You are understanding correctly.

The suggestion for the switch was based on what I assumed was difficult accessing its plug which could be required once manually unlocked to reestablish the data connection (a faux unplug and plug back in if you will). Apologies if I misunderstood the problem.

What version of iOS are you on? I think you’ll need to wait till iOS 11.4.1/12 or be patient. If you haven’t already asking in the iOS 12 forum might help, if not pm me when the GM launches and I’ll test it for you.

And I thought I had integration problems. Lol

I need new iPads though but I’ll be thoroughly testing it eventually anyway.

Thanks. Fortunately I upgraded it to 11.3.1 a few days before 11.4 came out and Apple stopped signing 11.3.1. So yes I have to stand pat on 11.3.1 for now... or at least until more is known about whether 11.14 got more restrictive with iAP connections and if so, how much. I've also heard nothing more (since the 11.3 beta) about whether they've added the ability to defeat these restrictions via MDM. If so, maybe it's the same thing as toggling "USB Accessories" in the lock screen settings but that still needs to be ascertained.

I am not against this feature at all--it's probably a good thing for most users. I just want to have the option to not use it if it's going to screw up my car audio. And I really wish Apple would be explicit and transparent about what's changing in what release and how it works.

Sounds like you are probably taking about 11.3 and 11.4.

 Indeed...

In my defense I've been spending most of my time recently in the MacOS world and they're up to .13 and .14 over there.

Still though, yikes.
