10 years, 3 features, wow.

I can't think of any releases in the past which have been even a small surprise when it comes to final release. If Apple were to do anything even remotely "big" it would negate the whole purpose of 4 months of developer releases so developers could ready their apps.

That's what you said and @C DM mentioned 3 very big ones aside from Apple Pay, dual camera lens, 4k recording, live photos, OIS and other hardware and software items too numerous to mention. If none of the many hardware or hundreds of software updates didn't "knock your socks" that's on you. We all have our opinions on what we look for.

There have been many. Each time the iPhone has added a new hardware feature.

I was more excited for iOS to be discussed during WWDC than any previous iOS. There has been so much hype about "iPhone 8" and what could be of it, that I thought for sure we'd be blown away with Apple FINALLY modernizing the OS. I get it, it works, but each passing year iOS lags further and further behind Android's feature list.

After watching the keynote and seeing what Apple has up its sleeves for iOS 11, I'm a bit skeptical that the iPhone 8 (or whatever they'll call it this fall) will live up to the hype that people are making it out to be. For three years now, Apple has delivered consistently unremarkable updates to iPhone. If this year's iOS preview is any indication of what's coming, I think we're all in for a disappointing September\October.

I hope I'm wrong.

Than go buy an Android device and call it a day.

Let's be real....if a UI/UX designer in another company comes up with a control centre UI (or something similar to a control centre) as in this new iOS 11 a.k.a cluster**** of toggles in one screen he/she can pack his bags and look for another job.
But ofcourse, not at Apple HQ.

When those designers at Apple HQ were ready with the revamp of the iOS 11 control centre they looked at eachother and said to eachother:
''wow, yes...this is it...it took us 11 (!!!) versions of iOS, but this is the most beautiful useful control centre we ever created, we can be very proud, heck its designed by Apple, so its amazing anyway!!"

To me, this new Control Centre is a perfect example of a company getting really, really lazy when it comes to both soft- and hardware (iPhone 6/6S/7).
But then again I realise people are coming back anyway for the Holy Grail, the Apple eco system. And of course due to the fact they are vendor locked in (seamless intergration between Apple devices).

Apple is fully aware of this, so even if they **** up a Control Centre in iOS 11 by being super lazy, the user doesn't care, cause of the Apple eco system and vendor lock in.
People are buying their iPhones regardless at almost any price (f.e outright or in a 24 months plan), Apple can do little to less efforts for this, the $$$ are coming to Cupertinho anyway so why bother??

I still really like and use with joy, all of my Apple devices I got over the years, but the laziness (soft-hardware) of Apple is very clear the last few years.

TL;DR

Apple can continue hardware and software wise like they did the last 3 or 4 years, with very very little changes, they make billions of dollars with making iPhones. Just simply look at the sales history.
People stay with Apple cause of the seamless integration between Apple devices and the eco system; you have got the prefect vendor lock in here.
So why should Apple really bother with real useful changes in soft- and hardware?

I am also active on Reddit indeed. There were several topics on Reddit regarding this, its not that macrumors forums is privileged on these subjects :)

You may call it ''crap'', that's fine ;)
It's just my personnal view on this, hopefully I am still allowed to have my OWN opinion on this.

I respect everyone's choices and opinions even if I don't agree with them.

edit: and the reason it was deleted; I deleted it myself since I got loads op people who somewhat assulted me for criticizing Apple

You strongly imply people are idiots because the “$$$ are coming Cupertinho(sic)” regardless. This hardly sounds like respecting people.

In any case copying and pasting a post like this, already deleted from elsewhere, is crap.
[doublepost=1497673246][/doublepost]BTW i wouldn’t worry about being moderated like you were on Reddit though. Here on Macrumors I’m much more likely to be moderated for calling out your low signal/noise trolling than you are for posting it.

I never used the word ''idiots'', you make up that word yourself, not me.

Read my last post again regarding respecting people's choices and opinions. I will never, ever imply people being idiots.
I was just stating Apple makes billions of dollars with their iPhones, this is not an opinion but simply facts. That was my intention of that particular sentence; ''Apple makes billions of dollars, if if they make almost identical hardware and software''.

Again, its my view on this. Its fine that you dont agree, but please just respect my view on this

The whole post is a bunch of tired, trite endlessly retreaded trolling. From the fantasy smug, back slapping internal Apple conversation to the image of Apple users as making an uninformed decision because they’re lazy, stupid or locked in. It. Is. Garbage.

You had your last reply from me. This kind of crap is seemingly welcomed here on MR. That it was moderated appropriately on /r/Apple says it all really.

It was not moderated, I deleted it myself since people used not so many nice words to me. I never had the intention to insult people, thats why I completely deleted the topic post over at Reddit.

And yeah sure, pull the well known trolling ''card'' when someone is criticizing Apple. I see that a lot lately.

but let's stay on topic again ;) as this does not really help having a healthy discussion.

IOS 11 is amazing... for iPad. And i’m Okay with that. it’s not pretty on iPhone, but it’s snappy and reliable. Some more customization for app icons is all I’d really want.

There are features that are exclusive to the new iPhones which they can’t reveal yet. Like for example 3D Touch on the 6S.... my brain is fried from a long week right now so I can’t remember any others, but every year there are a few.

The people who complain about the same thing year after year, certainly do not think Apple listens to them, online or through the feedback tool.

Considering Apple made several PR releases addressing "Unhappy" online users, I think you're wrong.

I was addressing the universe of apple customers, who believe Apple is not listening to them personally. Every large company has a social media group dedicated to this type of thing, but no matter what apple does, there will be those who will always be unhappy. Clearly apple wants feedback as in : https://feedback.apple.com

I just wanted to apologize for starting this thread. I didn't realize that expressing my opinion about the staleness of iOS would have such backlash. I didn't think having an opinion about what I perceive to be a rather stale OS would be so hated on. I love Apple, but I'd also love them for years to come. Android is absolutely decimating iOS right now, and it's because every time a new Android phone comes out, it has wow features. Whenever a new Android OS comes out, it has wow features. If you're a user on the iOS side, it's hard to stay loyal when the competition is getting wow hardware and wow software. We've gotten neither for more than 4 years now.

Sorry if people are upset I expressed my opinions. I never felt so smashed and feeling like I'm not allowed to have an opinion. It's really sad. I guess the only opinion that matters is yours. When an OS has 10% marketshare, it's absurd to not think there's huge room for improvement, so sorry to say, if you're in the "Apple can do no wrong, the OS is great" camp, you'll find you're on the wrong side of history.

Then just leave gracefully. No one here is head of Apple and can change anything for you to keep drumming on and on about; that is and has always been the point. It's kicking a dead horse that's been kicked for years. No one here thinks iOS is perfect, but there is nothing anyone can do via posting on Macrumors forum to change anything.

The premise of this thread is totally flawed to begin with as many new software features are announced at the time new hardware is because they are hardware dependent and they arent going to leak that now.

Marketshare means nothing unless you own company stock; that is just flawed logic that something is better because more are sold more. So a McDonalds burger is better than a local made gourmet burger because they sell tens of millions per year versus a few thousand a restaurant may crank out? Main factor is price in relation to volume; you sell a hell of a lot more volume at lower cost.

And on that segue, Android is decimating iOS in marketshare because they are selling 90% or more of the total devices at sub $200 levels (whatever the number is a/k/a cheap devices) to developing/poor countries. Believe it or not not everyone can afford a $800 phone (iphone or Galaxy S8/LG G6/Pixel/etc) even if they wanted to in say Malaysia where average salary is about $14,600 PER YEAR. They buy the $150 Android phone they can afford.

It has very very very little to do with features; sure some prefer the openness but the volume is based on that is all those people can even afford to buy. That is just a totally uneducated claim.

But this is becoming like the old joke of people posting on social media that they are quitting social media. If you dont like something then go switch, no one is going to chase you down to convince you to stay on iOS.

The idea of if someone doesn't like something they should just switch vs voicing their concerns to others on a community board, is funny. It'll only drive Mac further into the distant "me too" platform. You should support those who have ideas and suggestions, instead of telling them they're wasting time voicing their opinion.

i think the smart phone has reached its peak, refinements only now and forever
we really should remember what we had 10 years ago.

I agree. iOS had a huge successful period, and now it's just the tiny minority mobile OS. Apple is content hoping people will just blindly follow, which judging by this forum, seems maybe they do have 5-8% of mobile users who just blindly follow and hold Apple accountable for nothing.

I don't think so but I'm starting to see Apple as an old company that's doing its best to adjust to a new environment. I say: give Apple a few more years and it will be the old Apple again. See how Microsoft is now seen as a dynamic up-to-date company. No more viewed as the Windows/Office company. But maybe for some users like me who are getting older, the pace at which Apple is evolving is acceptable. More in tune with my needs than Google. Like now I prefer a Buick Verano to the rutilant V8 350 4bbl Grand-Pix and Olsdmobile 442 of my youth. What if Apple was just a little out of synch and obliged to cater to a large portion of an older fanbase who is comfortable with what they have? Could it be? On the other hand, I agree with most of the posts here: iOS 10 or 11 may be much of the same with a different coating. As for "being locked in the Apple ecosystem", I have nothing against that and I'm damn happy with it. Once, I was locked in the Google universe and wasn't happy with it but millions and millions and millions of Android users in the world are. I ask them: what is it you can accomplish in 2017 that I cannot? Funny, I remember having the same conversations as far back as 1988 in the chatrooms of the day about a great war raging on the Earth: Windows vs Mac OS. 30 years later, not many remember this epic battle.

Pettiness is so 2016.

You're voicing your concerns on a macrumors forum as if anyone here works for Apple or if Apple checks these forums. That's what everyone here is saying, you don't seem to get that.
Hence switching is more of a solution than complaining on a forum.

Don’t forget: for a for-profit company, making money is more important than market share. Many companies have discovered that too late. Apple makes the lion's share of mobile profits. Until that changes, I think they are fine where they are.

The bolded is directly related to finding a suitable company when you have a purchasing requirement. I have a simple relationship to apple, product supplier vs customer. As long as apple produces a product I want to buy I will continue purchasing from them, else I won't. But I don't think it's your business, that "i hold apple accountable for nothing", after all it's my dollars, not yours, I'm using to purchase their products.

I'm really not sure what all the complaining is about. Much of it seems to be looks and screen design. There are many new functions in IOS11 and much more that will allow developers to do more - it is really the app developers who do much of what makes a phone useful. There are tons of new functions and features that we have already seen in IOS 11 and I'm sure we haven't seen all. To me the question is what do you want to do with your phone that you can't do? I'm sorry but more icons on home and different looking icons doesn't make a great phone. It sounds to me with the new functions that the phone will be much more predictive and helpful getting done what you want to do.

I'm pretty happy with iOS11. I'm not seeing anything better that any other OS can do.

I don't see apple ever clogging up the is with Touch Wiz like features and someone mention market share? Apple has already said they are not chasing that.

No one can come close to their financials.
