Why exactly isn't it possible for Apple Pay to be added to another country without an iOS update? Didn't they just add it to some place recently with no update? I swear I read something about "Apple pay now available in xyz" not to long ago just on some random day. Maybe it was some new banking institution? Cant remember, but even so no OS update would be required I wouldn't think to add say Bank of XYZ.
It was a new banking institution, but as sunny has outlined previously in this thread, it requires new code for a new country, not a server side update.

Hmm so what about these? Were there iOS updates on each of these dates? Just doesn't make since to me they would have to create a new OS to support new banks everywhere as they are added. But stranger things exist I suppose.

The first one is irrelevant because thats more institution, as stated in my post, new institutions don't require an update.

Second one did indeed come out with iOS 9.3.3.

The third one launched with iOS 10.3.2. (The article you posted said coming soon for Italy, and it launched on May 17th, two days after 10.3.2 on May 15th).

So new countries have come with an update, new banks have not.

I'm curious as to why you are pressing me on this issue and not the one who has stated he works for a financial institution and originally made the claim about countries needing iOS updates.

Not pressing just asking. You said it was not possible. You seem to always be offended and defensive in any conversation with me no matter what the topic. I suppose I can just stop engaging with you at all. Sorry we cant seem to have a cordial conversation. I wont bother you again. Take care.

Oh and thanks for the clarification on the subject. I guess that explains it.

There was no defensiveness at all.. I simply stated I was curious as to why. I also didn't say it wasn't possible, I was repeating what someone stated 4 posts up. It just seemed odd to me as why you were asking me about it when someone here has stated they actually deal with this type of situation, so they would be better suited to field these types of questions. There wasn't anything non-cordial of what I said/asked/observed.

To sum it up:

Launching in a new country, requires an update to the OS. New banks don’t require an os update.

We have an interesting case over in Germany:

N26 (German bank) announces Apple Pay later this year for Spain and France. As the bank operates with German credit cards, they are unable to start in Spain and France.

So without an update to OS and launch in Germany they are not able to start in France/Spain.

Are you sure that they have to launch in Germany? My N26 card shows that it is an Austrian one, if I enter the first 6 digits of my N26 Mastercard card number here: https://binlist.net. I think the country has to be different because otherwise it would be declined in the App Store.

Otherwise N26 could have already started in France and Spain. N26 acts as a German Bank, with a German Banking license and German IBAN.

Nope, if Apple Pay is launched in Sweden on Tuesday next week, it will require a software update like 11.1. So, if there's going to be another beta, today or tomorrow is the day for it....
On the main page here, read carefully:

"Apple is gearing up to launch Apple Pay in Sweden next week, according to a report by Swedish site MacPro [Google Translate]. The site stated that the first financial partner with Apple Pay in Sweden will be the bank Nordea, and that the two companies will jointly announce the mobile wallet collaboration one week from today, on October 24."

I can only assume that when they say "launch", that they are referring to the announcement with an availability date soon after.....OEMs have done that before with other products or features.

We shouldn’t confuse a launch event with the service actually being made available.
