the system volume for all sounds besides ringer and alerts.

I have "Change with Buttons" on. While playing music, the side buttons control music volume; when not playing music or other media, the side buttons control ringer volume. I apologize if I'm missing something.

Anyone having any issues playing music on Apple Watch with this iOS beta? I used to be able to tell my Apple Watch to play an album and it would play from my iPhone’s music library (I don’t use Apple Music). Now when I ask my Apple Watch to play a song or album the Siri interface just stops and nothing happens. Only started since iOS 11.4 betas. I have an Apple Watch series 3 (non-cellular) on 4.3 (non-beta) and iPhone X on 11.4 beta 5. Tried hard resets and unpairing/repairing.

Pretty sure you’re Wrong.
Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, made the comment himself!

https://mashable.com/2018/01/30/apple-ios-12-focus-performance-stability.amp

Here's the quote from the article:

Craig Federighi, Apple's senior vice president of software engineering, has reportedly ordered the iOS team to focus on performance and stability (translation: under-the-hood changes) instead of flashy new features like a "refresh of the home screen," according to Axios.

The key word in there is reportedly. No one has commented publicly on this. While it will be good if they do devote a lot of iOS 12 energy to fixing bugs and ironing things out generally, I guarantee you there will be new features of some sort. Just not the 200 or so they usually have, all told.

If this is true, I’m curious how stable beta 1 will be...

Yes. I choose a playlist on the phone (using the Watch) and the Watch refuses to play it. If I wait long enough, it will play a random song from another playlist.

I don‘t think that wallpaper actually exists. It‘s a drawn version of the default iOS11 one, made for the iPad 6 introduction video (see the drawn on time UI etc).
Nope. It actually exists See this:-

Thanks for the reply! I guess I’ll see how beta 6 goes or perhaps WatchOS just needs to be updated to 4.4.

Still no success with beta 6. I wonder if it's really the beta or if my Watch is glitchy. I may restore to 11.3.1 tomorrow to check.

EDIT: @Kermetajb Went back to 11.3.1 and it works perfectly as far as playing music on my iPhone 8 Plus from the Watch. Guess the betas are borking it for now.

One thing the betas have fixed is that when I click on a YouTube link in landscape mode, YouTube opens and immediately begins playing the video in landscape mode, Before, I had the wrestle with the damned phone to get the video to go into landscape mode. That's a big plus for me as far as the latest betas.

Hey thanks so much for letting me know that. Yes I too noticed that beta 6 was still a problem with this. Like I said I’m just hoping that maybe watchOS 4.4 fixes this. Unfortunately I can’t test that since I’m only on the public beta.

@Banglazed perhaps this could be added to the bug list unless you can confirm otherwise?

@Banglazed for your reference and the whole story.
