Here’s the one more wish I came up with: more advanced 3D Touch.

For example, contextual menu options can be nested inside one other. If you force press Settings, you shall be able to force press for example Bluetooth, and then one more option pops up, such as “Turn Bluetooth on/off”.

There is much more potential in 3D Touch, from what we have now, IMHO.

I kinda get the sense that they are pulling away from 3D Touch. I think they are just adapting software to do what 3D Touch does and save on manufacturing. Only devices that have it now are the XS and XS Max. The XR doesn’t even have it.

Reposting my usual wishlist, cause the bulletpoints don't seem to be implemented yet:

- Service Workers / Push Notifications for Safari (I think this could happen soon)
- Allow us to specify background app refresh data on an per-app basis (afaik china has this? Allows you to specify whether an app is turned off, can use mobile or wifi data etc)
- Give us a way to lock various parts of the OS via biometric authentication: photo albums (hidden/deleted?), app launch approval, app folders and so on
- Animoji API so devs can release their own mascots as animoji (think Donald Duck or Mickey Mouse)
- Allow us to create smart playlists in the music app, this is currently only possible via iTunes
- Use the Workflow team/Shortcuts app to create iOS Profiles: toggle on/off parts of the system or automate stuff based on GPS location etc (e.g. silence non-work mails while at work).
- Voicemail for FaceTime
- Roll out services like Apple News (widget works here already) or Apple Pay in more countries. It only needs one outlet or bank to adopt it and the rest will follow suit.
- Apple Music handoff between iOS and macOS/Windows (iTunes)
- Allow us to re-order contact details (I sometimes get a new phone number but have to keep the old one, cut/paste galore instead of allowing me to move a new number up a few slots)
- Add multi-user support to the iPad (I want to use it as a household device)
- Multi-lingual query support (so I can ask Siri to play me non-german songs) -> they at least support that for music playback
- Really anything that allows Siri to be smarter, could even allow opt-in for less privacy-style feature sets if it means we get a smarter Siri
- Chained Siri Queries ("Play song XYZ on the homepod and set an alarm for 3pm")
- Dark mode API, allow devs to opt into it with the addition of an API that allows them to specify a dark theme for their apps (think auto-toggling on the dark theme in twitter via said API). Should, of course, bring dark themes for the stock apps.
- Automatically fade out the home bar on the X or at least give the option to hide it.
- Allow us to specify what info (and how) we see in the status bar. Pre-X devices have no issue there but the X(S/R) has less space to show status icons. Apple should offer an interface similar to the control center one where we can specify what info we want to see (some may want to have the GPS icon permanently hidden, some want battery percentage instead of an icon, some may not want to see the wifi or cellular icon but get a quick glance on whether AirPods are connected or an alarm is set).
- Add more live and dynamic wallpapers or release APIs so devs can create them and offer them via a wallpaper store (or their apps).
- Add the mobile data usage indicator on the X(S/R), it was in the leaked FWs but never made it to the official release (a sliding dot above the top right status bar). I'd like to know when background stuff uses my data (example: I somehow had the movie IT download without my approval, cost me 3GB+ of data).
- Venture away from fullscreen alerts. There is no reason a call should lock me out of using my phone, turn it into an overlay we can swipe away to mute.
- CallKit for video calls. Apps like WhatsApp resort to continuous push notifications to simulate a video call. There's no reason Apple can't just offer the FaceTime video call UI via CallKit to give devs a way of making video calls fancier.
- Allow X(S/R) users to change the 2 haptic buttons on the lock screen. Why is there swipe left to open the camera AND a camera button... ?
- Add RCS Support to the Messages app

That's a great list friend!

I agree with almost everything you said, just the RCS is in its infancy and I wouldn't want Apple to bother with it at this point.

iMessage is lacking some other features and it's not RCS.

(Weather, Health, Activity, Phone, and Calculator). The inclusion of Stocks and Voice Memos last year makes it seem like they might be coming. I hope a Weather app adds severe weather alerts and radar, and that a Phone app gives access to voicemails. That’d be really helpful.
AMEN!

Where is my Calculator or Health app on my iPad?!?! Come on Apple ; )

Want back and forth <> in Safari moved to top of screen as with all the other apps - or at least an option to do that.
Easier delete of data - for instance in health today I can either delete all the millage or stop data or 1 day at a time. I'd like to be able to do a month at a time. Also, i use several web sites that limit the monthly access without a subscription so I have to delete cookies from Safari (I know I can use other browsers where this might be easier ) I have to swipe and confirm each entry - I'd like to be able to set so I don't have to confirm each delete. Other delete stuff also but these would be a start

Not sure how reliable it is. The only thing that worries me is that Dark Mode will only come to Amoled phones which would mean the XR is left in the dust. I have read anything that suggests that though.

Or...just a feature on the 2019 lineup.

That would piss me off.

Doubt that will happen on dark mode because 2015 MacBook Pro displays aren't OLED. They put dark mode w/ Mojave. I can see an AoD being AMOLED only because of the LCD needing an entire backlit panel. Unless they want to pull a LG?

I really just want PiP and split-view. I am so close to just to selling my iPhone and say f it to go with the S10e. But then if Apple releases a comprehensive iOS 13, I'll be a bit upset because then I would have to sell my S10e to get the XR, which isn't worth the downgrade to imo.

Alright! With iOS 12.2 imminent, and future substantive betas seeming somewhat unlikely, this is now the pinned place to speculate on the next version!

In an upcoming iOS release, Apple's News app is going to change its homescreen icon to a white background, with the News logo featured in pink. Over the past couple days, both the Outlook and Bank of America apps have suddenly made similar changes to their homescreen icons: a white background, with the colorful logo in the middle. There may be more apps too. My theory is that in iOS 13, apps will finally be freed from the square confinement on the homescreen, and we'll have just logos and icons of any shape, like on macOS. It'll be part of the big changes that have been rumored. Big apps like BofA and Outlook (Microsoft) might have been tipped about big changes coming so their development team has a little extra time to work on them, perhaps. What do you all think?

It’s possible, but I doubt it. The iPhone home screen is part of its branding at this point, similar to the grills on luxury cars. It’s iconic and identifies it.

Microsoft is changing all of its logos, across all platforms. I doubt Apple is going to tip off a competitor in advance about big esthetic changes to iOS, even if the competitor is also an app store participant.

That said, I don't expect "more of the same" from Apple on the esthetic. I doubt we'll see freeform icon geometry (triangles and circles), but I am hoping for live icons, a la the Calendar and Clock icons. That is WAY overdue.

Realistically both Microsoft and Bank of America announced their branding updates months ago:

Agreed! I guess I feel like it would be really cool to see macOS icons on iOS. They're more detailed and distinct. And yes, live icons would be really really cool.

Oh, well, there we go! Didn't know that. It was just a theory, haha.

That's a good point, it is iconic, but I guess that doesn't mean it won't ever change either, right?

I hope iOS 13 will improve uppon interface and performance. iOS needs faster animations, dark mode and polish first of all.

What I wish for me:

- faster animations / no lags anymore

- smart dark mode (only enabled when needed)

- setting standard apps like for mail or a browser

- widgets on the home screen

- third party API for the control center

- always on display on OLED iPhones

- weather widget (also for third party apps) on the lock screen

- apps with tabs

- deleting app caches in the iOS settings app

All I want is a visible overhaul. iOS 7 wasnt the best iOS version but my iphone 5 felt like a entirely new phone with 7. some new 3d graphoxs/animations, more parallax more edge to edge I dont know.

I agree with almost everything you said, just the RCS is in its infancy and I wouldn't want Apple to bother with it at this point.

...
I don't know, I'd rather have Apple hop on board now than be late to the party when Android eventually pushes out RCS APIs. Might be a bit selfish of me, but I come from a country where iMessage is essentially DOA and everyone is on the WhatsApp drain. The sooner RCS gets adopted widely (and Zuckerberg adds a RCS fallback to WhatsApp, so WhatsApp users can message people that don't have the app installed) + Apple adds a RCS fallback to the Messages app, the faster I get to uninstall that WhatsApp monster app.
I know, RCS does not have any encryption. That's a sacrifice I'm willing to make to communicate with non-iOS users to escape the facebook rollercoaster ride. At least one of my friends (owning iOS devices too) is on board with iMessage and we exclusively communicate via that. The rest are all on WhatsApp (but everyone deleted their facebook, cause fb is 'the death').

That being said, and it has already been mentioned in here in some form, I do hope Apple does their own messages API. Maybe call it "MessageKit"? Allow 3rd party chat apps to broadcast to the messages app, that way we can mute WhatsApp and co and have the messages show up in the beautiful Messages app. One place for every type of DM/Message: WhatsApp, Facebook, iMessage, Snapchat, Telegram and so on.

Definitely agree. The base design of the home screen won't change until hell freezes over.

What I'm hoping for though is added functionality when interacting with an app icon, I guess via long press since 3D touch seems to be going the way of the dodo. I'd love for them to just take the whole direction of shortcuts + widgets + 3D touch menus + extended dev APIs and finally give us truly useful, maybe at least reasonably customisable, widgets that pop up on long press.

So, I could long press on Google Maps to open a small window showing me bus departure times from my nearest favourite station, or public transport travel times and directions for getting home or to work.

Long press on Notes and I see a small window with a chosen note, maybe a shopping list with tic boxes.

Long press on Music and I get (please, God!!!) direct access to the the equaliser so I can adjust that on the go, because I have chosen that as my long press functionality for that app.

So basically widget functionality, but polished, deepened, and more customisable, available on long press so you get the sense of being able to do stuff really on the go without even leaving the home screen. Meanwhile, maybe you're still able to choose to have these things as widgets in the Today View if you prefer.
