9to5 have only been posting beta updates before they release after they hired Rambo, who use to post on Twitter about beta releases before release, no coincidence there.

True. But it must be somewhat implicitly sanctioned by Apple as they’d block every IP address they could think for either 9-5 or Rambo if not

As an app developer, you can submit beta issues for your app with Apple. Apple then lets you know about the issue maybe being fixed, on the latest beta, asking you to verify it - essentially giving a heads up that the beta is coming.
My guess is Rambo might always have an app that he files issues for with the beta versions, but just a guess.

I don't think they tell you when the beta update is coming though.

I am on developer beta 12.1.3. I just saw beta 4 is out. I went to software updates and just saw that 12.1.3 is in the process of preparing update, before install. I do not have automatic updates turned on. Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Why would it be reinstalling beta 3?
Iphone 6

After installing and checking for updates, it is showing 12.1.3 is up to date and not offering 12.1.4 beta.

Thanks

It's possible the OTA description text was wrong since it wasn't the first time it happened. If you updated, have you check Settings>General>Version to the match beta 4 build number 16D5039a?

You are correct, it says 12.1.3 (16D5039a). So this is really beta 4? If so why was it automatically installing when I have automatic updates off? I had gotten up, plugged the phone into the charger a couple of hours previously and checked this site to see that beta 4 was available, it was then that I realized it had downloaded already and was preparing update for install. Also at that point, it was not showing the beta 4 on the preparing update screen, I could only see 12.1.3.

My stupid mistake, apparently is is 12.1.3 beta 4 and not 12.1.4. Apparently it is behaving like automatic updates are turned on, though. Do you have any idea why? Maybe a bug? I double checked my settings, also.

Thanks

Automatic updates have never worked for me so I'm not surprised to hear that it's doing its own thing on someone else. That is a little unsettling though, considering some people are sticklers for staying on certain firmware versions.
