Thursdays are a common release day for iOS so potentially something tomorrow. I suspect they are working on the Intel drivers for the Xs and XsM to address the wifi/cellular connectivity issues.

Yes. Since iOS 7 it’s been the week after the public release. So there is now an “expectation” on our part for Apple to deliver small bug fixes shortly after the public release of a X.0 builds.

I totally get where you are coming from, but I feel like an iOS update messing up screen calibration is a giant can of worms going forward. Doesn’t sound fun.. My primary concern is those with screens that don’t want it to be changed in anyway.
As Apple continues to keep showing us, potential historical patterns or not, expect the unexpected. ;)

That may be so, but there is still an expectation that they have set on the consumer because of that precedent. Just as when the 'Head of Retail' took over at Apple, she said that Apple has set expectations in the consumer's mind and they need to live up to that expectation.

I'm not sure that that is the type of expectation as some others are. I doubt there would be pretty much any kind of a noticeable reaction one way or another if there isn't an update released a week after the initial x.0 release. (In a sense those type of updates actually create more of a reaction when they come out so quickly where people use them to say how supposedly sloppy/bad Apple is if they had to release an update so quickly). That said, I guess everyone has their take on it all.

I'd say this expectation is to the < 5% of users who pay attention to when updates arrive. Most of my friends and family don't even know iOS12 is released yet, let alone that it was in beta all summer. They just wait for that little red 1 to appear in the settings app and then ignore it for weeks or months. Updates are something most people actually find frustrating.

They will probably release 12.0.1 in 2 hours or tomorrow, to address some other bugs and this one. I don't think that they will leave public with passcode bypass for 4 more days, especially when news circulate in this websites and youtube.

only if apple has the fixes ready and has done enough testing on them to release a 12.0.1 update. hopefully this is the case this week still!

I could be not recalling something correctly, but I believe "worse" bypasses were around for longer periods of time in the past.

I think this one was unexpected. They have thousands of software engineers though. I am sure that they can fix and test this one in less that 24h. Especially if Mr.Cook gets mad. They could also release a fix for this one + the fixes of other small bugs that they already tested and leave the rest "not so tested" for 12.0.2.

Having more engineers doesn't make things go quicker necessarily when it comes to many aspects of software/hardware lifecycle. "Not so tested" can also result in something even worse in one shape or another.

Why is there always this assumption that just because an issue appears "small" in someones eyes, it takes literally minutes to fix. The tiniest change could have massive knock-on effects.
This 100%. One line of code can cause a huge snowball affect. I know Apple is pretty good with compartmentalization of code, so thats less likely of a problem, but this is Niantic's downfall with Pokemon Go. Every time they fix one thing, 5 more things break. Their code is so disorganized.

I seriously hope we get 12.1 beta 2 today, now that I've seen comparison of how dull and washed out the colors are with 12/12.1b1 I can't undo what I've seen.

We won't get beta 2 today, but still possibly 12.0.1.

If anything, beta 2 might not be until 2 weeks from now so that macOS and iOS can get in-sync with each other. Or macOS beta 1 will only be one week.

Yeah my gut feeling tells me we won't be seeing b2 for another week or two, let's hope 12.0.1 drops today at least?
