You do realize that Apple has just launched a brand new accessibility webpage touting its products as the most accessible ones. And you expect them to convert to black UI? Does not make any business sense...
Then they won't change to OLED/microLED.

This thread is about UI overhaul. My only point is, watch for a UI overhaul to closely follow/preceed the iPhone being like the AppleWatch with a switch to OLED technology.

Apple Watch has Oled because it has a tiny battery.

iPhone oled does not need a black UI because it has a large battery.

Lenovo Oled Thinkpad laptops don't have a black UI.

Samsung Oled smartphones don't have a black UI.

There are many Oled products that don't have or don't need black UI.

Honestly, I have no complaints about the look of iOS. Although Apple has never ceased to amaze me when they do a UI change.

I do have one complaint tho, and that is Notifications. iOS 10 made notifications HUGE, they take up way too much space. And multiple notifications from the same app should be grouped together in places like the Notification Center and Lock Screen.

Secondly, I would like to see a overhaul or (at least an option) to change the banner notifications. One thing I do like about Android, is they make use to the top "title" bar (in iOS, this is where signal strength, carrier, time, battery etc. is shown). I'd love to see banners slide down to double the thickness of the "title" bar and scroll the text across. it would be far less intrusive. If you wanted to action on the banner, you could tap or 3D Touch it to bring up your "rich" notification. I just personally find the notifications in iOS 10 far more intrusive and they take up at least 1.5x the space a notification used to.

It doesn't seem like th implication is that it's needed or would be a given, as much as it is to say that if something like dark mode was to come about after all this time it would probably more likely to happen with a screen technology change (especially one that could provide some additional benefits relating to darker colors).

I think if we would expect an iOS redesign, it would be revealed on an S update of the iPhone just like what they did on the iPhone 5s when iOS 7 was released. I think Apple relies on minor product refreshes to focus on major software overhauls and vice versa (remember Jony Ive had a hand with designing elements inside iOS 7?). So next year might not be the year we see a major redesign of iOS.

iOS 7 with this new design was released in 2013 and not 2012 ;) I'm pretty sure the new design language isn't coming for another few years. Probably iOS 13 or even later - it depends on how will the current design hold up. The iOS 6 design looked nice, but stale in comparison to Android in 2012/early 2013, so Apple had to do something more 'fresh'.

In 2012 Apple introduced iOS 7 with a fresh design with Ive touches after the departure of Forstall. to this date Apple kept the design and changed small elements and of course the wallpapers.
Personally I was let down in the announce of iOS 10 because I thought its time for a fresh look.
Do you think Apple will keep this design for another year or maybe more? (original design lasted from 2007-2012) or they might introduce a new look for their OS? I hope they will.

Why even post this look at your own pic you posted no change will come anytime soon if ever apple will prob go out of business by the time the decide to give users freedom

I'm just waiting for Apple to cave and go back to the old design. I'm locked to the old one and I can't get away from it. If I get away from it, then I hate using iOS. The old design is what made iOS unique and fun for me. Now the current design isn't special and makes the user experience stale after a short period of use. I can't stand this flat design trend that started up. For years I always thought that computers were trying to be more realistic, and Apple had a huge lead if we talk about that, but sadly that was squished when Microsoft invented Metro and Google went to flat design. Then Apple "Think Different" thought the same and went flat.

I start rambling about this and others start chiming in saying, "Well, textures and 3D elements are necessary anymore because everyone knows how to use their iPhone. They don't need optical illusions anymore." That's not the exact point of Skeuomorphic design. The design had a great experience and was very pleasing to the eyes. The design also took awhile to get stale for some people, but for me, I still love it and love the experience that comes with it. Sure it's just a design, but it comes with an experience that really does make a difference and really does impact how the device in your hand feels. I'll give you an example:

Last year while my iPhone 4S was my current iPhone. I was stuck on a botched iOS 7 version with an identity crisis that looked almost identical to iOS 6. It was super broken though, and half the system apps were broken and didn't work. Then In November, I found out about OdysseusOTA having the ability to downgrade iPhone 4S' to iOS 6.1.3. It was only on Mac though, but I luckily found a tutorial for using it on Windows. I didn't hesitate one second to download all the files and perform the downgrade the next day. The tool succeeded and iOS 6 burst to life. I ran though the setup and activated it, then installed some apps. When I did all of this, good grief, it felt like I had just got a brand new phone. It was super fast and the user experience was so great. It really showed how beautiful the iPhone 4S really was, and I wouldn't have minded to use it for another year, if Mom didn't offer to let me pick up an iPhone 6S before Christmas. I wanted to stick with iOS 6, but I didn't want to be stuck on 3G.

If the 2018 iPhone 8 is going to have the iPhone 4's design like it's rumored to have, then Apple really does need to revert back to the old design, because iOS 7+ doesn't look right on the iPhone 4 or 5 really.

It's hard to pass up this design.

Nah, thanks.

By that logic the iPhone 3G/5/6 should have had redesigns as well.
Likely the Iphone 8 will have the entire front glass as a curved display. This is the first time Apple has changed the shape of the display.

We're moving from a sharp rentangle(since inception) to a large rounded rectangle.

Wow, that's really beautiful! That's what iPhone's used to look like? I'm new to iOS, been an Android fangirl, rooting and rom'ing since my first smartphone (HTC Incredible). Got the 6S Plus just over a year ago but just couldn't adjust. Liked it enough to keep it but moved to the Nexus 6P when it was released. Just switched back to my iPhone few weeks ago because I was getting tired of messing with my phone and missed some things about the iPhone. What's keeping me here is the insane battery life. And it does "just work" as they say, I must admit.

iOS litterally used to be a perfectly functional piece of art.

I expect apple to keep going with a similar design, tweaking it here and there, they've got a solid base.

We need a fully landscape UI, Better 3D touch intergration, and colored themes (to match colored device, a golden UI would be insane!)

There are various widgets that provide similar type of functionality.

They just aren't the same, I also don't find the whole widget functionality/look as streamlined and nice as those buttons were.

So youre saying because a 4/5 year old phone doesnt look good with post ios7 design, Apple NEEDS to revert back to its pre-ios7 looks? HAHA because of Ancient iPhone models??

Why not? iPhone 8 is the 10th anniversary iPhone. If the rumors are true, and they are going to the iPhone 4's design, they should match iOS with it. If it's an anniversary, then they should really go all out and match everything to the time period, especially if this turns into a big tribute to Steve Jobs, which it probably will. I've said it once, I'll say it again. I hate iOS 7-10's UI and UX... It absolutely sucks! iOS 7+ just isn't fit for the iPhone 4's premium glass and metallic properties, it just doesn't work. This over-simplification period is getting a little out of hand.
Sometimes too simple is too far. I'm a person that still thinks this is a killer user experience even though this stuff is old:

I don't have a problem with the look and feel of iOS in general. Someone already mentioned notifications and that's an area apple cpuld improve in. Also I don't see this happening but it would be nice if control center was more customizable. I don't use airplay or do not disturb and it would be nice if I could add a shortcut to location services or some other system shortcut to replace them. Otherwise outside of minor app tweaks Apple is on the right path.

that makes no sense.

1) the new design is rumored to be very different from the 4/s design. (size/materials, specs)
2) just because 4/s worked with pre-ios7 design, doesnt mean iphone 8 will suit it.
3) If the looks of the OS are So important to you, then upgrade your phone if u think the new operating system looks ugly with your 5 year old phone:)
