iOS 12.1.1 Beta 1 ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

I'm going to make this my final post to you in relation to this matter - I have an iPhone and iPad. My iPhone is not on beta as it's my daily user, therefore no chance I'd risk a beta on it. My iPad is purely for fun and games, and therefore it has the beta on there.

I provide all my findings to apple to assist them in resolving issues. Re. the groupings debacle, I have reported this from the first beta. As I'm sure have many other thousands of folk.

I absolutely appreciate that things cannot get fixed straight away, but a final release to the general public should have had grouped notifications working from the off. Let's give apple some slack, they didn't get it right first time round. Fair do's, stuff happens. They try again. Whoops! Nope still not fixed. OK. Apple ain't what they used to be. They need another chance. Oh! No, bother! Here I am on here posting my quibbles about grouped notifications on 12.1.1!

CyberVisitor, in my place of work, this would be wholly unacceptable, as it would be in most other businesses.

I have nothing against you mate, but I hope you can understand where I'm coming from.

And I haven't been missing notifications, so perhaps this is a personal issue instead of a universal one.

Thanks mate. I have my settings as you described above. But still no luck.

I'll wait for the next beta and see if that fixes things. Although not too optimistic as I've had this issue from day 1.
 
I have a weird issue on last several beta's, safari does not always follow links.
For example, if I search with Google I get results, next I click a link and the page does not load, refresh the link and it loads, if I go back one page I get a blank page, even if I click back again and again the page stays white, going forward does the same.
It's Safari, downloaded another (Opera) browser and all works out.
Anyone has similar behaviour, I think it started on 12.1 beta's, on a Xs.
Any suggestions?

Notifications are grouped fine on my iPhone XS Max. I also know that a lot of other people don’t have a problem with grouped notifications. Sad that you’re one of a few with bad luck in this matter.

You’re right that ”Apple ain't what they used to be”. They have evolved massively and are performing top notch! Better and better year after year and years and years to come. I’ve bought my first Mac 1989 and have been lucky enough to own half of every product Apple ever created so I know for sure that ”Apple ain't what they used to be” but even better.

Wow, just ran a speed test on this beta and got 167 Mbps download and 19 upload. Never had LTE that fast.

Duplicated the results several times over the period of an hour.

Installed the beta about 2 hours ago.
 
Hotspot has decided to stop working on this beta, tried rebooting, resetting network settings, forgetting networks, and it won’t connect to iPad (just stays spinning on connection) or to Android (stays on obtaining IP address).

Looks like I’m going to have to revert to 12.1 and just use the phone as a single sim phone for now.

Anybody using Verizon Wireless on iPhone Xs or Xs Max and have no eSIM loaded?
When you go to cellular settings, can you find the screen that was there on older models of phone to select roaming: voice only, voice and data, international CDMA?

I can't find that on my phone at 12.1.1 beta 1 with one eSIM loaded (even if turned off). I can't remember if I ever had this setting available in 12.0 or 12.1, so I'm trying to figure out if this is a behavior of the dual-SIM phones, or something new in 12.1/12.1.1

I'm looking for ways to prevent roaming (and the charges) on the VZW service when traveling, that would be the normal way to do it.

  • After upgrading to iOS 12.1.1 beta, you might be unable to select the voice used for VoiceOver and other Speech products
Remaining Issues
  • Lock screen orientation glitch in the Control Center: If you have screen orientation lock enabled, and then change the state of "Increase Contrast" in Settings, for example enable it, your lock orientation icon will be fully white instead of red. Video: Here
  • Lock screen lock disappears: Swipe on the lockscreen for a few times, after some time, your lock status will disappear. Video: Here. If you happen to reproduce it while your phone is unlocking, you will get something like this, the notifications will get glitched.
  • Some apps like Google Maps and Clash Royale will lag on iPhone X and above: Open the affected app, for example Google Maps. Do not do anything else, just minimize your brightness to the lowest. Now, you will see the app's FPS number has been drastically decreased, try to do circles in the map, you will see it is laggy. To make it smooth again, you can: A) Start screen recording or B) Increase brightness.
  • Folder in Dock bug - swipe to widgets and then back to home screen: it will blink. Video: Here
  • Notification bugs:
    • Grouped notifications glitch - Expand, collapse and then expand again a grouped notification quickly, it will have a glitchy animation. Video: Here
    • Notification Center bug: If you have a grouped notification in the notification center, make sure to delete till you have only one, then click the X next to the app and not the one next to "Notification Center". It will result in a glitch - Video: Here
    • Notification center missing background: Lock and unlock your phone. Then open an app, and quickly pull down the notification center. It won't have background for a few seconds.
    • If you have enough notifications to hide the time, then scroll down-up few times, the notifications will get glitched with the time. After you collapse the notifications, there will be a glitchy animation. Video: Here
  • On an iPhone X, XS, and XS Max, if your home screen have multiple pages, go to a different page other than main, then swipe up to get to your main page. After you quickly want to open anything in the Dock, you can't, you need to wait a few seconds to be able to do it. Video: Here
  • Lock screen time & lock status glitch: using your locked iPhone, swipe from right to left two times quickly. For the second swipe, your time and lock status will disappear. Video: Here
  • Landscape mode control center bug: Open anything in landscape mode, for example a YouTube video in full screen. Open your Control Center, swipe from right to left, then close CC. There will be a stuck bar at the top of your screen for a few seconds. Video: Here
  • App crash bug: Open the app switcher. Tap on an app, swipe it up to close, but while its closing tap on it - > glitchy crash. Video: Here
  • Adding the first widget in the available widgets list will have a glitchy animation. Video: Here
  • Safari: "add to home screen" - when there is just one home screen, it does not show the recently added icon. It does create a 2nd home screen page but when you swipe left the icon is missing. After a reboot or waiting for several minutes, the icon may appear.
  • Since iOS 11.4 still can’t initiate ‘album’ playback via Siri on the watch with music that is locally stored on phone.
  • When iCloud Keychain and text replacements are enabled, text replacement won’t be offered anymore when trying to login. The specific text replacement is overwritten with “Password”.
  • iMessage app sort order resets after a period of time from custom order to default order.
  • When tapping the “i” button for info in a message thread of someone who you share your location with (or vice versa) the photos are very glitchy to load and you always get sent to the bottom of the list after trying to scroll up.
  • In Messages: using 3D Touch to Peak and Pop, or when rotating the screen orientation turns the iMessage app strip black (iPhone 7 only)
  • Sometimes, if you have no SIM inserted, you will see an old time to appear at the top of the screen. Video: Here
  • Opening app switcher in landscape mode will sometimes show old stuff that you did with the app before. Video: Here
  • On the home screen, scrolling to the second page, swiping up then holding the screen will cause the second page to disappear. Video: Here
  • Lockscreen blocking bug: Get to the passcode request page, then swipe up and down while not releasing the screen - this will cause the first line (1, 2, 3) to be unresponsive. Video: Here (I typed 1 to show that it was working)
Resolved Issues
  • Text in the home bar in apps such as WhatsApp, FB Messenger and MyFitnessPal will glitch when swiping between screens causing the text to become closer together

  • If you experience Setting crashes, it may be due to removal of stock apps.

So it’s safe to say some people are experiencing improvements with the 12.1.1 with LTE etc. obviously some are not.
 
Anyone else notice that when the brightness is automatically adjusting on occasion it will jump brightness levels instead of increasing or decreasing smoothly?

Never really got into using these apps much. These results all seem like they are “within the margin of error” being so close.

Yep. In the same message it didn't happen for "didn't" but did for "shouldn't".
Tried the reboot ... comes and goes. Gotta luv inconsistent bugs. ;)

This is not a bug ... its a feature ... this kicks in for me every once in a while.

This is the "feature id": SignificantOtherRemovesCreditCardsFromPhoneToPreventShoppingAndSaveMoney
