So far seems just as smooth and solid as beta 5 on the iPhone XS. All my apps are working just as fine as beta 5. Haven't spotted any changes yet.

Now that was interesting ... Kind of a B5 / B6 thing.

IPP G2
Rebooted IPP
Checked if OTA was available (it was)
Checked to see if on 5 or 2.4 system - was on 2.4 so switched to 5 (that is a B5 problem :()
Went back to General / Software Update and the system was doing the download without choosing that option ...

GM is next week.
Not to be nit-pickety, but there are no GM's for point releases. This probably is the release version (or close to it) and they'll just strip the beta designation out of the build number.

This is weird. After every beta version I’ve installed, the little box would pop up after the installation/reboot finishes saying I’ve updated the iOS. But not this time. This time, no box popped up. Kind of strange.

The "GM" build is the release build, so yes, there are GMs for point releases.

The update screen doesn't always appear, it's a bit hit or miss.

I wouldn't call the point release a GM but a RC (Release Candidate) build. Normally, GM is used for major release like iOS 11, 12 etc.

It is possible we may get this release (build number without an alphabet at the end) before the general public this week.

There are Golden Masters for the major releases. There is no such designation for point releases, regardless of whether a particular release is a Release Candidate or simply becomes the final. People keep waiting for a "GM" designation and they're not going to see it on a point release.

Still the same issue in wifi - did a reboot 3x now from different points in my house and each time it links to the 2.4 system instead of the 5.
Point 1 - same room 12 feet away
Point 2 - one floor down 15 feet away as the crow flies
Point 3 - one floor up other side of the house about 25 feet away.

Same issue with B5
8+ on 12.1.4 does not exhibit this behavior.

I agree.

An RC build is a build that is a candidate for final release (hence the name, Release Candidate). It is still a beta, but the company developing the software feels that it may be suitable for release, and goes through a final phase of testing.

If the RC is determined to be of a high enough quality it becomes a GM (or RTM, depending on the company and what they call their releases. You can even call it a final release if you want. They're all terms for the same thing).

tl;dr, an RC is still technically a beta. GM is the term for the build that is released to the public. It can be a fresh build, or it can be the same as an RC build. There can be a few RC builds before one is designated GM (or RTM, or final, your choice, it's just words for the same thing).

There are Golden Masters for the major releases. There is no such designation for point releases, regardless of whether a particular release is a Release Candidate or simply becomes the final. People keep waiting for a "GM" designation and they're not going to see it on a point release.
The build that becomes the final (also known as GM) release is almost always a RC (Release Candidate) prior to rebadging.

The timeline of development and testing is: Alpha > Beta > RC > GM.

How do you determine which band it connects to?

Woah well my Xs didn’t like that one (it ended up OK though).

After the first reboot (no progress bar) the phone just shut down (didn’t kick off the first progress bar). I powered it on by holding the side button. It booted to a progress bar that took a solid 15 minutes. After the progress bar completed it rebooted normally.

Very odd, never had that happen before. Nothing bad happened, the update took and seems to be running fine now, just an unusual process.

I have them named - XXXXX and XXXXX-5
All I need to do is look into Settings>WiFi and can see which.

Does your router has some sort of Smart Connect that automatically switch band based on device signal strength? I normally have Smart Connect on and use the same WiFi name on 2.4 & 5Ghz that allows the device to roam to a better band. I find it a pain to let the device choose between 2.4/5Ghz that it may not connect to the appropriate band if there are two saved/different SSID so I use one SSID for both bands.

If you remove Auto-join or forget the 2.4 band, you may lose the extended coverage it provides.

Just disable auto join for your 2.4ghz. That’s what I did.

It does not hence the two named bands. The IPP on both B5 and now B6 seems to always select the 2.4 even though it is the slowest of the two. Speed wise my 2.4 generally tops out around 50mb and the 5 around 300mb.

My wifi gives me 5.0 when I'm closer like in the house always, but if I walk outside it tends to switch to 2.4. as I get further away from it. Working as it should I believe.

How much takes for iOS to index ? I made a DFU install yesterday and the phone it’s very slow and it’s stuttering a lot ..

I would suggest to try one SSID again to see if it will improve. Even though the router does no have the Smart Connect feature, it is still possible the IPP would prefer to connect to the better band under the same WiFi name.
