Just experienced another instance of the “black screen” bug. Tapping a Messages notification took me to a completely-black Messages app. Had to force close and relaunch to get things working again.

Initial speed tests are ... lame ... I hate to say it.

I am convinced though that the phone needs time to figure things out.

Initial impressions though ... not so good ... 12.1.2.B1 was way better.

Phone Details: XS - Verizon - USA - 12.1.3 Beta 2

I am going to have to retract the above.

It has been a day, I have driven around some, been on WiFi, off WiFi. I have been really pleasantly surprised.

My go to 3G test point failed me - kind of. I actually got LTE at that spot :) I even browsed this forum while I was there :) Super surprised! With Modem 1.03.02 (12.1.2 Beta 1) at that spot it went to 3G and fairly reliable. With 1.03.05 (12.1.3 Beta 2) - I am now LTE. My Qualcomm iPhone 7 would get 3G. My upload speeds have also been nicely bumping up where it is now a rare occasion that it is less than my iPhone 7. (My XS downloads have generally been 2X-3X+ of my iPhone 7 from the start.)

Fingers crossed I don't retract this in a day ;)

I think we‘re on a state, apple dont give a **** about ios 12 anymore. They wanted it to be stable for older devices, but the newer ones will really improve with ios 13. I think all future ios 12 updates are just for bug fixing, no new features. They save everything for 13.

I think its hardware they would of fixed it ages ago the new phones have bad antennas

I live in NJ and am always in NYC. Never had issues with speed or signal on my XS Max. I'm on Verizon.

I disagree that's it's a universal hardware problem, if so would EVERY body have issues? My wife and I both have never had issues with our Tmobile Max's.

I must be missing something, because I haven’t noticed any signal / data performance issues on my Xs Max with T-Mobile. From what I remember of the X and past phones, this is the same or better. And that’s anecdotal, I haven’t tested actual numbers. I literally don’t feel a difference. I’m on 12.1.2 right now.

Am I the only one?

Day 2

Went back to my go to 3G spot at work - it was 3G. I was however, texting and surfing and humming along. I have received increased download rates that I have never prior at various locations.

I am convinced at least from an LTE perspective this phone just needs a day or two to get the "lay of the land" and then it will adapt accordingly.

It took Apple a few months to figure out his 4x4 MIMU design, but I think they got it with this beta.

Based on iOS 12 being out for all of 3 months?

I’m glad things are better for you. However unfortunately this hasn’t been the case for me. Still waiting on a fix or anything official from apple. Can barely use this phone when not on WiFi.

I actually thing he is on to something and agree that we won’t see much in the way of additional feature adds between now and June. There may be some minor stuff but there’s no Airplay2, ApplePay Cash, or iMessage in the Cloud hanging out there for delayed deployment. I could see something related to Apple’s original video content or the magazine /newspaper offering based on Texture. Those could be deployed like Apple Music was in 9.4.

That's still somewhat different than just Apple not having a care in the world when it comes to iOS 12.

Decided to give the beta a try on my Xs, have discovered it’s killed the Instant Hotspot in the phone, I’ve checked with two iPads and neither show the Instant Hotspot, activating normal Hotspot works (the iPhone shows up amongst the Wi-Fi networks in a scan).

I’ve reset network settings on the phone (and iPad just to be sure), but still nothing...

No problem with my instant hotspot on my XS.

Same for me along with Universal Clipboard and Safari Handoff from Mac to iPhone (works the other way). All other Continuity features work as intended.

No problem with my instant hotspot on my XS.

Rolled the iPad Pro back to iOS 12.1.1 and the Instant Hotspot feature reappeared like magic. Looks like it’s the beta on the iPad that kills Instant Hotspot rather than on the phone.

On IPhone Xs. Occasional but frequent lag in receiving data both cellular and wifi. Also had this problem with 12.1.2 as well. Also, when I traveled to Mexico, couldn't receive LTE reception. My wife who had 12.1.1 both had full LTE signal.

Ios 12 has become a mess the main reason we use phones cant even work after 3 months

Dan: Didn't you return your phone? Did that not fix the issue?
It did for a while and has come back, im on latest 12.1.2 i spoke with apple and said whats going on and they said it is something they are awake of and that it's conflicting with E sum even tho i dont have one, its bad its taking this long for a fix
