What they should’ve done is made it a 3D Touch toggle on the WiFi button to completely turn it off like in settings...

I disagree with this. The "new" functionality should require a 3D Touch. The old functionality should have remained the same. Don't make me do more work (yes, 3D Touch is more work) to be able to do the same thing I could've done in iOS 10.

I also have this problem and it is driving me crazy. I found out that the "settings" panel in control center only turns off wifi and bluetooth from connecting to "new" connections until you move out of an area or some time has passed. However, the point of doing this is to preserve functions such as handoff, airdrop and continuity while disconnecting from incoming connections or from the actual wifi network. If you want to turn off connections for once, you need to go to settings and then manually toggle off
[doublepost=1513720531][/doublepost]If you go to Settings and turn off auto join under the wifi tab, it should keep wifi off for you. Hope that helps

Every time I go home or to a place where I’ve connected to WiFi in the past, iOS 11 keeps automatically turning on my WiFi, even after I’ve turned the WiFi button on the phone off. Just now it re-connected to WiFi after I JUST turned it off 10 minutes earlier

Anyone else having this problem?

I have same issue which is super annoying. But there is easy fix, go to Settings/WiFi/ and then choose (I) on the network you don’t want to be connected and turn off “Automatically join”. It’s default settings for every WiFi we are signing in.

Overall it’s great future but it’s should explain how to turn this off.

Cheers

That is a workaround, but WiFi shouldn't be getting enabled on its own if it's actually turned off in settings.

LOL yes the only possibly reason could be yet another Apple conspiracy to drain your battery intentionally. I mean  some of you REALLY need to be on some meds around here Im convinced.

This has been discussed to death already. It is an intentional "feature" of iOS11. Remember, MR people are the 1% of 1% of Apple educated people. Most people do no physically turn off wifi when leaving the house or office but leave it on and it reconnects when they get to the office or get home. Even I dont as I want to be on wifi at home or work not cellular data as wifi is much faster for me.

The average soccer mom wants to be able to disconnect from wifi and it magically reconnects when they get somewhere else with wifi and a known network to not suck their data plan. That seamlessness is what Apple is. Wifi being on uses a negligible amount of battery life if not connected.

All you have to do is 1 extra click into settings and tick the wifi off button and it wont come back on. Or if you forget the saved network it will not trigger the connection back on. It ONLY connects to previously networks you connected to, and you can easily tick forget that network. There is no security flaw but a user flaw.
[doublepost=1516634306][/doublepost]Wrong answer oh "educated" one. By the way, check the grammar. Since Apple has intentionally instituted this change and said next to nothing about it... one can surmise that there is a business advantage to doing so. You see, they're not here to take care of their customers...they're here to get all the pennies they can. For years on iPhone the public have been able to not connect to wifi or connect to wifi as they wish for a myriad of reasons. Now, we cannot. Even though Apple has the programming setup to still make it "look" like you are still turning it off...but you can't. But the phone sure can tell when you're near an Apple store or any other partner vendor of Apple Inc. Coincidence? They don't exist in business. Keep smiling and it'll all be ok...

It's not like there are people who actually make use of this feature and even like it...oh, wait...

Don’t be ignorant. I intentionally turn off my wifi when i leave the house and go out. There are no available networks where i’m going. It still turns on, several times. This is a security risk and a drain on my battery. Even if the products are marginally better, ios keeps getting worse. My next phone will not be an apple.

What's the security risk? And is there an actual meaningful noticeable battery drain?

Until I found this thread I thought it was a glitch with this 7Plus I got in November '17.

My 6sPlus on 10.3 never turned wi-fi on automatically, and ever since there were reports of phones updating to the latest ios back in iphone 4 days I've never left one on wi-fi at home intentionally.
I'm on 11.1 on this 7 plus and don't know what I'll gain by going to 11.3.
I know a couple of apps I use regularly run much smoother on 10.3 on my two 6s pluses.
