iOS 11 keeps turning WiFi on automatically

Every time I go home or to a place where I’ve connected to WiFi in the past, iOS 11 keeps automatically turning on my WiFi, even after I’ve turned the WiFi button on the phone off. Just now it re-connected to WiFi after I JUST turned it off 10 minutes earlier

Anyone else having this problem?

Tell it to forget the network.

It's a new feature. Turn it off with Siri or Settings if you want it to stay off.

Yes! According to reports, this is intentional by Apple. Only reason I see is to make people believe they need a new phone (8) because their battery keeps drawing as it repeatedly search’s for wi-fi and Bluetooth connections.

Yup, there couldn't really be any other fairly realistic and rational reasons for it that many have been discussing in various threads about it...

So, to all who say its not a problem, please go away! It is a huge issue! In the city I am constantly connected to wifi without choice, even after disabling auto connect to that network, it will connect anyway! Or, it will stall trying to connect to public networks which again it should not do!!!

This is a huge security issue but for me the biggest thing is that my data connection stalls when it is trying to connect! Which is always! Fix this stupid thing!!!!

only way now is got to settings and turn off wifi/data in there.

I think ios 11 should give option of how the toggles work.
as in like classic ios10 and before or ios11 mode.

LOL yes the only possibly reason could be yet another Apple conspiracy to drain your battery intentionally. I mean some of you REALLY need to be on some meds around here Im convinced.

This has been discussed to death already. It is an intentional "feature" of iOS11. Remember, MR people are the 1% of 1% of Apple educated people. Most people do no physically turn off wifi when leaving the house or office but leave it on and it reconnects when they get to the office or get home. Even I dont as I want to be on wifi at home or work not cellular data as wifi is much faster for me.

The average soccer mom wants to be able to disconnect from wifi and it magically reconnects when they get somewhere else with wifi and a known network to not suck their data plan. That seamlessness is what Apple is. Wifi being on uses a negligible amount of battery life if not connected.

All you have to do is 1 extra click into settings and tick the wifi off button and it wont come back on. Or if you forget the saved network it will not trigger the connection back on. It ONLY connects to previously networks you connected to, and you can easily tick forget that network. There is no security flaw but a user flaw.

It's not a "problem" according to Apple. It's designed to disconnect if you turn it "off" from the control center, but once you leave the wifi zone and return, it will reconnect. If you want it all the way off, you have to turn it off in Settings.

I can see the benefit, for example if I'm connected to my home wifi and am running to the store, it'll disconnect when I'm out of range and reconnect when I come home. The problem is that if you have "Ask to join networks" enabled, it'll give you the annoying pop-up for every wifi spot you encounter when away from networks you actually want to be on. Personally, I'd rather be able to switch it completely off and back on from the control center.

Right, because Apple's UI designers - sorry, User EXPERIENCE designers - know best about anything and everything, and if you don't find it intuitive you must be STUPID.

Now, Apple designers can't possibly be stupid, even when they design round mice, phones whose antenna attenuation patterns change based on the way you hold it, phones that bend in your pocket, and $1000 laptops with glitchy graphics chips. Those are user flaws.

i actually like very much the way that apple has intended it to be in iOS11.
however, your problem may indicate that theres a bug.

after you disconnect WiFi by clicking the button in Control Panel, it should not turn back WiFi unless anyone of the below happens:

• You turn on Wi-Fi in Control Center.
• You connect to a Wi-Fi network in Settings > Wi-Fi.
• You walk or drive to a new location.
• It’s 5 AM local time.
• You restart your device

But you are indicating that it reconnects back to the same WiFi network again, without doing any of the above actions?

if so, thats a bug.

when you design and release your own OS then you make the calls. Their OS their call.

I also have this problem and it is driving me crazy. I found out that the "settings" panel in control center only turns off wifi and bluetooth from connecting to "new" connections until you move out of an area or some time has passed. However, the point of doing this is to preserve functions such as handoff, airdrop and continuity while disconnecting from incoming connections or from the actual wifi network. If you want to turn off connections for once, you need to go to settings and then manually toggle off

I worked around the problem by using airplane mode whenever I don't want to be connected to wi-fi. That way, I can do everything from the Control Center and not have to go into settings. (But really, why should I have to??)

The thing is though: leaving wifi on all day will reduce battery life by at least ~10%. For some people, especially those with already diminished battery capacity, this will make the difference between all day battery and having to find a charger before days end.

I'm not really sure about that "will" or that "10%" as far as it applying to everyone or even most.

I just updated to iOS 11.02. I skipped the iOS11.01. I noticed right away it was turning on both WiFi and Bluetooth randomly. I was using the slide screen panel to shut them off. Finally I went into settings. I immediately noticed that they were still green until after I shut them off even though I turned them off in the slide panel. I hope that's the fix. I'll post back if it isn't.

The controls for WiFi and Bluetooth in the control center have been modified in iOS 11.
