What exactly is it that you don’t understand?

This is beta software, not final iOS.

You’re obviously one of those who believes beta software is supposed to improve the latest release version before it goes final. Apple are testing all sorts of things with their beta software and you DECIDED to participate to TEST. Apple has not promised that 12.1.1 beta is more stable than 12.1 final.

Opt out of the beta program if you can’t accept this!
What he mentioned persists in 12.1 stable, and did in 12.0 release too! :)

We are now on iOS 12.1.1, so, by now, I would have thought Apple would have fixed what was supposed to be one of the main features of iOS 12 - Grouped Notifications. Also, my iPhone is on iOS 10, my iPad on the beta 12 programme. For the iPhone to show all notifications and the iPad to not, that's a big flaw when we're up to beta 12.1.1, would you not agree?

Yes, I decided to test the features. And I'm happy to do so, however, that does not mean I cannot comment on some of the more obvious things that are wrong. I am merely stating what is wrong and how Apple has lost its way over the years.

The errors I report back to Apple. They then hopefully take my comments, and all those of others, on board to try and fix the issues. I reported this issue a couple of betas back....................

Thank you, sir. I'm relieved to know I'm not the only logical thinking person :D

And Apple is probably doing all they can to sort it out—but demanding that it should be fixed in 12.1.1 beta 1 is ridiculous.

People moan about this all the time when trying beta—not fixed yet, new bugs, Apple sucks etc. etc.

It’s beta software and on the path to fix bugs Apple might need their testers to try things that might not be the final fix. Live with it or opt out.

I understand and agree with you that people should not expect betas being bug-free, but having issues and glitches as old as iOS 10 is ridiculous.

I have yet to test any improvement but I will soon when I go for lunch and drive around later.

If you don’t mind me asking, how are LTE speeds & reliability for you since you installed 12.1.1?

But 12.0.1 is not a beta. It's a full on release to the general public. Some of whom have paid over £ / $ 1,000 for their device. They would not like errors on a device they use for everyday stuff. Maybe even for business. If I bought a car, and the speedo was out by 5+ mph / kmh, and I then got nabbed for speeding by that amount, I would be too happy with the points on my licence.

Likewise, someone were to send me an important email or message, which then didn't show on my phone and I lost out on a business deal... or goodness forbid an emergency situation..........

I hope you get my point.

Nobody should blame you for being upset about bugs in the general release of 12.0.1. But this item is for discussing beta software, and while we get your repeatedly made point it’s not clear that you get our point that beta software comes with risks—even for people who paid over $1000 or even $1,000,000 for their device. If you depend on your phone to receive an important email or message and don’t want to worry about losing out on a business deal, then opt out of the beta program.

What you write proves that you should’nt be testing beta software. Beta software is not for people who need bug fixes for released software. It’s for helping Apple to test.

Here’s an issue that I’m getting on my iPhone and iPad. Go into an iMessage thread and type out the word “didn’t”. It red underlines the “didn” part. It also happens with words like “shouldn’t”.

While I have seen this previously, now on the current beta I’m not seeing it. Contractions are showing as they should.

Main page MacRumirs, 12.1.1 beta, there were some bugs left unreeolved in 12.1. and anytime new features which there are are introduced there's new ones.

Ever since iis 9 it's been .3 when the version us finally as bug free as it's going to get. Not that anything is perfect. Security issues do come along.

12.1 fixed enough overwhelming serious fixes and needed to get out there, support for XR and carriers and heaven knows what along with support new IPP model. But more time and work and bugs still existed.

Basically, every new build is beta.

My goodness, bugs galore still on 1.1!!!

Firstly, when going in to update, as soon as I click on software update in General, the software starts to download straight away. Normally I'd need to select to download. Anyone else having this?

Also, grouped notifications - horrific! Some notifications are grouped together. But then the same app also has some of them not grouped together! Then there are the missing notifications - e.g. on my iPhone, which is on 10.2, I'll have 15 email notifications, but on the iPad I'll only have 5!

Come on Apple, what has gone wrong with the "it just works" moto!!! Because right now, it just does not work!!!

If you want all notifications from a single app grouped together, you have to change Notification Grouping from "Automatic" to "By App;" otherwise, the phone will group iMessages from a single contact together, for example, but not all iMessage notifications.

And I haven't been missing notifications, so perhaps this is a personal issue instead of a universal one.

I have no idea if this is new behavior, but if you tap a link that opens a new tab, you can swipe from the left of the screen to close the tab and go to the previous page. Pretty sure it’s new. If not on this beta, definitely on iOS 12.0

I don't know if you write or work in software or not, but that's absolutely not the point of a beta. Although betas usually have documented 'known bugs' the goal with betas is to gather feedback/bug reports about new functionality and to also test whether or not previous bugs marked as fixed are indeed fixed for the majority of users. Regressions do happen, but should be addressed quickly. Betas for major releases (12.0) are obviously going to have more bugs because of more features/performance improvements, etc. But a point release like this shouldn't be so buggy.

Been that way since iOS 11 I believe.

Why do you think they made a public beta available? To get more feedback on bugs. The whole point of beta software is to fix bugs.
One of the reasons of beta software is to fix bugs, but there are other reasons as well, like Apple testing new under the hood features that we never know of and that can cause new bugs etc. etc.

My point is that people who depend on their phones and experience bugs in release software shall live with the bugs until another, new, release version is out. Installing a beta hoping that bugs in a released version are fixed in beta 1 is crazy since the beta could introduce even more bugs which needs to be sorted out in several later betas until a new release version can be rolled out.

.... and we wonder why it takes "brand S" longer to get the next version out. Yes, Apple has over 80% users on iOS 12. And it'll be a good while until 12 is final. Or that they make it so new phone hardware and features are rolled out at same time.

You completely missunderstood what I wrote. What I was referring to is that many people tend to install iOS beta just as if it’s final versions fixing a problem that they have. Then they complain that their ”1000 $ phone has this and that bug”—Apple sucks! etc.

Beta software is for testing—not reliable fixes for people who needs their ”1000 $ phone” on daily basis.

Is battery life on 12.1.1 better than 12.1?
No. I find it worse.

I have faced another issue- the Settings > Notifications > Mail > Favourite Folders > *Lock Screen, Notification Centre, Banners* get deactivated automatically after few hours. One has to reopen and reactivate.
