But I guess it’s equally as possible that beta 5 would have been 2 weeks instead of 1 week if they didn’t mess up beta 2. No? Obviously we can’t prove it either way but food for thought.

No way to prove it hence the fun in speculating. I'd imagine they target release version over date though. It's much easier to stick with a "we're going weekly on beta 5" vs "we're going weekly on August 6th" because if a beta slips that date gets pushed, but a version is a version is a version. Just my thoughts on the matter.

If I am not wrong, developers receive 1 beta ahead of the public. So they (Developers) received today Beta 5 while we (Public) received Beta 4.

Public is numbered lower because PB1 was released alongside Dev beta 2. However they are the same build, the public beta has just had one fewer releases as they did not get the first one.

Yeah, this is what I was trying to get across but didn’t explain fully.

Another way to think of it is... IF they do plan beta release schedules, it’s more likely they do something like (dates loosely based on 11 but just an example):

Beta 1 - 1st June
Beta 2 - 15th June (14 days later)
Beta 3 - 29th June (14 days)
Beta 4 - 13th July (14 days)
Beta 5 - 27th July (14 days)
Beta 6 - 3rd August (7 days)
Etc.

And then if after beta 2 they had to spend an unexpected week sorting it out, the following release dates simply got pushed back a week, retaining the gaps between each beta release.

However what Mlrollin91 was suggesting is that the planning, if there is any, might be based on the actual release date, so something like:

“Betas released in June and July will be out for 14 days and the first beta released in August will be out for 7 days before a follow up.”

Such a rule meant iOS 11 beta 5 was that first August beta, so we only had 7 days before the next beta, but would mean for iOS 12 - because there was no disruption earlier in the schedule - that it won’t be till beta 6 that that happens. But that sort of planning just seems... weird.

Now, there may be other types of plans to consider, but also the plan could just be quite loose, adapting to challenges in development, testing, live issues, and so on, so it could be that comparing year on year makes no sense!

Plus, I’ve confused myself a bit writing thiso_O

Just an FYI, and I added to the thread.. but latest PB has bug where images on Lightning/SD card reader are not recognized. I have submitted a Bug Report.

Not strictly speaking an iOS 12 speculation, but I am guessing we will get a new update of Shortcuts to play with in the next week (frankly, I thought we'd have one by now...)

So far this has been the best Beta I've ever used on an iPad and iPhone. MOST of the time I can't tell I'm using a Beta version. There has been just a few bugs and a few apps not functioning properly, but these are minor things for a beta.

Whats the latest speculation on the release of the next Public Beta and dose anyone think the new 'Shortcuts' App will be included?

I really hope for Shortcuts! I’d like that more than a new iOS beta at this point!

You and me both, really looking forward to spending time setting up useful Shortcuts for SIRI.

Are we officially on a weekly cycle now? Meaning do we expect a new beta today?
I'd say there's a good chance. We're pretty far into the beta cycle at this point and I think the more betas they push to the public testers the better. I have high hopes for iOS 12 so I'm rooting for beta 6 today even though I'm firmly planted on 11.4.1.

What iPhone model do you have? The Beta 5 on iPhone X 256GB has been quite good. Stable with a few bugs, the phone did restart a couple of times when using certain Apps but other than that it has been fantastic. But of course I can't speak for everyone, but the general consensus seems to be its fairly stable. Beta 6 ought to be even better.

If you're looking for ShortCuts I hope you're successful. But my suspicion is that it will not be released with any of the iOS betas. It is possible that it will be released on its own public beta.

But, as I've said a number of times before here: don't sit waiting for it if you want to try it out. Use Workflow instead. They are virtually the same app at this point in time and if you are new to the whole WorkFlow/Shortcuts universe, you can learn it just as well by building Workflows right now, as most of the new stuff has not yet been added to the beta version of Shortcuts that's out there right now.

Ok, I was hoping for something a little different than Workflow. I've used that App ever since it was released, but to be honest I rarely use any workflows, just a few now and again. But I have setup a few Shortcuts already using Workflow and they have preform quite well. The only thing I don't like about Workflow is when you trigger a workflow the app opens and runs the workflow. I'd love to see tasks be preform behind the scenes, if you get what I mean.
