Final Monday and 12.2 Tuesday count my word
What's the point of something like "count my word" when it's all "just banter and having fun" and things just get changed pretty much continuously and frequently sometimes in completely opposite direction?

There's speculating, and then there's whatever all of that is.

The HomePod being released in China this week might point to a release this week, the language support is already there but may need other updates

With the 12.2 update not even on the horizon yet what effect do you all think this will have on a 12.3 release. This iOS 12 release cycle seems far behind the normal trends.

Two betas close to each other, on a x.x.X beta, usually means they are wrapping it up. Release next wednesday at the latest. 12.2 beta next day.

Pure speculation, no sources :)

I would throw out past beta paths as being useful as predictors for iOS 12. Or, maybe more accurately, the 12.1.x releases have served the same purposes as the x.1 and x.2 releases for earlier versions. The x.3 releases have always been a bit more feature-rich than the x.1 and x.2 releases. I’m somewhat expecting that 12.2 will be the relatively feature-rich release in this sequence. And 12.3 may be just more refinements - if there even is a 12.3.

iOS 12 has been far more trouble-free than past releases. We may just need so many updates.

My iPhone 7 Plus is completely stable right now. I can't think of any issues at all. This is the first era in a while where I'm not hoping for updates every day.

iOS 12 is also likely the end of this design. So why waste the time and effort to incorporate more features into it? Put those features directly into iOS 13. iOS 6 stopped at 6.1.x. Everything new came in iOS 7. I would be shocked if we got a 12.3, let alone 12.4.

And even with iOS 7 things didn't get past 7.1.

The thread has been cleaned up and is now open.

We need to put a stop to the issues that precipated the clean up.

First please provide source material to back up a claim, the so called insider knowledge was one cause of the derailment.
  1. Sources. If you claim that something's a fact, back it up with a source. If you can't produce evidence when someone asks you to cite your sources, we may remove your posts. If you started the thread, then we may remove or close the thread.

Secondly we do not permit members attacking, flaming or belittling other members. Discuss the topic, respect other members, stop with the taunting.
Respect

Guidelines: Show respect for your fellow posters. Expect and accept that other users may have strongly held opinions that differ from yours. In other words, basic human courtesy.

Rules:
  1. Name-calling. Name-calling falls into the category of insults and will be treated as such according to the forum rules, your own opinion about another member notwithstanding. You can't call a bigot a bigot, a troll a troll, or a fanboy a fanboy, any more than you can call an idiot an idiot. You can disagree with the content of another member's statement or give your evidence or opinion to dispute their claims, but you may not make a negative personal characterization about that member.
  2. Insults. Slurs and insults against groups of people based on negative-stereotyping and obvious generalizations fall into the category of trolling and will be treated as such.
  3. Taunting. Mocking or taunting another forum member is not acceptable. Posts that ridicule another member or obviously exaggerate or misstate their views may be removed.

The issues is thread have caused an undo amount of time and effort for the moderation team and baby sitting one thread is not in the best interest with such a large and active site. That means that if the problems continue people will be banned from the thread or worse, the thread will be locked

I think the reason iOS 6 and 7 stopped where they did was that in “the old days”, features were mostly held for the major releases and minor (point) releases were for fixes primarily

In recent years, however, both Apple and Microsoft have tended more towards iterative releases, with major features still coming with the major releases but other, less significant, features being released throughout the cycle. That takes pressure off the Apple developers to have all the features done for WWDC each year.

iOS 12 however is what I would view as a “mezzanine” release: it exists to provide the Apple developers time to catch up on all the odds and ends they’ve put off over the years. So it may not fit this pattern the same way, despite being an absolutely essential release.

So I agree that we probably won’t see much more in the way of features prior to iOS 13. However the one feature that we might see in iOS 12.2, as was suggested over in the Maps thread, is the release of the updated Maps data and POI layers, at least here in the US. There have been some hints of new data appearing in recent weeks and that may make some sense (and, yes, I know that these are server based changes, but it may still be a good time to roll them out).

I'm not sure of a quick GM with 12.1.3.

It seems to me that they still have some eSIM problems and freezing keyboard problems to work out first.

The new battery case is coming this week. So maybe an iOS update is needed for that.
That's a good point. Rambo pointed out in a tweet last night (https://twitter.com/_inside/status/1085285340984815616) that he found graphics of the power cases in the WatchOS beta, so it does make some sense that they are released together (iOS 12.1.3. Watch OS 5.1.3, the power cases and *possibly* Airpower).

Thank you, Mike, for stepping in here.

Now its up to all of us to keep this thread clean and focus on useful speculation. Before you post, think about whether what you are posting advances the topic of this thread or is just more static.
