I’m new to this forum but curious if anyone knows if Apple is in any way working on a way to multitask on iPhone. Tired of my android friends being able to watch a YouTube video in the corner of the screen while texting or surfing the internet. I don’t understand why the iPhone seems to never get this???

Apple being the backward, arrogant, know-all company that they are will not, in my opinion, be giving us anything like that functionality on the iPhone. Don’t forget, Apple think they know whats best for us but of course they don’t, or rather they choose not to listen to what we want.

At this moment it’s all guesswork, conjecture etc but that’s my opinion.

Edit: please prove me completely wrong Apple!

Yeah unfortunately I don't see split screen coming to the iPhone from Apple... For all of the reasons mentioned above.

I know this is not Apple's style but if they really want to boost iPhone sales they could just make a splash and throw the kitchen sink in to this update with all of the features that users have been clamoring for. It's such an Apple thing to do to take like the top 10 things that users are screaming for and give us 2 lol. I think this year that will be dark mode and volume HUD... and then performance increases and maybe sprucing up of a few stock apps.

If that’s all they do add to the iPhone then they won’t deserve anyone’s custom and will, quite rightly, garner a lot of negative press. Currently we’re got the best hardware coupled with a disabled OS.

Anyway fingers crossed Apple aren’t the monkeys I think they are.

Yeah it's just too far away from Apple's design philosophy to add everything in a single update. They tend to focus on simplifying and minimizing choice. This is not a bad thing for everyone, but it does limit what power users can do.

So the question then becomes how do you give more to power users while staying true to your core? You have to trickle new features in over time and you have to do so in a way that doesn't impact your core users too significantly.

It's a push/pull thing and while the power users tend to be loud on a forum like this one, that noise is drowned out by millions of happy casual iPhone users who are completely satisfied with the way things are. Apple really can't change this because that lack of choice is actually a feature to millions of iPhone users.

If iOS 13 for iPhone does the below:

Dark Mode
Similar performance as now
Improved battery life even without dark mode

And for iPad:

All of the above

Plus 2-3 features like tabbed apps etc.

That is way more than enough for me.

I don't need 5+ new features in a single update.

2-4 features + bug fixes while maintaining/improving battery life/performance with minor UI additions/changes is enough.

iOS 12 was a big update for me. iOS 11 was a decent size update too. iOS 10 was a decent update too. I don't need them to recreate the world. I am happy at the pace they're adding features provided they don't screw my existing devices over. :)

Agreed. Some would like a complete redesigned iOS every single year and still they wouldn't be happy. While the general public, the huge majority, won't be happy with drastic changes. They just want to use their phone, and know where settings etc are located.

Please show me one person whom you claim wants a complete redesign every year.

I'd love mouse support for the iPad Pro but I'm not holding my breath. I am excited about the other (more likely) iPad iOS improvements that have floated around the internet rumormill.

Actually, I'm more or less expecting mouse support. It sounds like it will come (initially) as an accessibility setting, and then perhaps become a mainstream setting. I've had an iPad Pro for about 48 hours now and i can see why a mouse/trackpad is desirable (well, I knew why before, but now I fully appreciate it!).

One thing that I truly want that I haven’t seen talked about as a rumor is the phone app taking up the entire screen while in use. Right in the middle of a game, movie, reading, etc. I get a spam call that makes my phone unusable for 30 seconds. Yeah I can hang up but if it’s a friend or family, I don’t want to be rude and send them to voicemail straight away. Please just have it slide down from the top like all other notifications. At least give us the toggle in iOS 13.

I guess my expectations are:
  • dark mode
  • swipe keyboard
  • speed improvements/faster animations
  • night mode for the camera (if possible)
I think that's all I need. I definitely have some pie in the sky needs but if I get the 75% of what I want, I will be very happy.

I don’t want a major redesign every year, but I do think that there are many things that would make an iPhone and particularly an iPad much more useful. If those were all of the significant changes that would be a big disappointment for an awful lot of people.

I just want some redesigned icons. It seems most of the icons have been around since iOS 7.

This x100. It’s absolutely infuriating when I’m busy and I’d like the option to tweak incoming call/FaceTime behaviour based on what the phone is currently doing. If sitting idle, fill the screen and play the alert tone/vibrate in silent mode. If I’m actively using the phone, display as a non intrusive banner without sound/vibration so that whatever I happen to be doing can continue. I can’t believe that this has been left unaddressed for so long.

On the subject of alerts, the entire repertoire of ringtones / alert tones has been virtually unchanged now since 2013 - save a solitary addition last year. A refresh is long overdue and I’d like to see subtle alert tones and the removal of most of the current ear splitting horrors.
