The Mail app now behaves in a way that I don’t like. If I open an email and tap the trash can to delete the email, Mail kicks me back to my email list instead of showing the next email.

In iOS 12, I could quickly go from email to email with my thumb poised over the trash can and scan and delete rapidly. I’ve long preferred Mail over other alternatives because of this.

So, after some time with iOS 13 on my iPhone XS MAX – here are my notes.
  • Most things just work. Overall the system is stable and adequately usable. There are ample UI glitches, but nothing one cant ignore.
Broken things
  • Notifications.
    • Calls - randomly wont notify on some calls on the phone or watch.
    • Mail - You will get the audible sound, and see a banner but the badge count does not appear or reflect missed messages.
  • Mail App
    • Mail app is noticeably slow to open from closed.
    • Sometimes it wont “refresh” new mail even after getting a notification.
    • Some messages deleted in Mail don’t sync delete across server.
  • Settings App.
    • Trying to access certain – non critical settings will crash the settings app.
    • Push / Fetch settings per account in particular crashes for me every time I attempt to access.

What works / What I Like.
  • CarPlay. It works. And it works well.
    • New widget screen is really nice.
    • New calendar app is super helpful to have that little reminder.
    • Album art loading slow is really the only issue ive had.
  • Most apps work.
    • Have not had any critical app issues. Everything again just kinda works.
    • Feedback app did crash once for me in the middle of filling out a report.
    • FaceID worked right away from me, and no issues with it in apps that use it either. Not only that is seriously fast. Most the time its already done before I can realize it.
    • Apple Wallet works fine
    • Safari is FAST now. And really smooth.
    • New Photos app is really nice. I like the new setup a lot more.
    • Also, the App store got an update and it moved App Updates.. I actually particularly like the new location.
  • Dual Sim
    • iMessage/Facetime on both lines now is really nice. Simple setting to activate.
    • No other major enhancements to dual sim yet.
    • Additionally – iOS 13 seems to update the Verizon PRL’s and I have significantly better service in most places.
  • New Health + Activity apps
    • I really like the look of the new health app.
    • I don’t like that you cant really sort the summery to your liking yet. You can only set what you want to see.
    • Trending sheet in Activity is really nice too. The insights are nice, though limited for now.

Apple Watch – WatchOS 6 – Series 4 Nike +
  • So far it works rather smoothly. No issues after update with pairing.
  • A few hiccups with customization settings on the iPhone app directly. They don’t seem to load right and wont show in the app. Adjusting on the watch works just fine.
  • Lots of new really helpful settings – like the ability to turn off Siri on digital crown press. Helpful in turning off the random Siri nags from your wrist being bent.
Edit added a screen cap of my apps. no major issues with any yet.

Did you see the calculator or noise app or complications on the watch? I haven’t been able to find them, cycles is there as is rain. I agree that everything is much more stable and smooth and faster than I expected.

I do actually, via both the watch directly and the IOS app.

In regards to the iMessage/FaceTime on both lines of a dual sim its increadibly painless.. just check the setting :)
this is with two Verizon lines 1-esim 1-physical.

So hopefully people will be able to reach me when I'm on my non-default number making a phone call. Also, can you verify if data will work while on a phone call on the non-default number!?

If so THIS IS HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What's the proper way to revert back to 12.3 (downgrade). I put device into recovery and tried but it said it couldn't do it, something error or another. Would prefer to be able to downgrade (haven't done it in a good good while so not sure if I'm even doing it right).

Thanks.

It's been a long time since I used Swype, but I'm not not crazy about having to remove my finger to space, as that slows down typing.

I realize auto-correct is supposed to fix it, but I also feel like there was an easier way to capitalize a letter on Swype. Am I wrong?

Swift Key FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Notice in Safari, there is no option to see my iCloud tabs that are open on other devices. Maybe those need to be running iOS 13 and the latest beta MacOS as well?

Also having the Slide Ofer bug where I can’t dismiss the window.

I realised that upgrading my iPhone to iOS 13 beta killed iCloud Tabs for me if the macOS system is Mojave. I tried Catalina beta and iCloud Tabs worked. However, I had to downgrade back to Mojave for there are real issues I was facing with Catalina and now iCloud Tabs aren't working again.

Maybe by the next beta or more they will come round to fixing it.

I’ve read it’ll allow second number to be online while on a call. Can’t test it though as I got rid of my last plastic today.

Quoting myself since this is getting a little buried. make my additions easier to see.

So update: Mail app is pretty bad off.
  • Notification badges will come back randomly and id have like 165 as my count.. yet nowhere would I actually have 165 emails. Only way to clear was to remove the whole account.
  • When deleting an email, it does not mark is as read – so if you have outlook open on your computer it would show it as deleted, but unread.
  • I swapped over to Outlook as my fallback.. So far its holding up fine. Notifications work and everything syncs.
For those curious about battery life.. its actually pretty good for me. my phone is at 88% (11:30am) and I pulled it off the charger around 5:30am.. my work email syncs all day. Along with other random apps, texts, ect. Pretty standard working persons use.

Safari 13 on iOS 13 seems to support WebAuthn for security keys. Can someone who has a security key and iPad with USB-C or iPad/iPhone with lightning to USB dongle try this feature to see if it works? Hopefully, it'll be possible to use NFC in the future to do U2F/FIDO2 as well since CoreNFC received an update regarding writing to NFC tags. (As a side node, Safari Tech Preview 84 is released for Mac and includes Safari 13. This is already working there.)

Yea 2015 Hyundai Sonata with Nav pack for me.. works great and very fluid. BMW's implementation from what i here is kinda sketch as is with being subscription model. doesn't overly surprise me. a lot of the components are likely not built in to the Head unit directly, but sitting up in the cloud (for control of sub) where Hyundai built it native. added a couple pics of it in action :)

Two questions:

First On your picture of the the overview screen, I see that you have the red time. I had that because a app kept grabbing the microphone and it would cause the music playback to go into a semi muted format. Do you have that?

Secondly when you are in this overview screen and NOT using a navigation app, does that map view show your position? Mine does not.

For reference if someone is wondering I have a 2018 Cadillac XT5.

I've long suspected that certain iCloud pieces are sandboxed from mainstream iCloud during betas. I guess that would allow them to tweak data structures and so on, without impacting everyone.

red time was cause i was using the phones camera, while CarPlay was hooked up. so id imagine the mic kicked on too by default. i had music playing at the time and it did not change volume at all.

And yes, on the overview screen, it showed my location. Granted its way pulled out.. if you look at the overview image the location icon is pretty accurate. I had not used Maps prior to that image at all either, for reference.

I left feedback for CarPlay requesting the option to choose Weather as a widget instead of Calendar. Although I use Calendar all the time, I don't really need it on my CarPlay screen. Weather would be awesome. Fingers crossed!
Endorse 100%. They can't really use the argument that its more distracting than the calendar (and, frankly, I'm surprised that did not come up in their consideration of this feature).

On iPadOS, when dragging an app from the dock to do split view, it now splits the apps half and half instead of 2/3 of the screen and 1/3.
Probably (a) to distinguish it from SlideOver and (b) takes advantage of the larger screen real estate afforded by the new Pros.
