So iOS 12.2 is definitely coming next week. The newly released AirPods require iOS 12.2, macOS 10.14.4 and watchOS 5.2 (according to Apple's website). Since the AirPods delivery date is 3/27-3/29 the software release will probably be Monday after the Apple event or Tuesday.

This is probably the final release already. Last years iPad came preloaded with the same build as the last beta, minus the beta version tidbits. Chances are the new iPads are already preloaded with this build.

I was thinking that we might have a public release today since it would be good for Apple to have the iOS already released when the new AirPods now begin to ship out to customers.
On the other hand, it could be that next weeks event has something that is built into iOS 12.2 and hence won’t be released until after the event takes place. BUT what comes on Monday could also be related to services released in separate downloadable apps on Monday.
We’ll have to wait and see.

AirPods won't get delivered before 3/27 at the earliest, so Apple has plenty of time to release 12.2 after the event on Monday. I'm sure it'll contain lots more code re: the new video and news services.

I’m not expecting the new services to launch next week. This is more of a preview. Apple Music was previewed in a March event and didn’t launch until June 30.

My AirPods will be delivered 3/26 AM wich is late 3/25 California time.
Besides that, you could be right.

We will almost undoubtedly see it drop on Monday after the Keynote. Normal time, even if the new services are not ready. For one, I think the News service will be ready to go then. Participant names (WSJ but not NYT or Wash Post) are leaking now.

My bad. By the time I ordered mine, I got the 27-29 delivery window so I wasn't aware of an earlier one. I imagine then we will see the updates on Monday after the event.

This beta doesn't feel like a final in my opinion.
No ios build ever feels like final there are always issues but its a lot better than 12.1.4 i still have call failures but now ive accepted its the phones hardware and i cant do anything about it

We've been there dozens of times. I remember the 2018 iPad launch and how everyone said "yeah they'll surely push out a fixed build with the iPads" and then they ended up shipping with the same beta build we had and cried about.

I'll stand by my bet, this is the final build that ships after the event (or a day or two after, in time for the new hardware).

Agree. And it will be tomorrow. Delivery times for 2nd gen AirPods for some are showing delivery tomorrow and they require 12.2.

Take it to the bank.

Does anyone know if the current betas have the new watch band colors? I think that would be the indicator we might get a slightly updated build. 12.1.4 does not have the new band colors.

Can't wait for what will happen. One more beta or the final version?
I'm just not sure why you (or others) think there would be one more beta? The event is today (and quite likely the updated News app will go live immediately after), AirPods (2nd Gen) will be delivered starting tomorrow, and there is a possibility that the TV app will get something (though unlikely). I just don't see another beta. The only question is whether the final will be delivered today or tomorrow. Given the AirPods arrival on doorsteps tomorrow, possibly first thing in the morning, and the fact that 12.2 is necessary for the "Hey Siri" functionality to work, there's no way Apple is going to be in a situation where the Airpods lack key functionality for the first few hours of their use. Can you imagine the headlines?

12.2 will drop shortly after today's event concludes.

Beta 6 for me introduced some issues for cellular signal capture with my XS Max.

Usually it was the Xfinity Mobile physical SIM that lost signal, but sometimes it was the T-Mobile eSIM.

If there is a GM release the next day or so, then I can only hope that Beta 6 included an experiment with cellular signal capture, and that they know to eliminate it for the GM, since Beta *5* was stable (for me) with cellular signal.

In all fairness, there have been several times in which a new functionality isn’t active when a product ships. Most recently, ECG in the Series 4. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if 12.2 drops tomorrow at 10am, instead of today at 12:30-1pm. A couple hours without “Hey Siri” is by no means that outrageous to cause outrage.
