Usually a public release that doesn't show up for beta users indicates there's a new incoming beta. Seems odd considering that WWDC isn't happening for another 3 weeks, but I guess this is an unusual year.
Good call btw. So much for those theories that "Apple doesn't push release versions and beta versions in same day or week."

Hmm...I removed the beta profile and installed 13.5.1. That was before we knew 13.5.5 beta 1 was to be released. So I went to my Apple Developer portal to download the beta profile from the Downloads page but it's not there? I swear before I could download the profile from this location. Anyone can point me in the right direction...I seem to be a bit lost at this point.

Edit : pff nevermind...it's there now. It wasn't yesterday.

Very perceptive take here.

Yes, we can add that one to the graveyard of dispelled myths (or things that were once truths)!

Serious question here, what happens if Apple removes the lightning or USB-C port and we’re running beta software? I guess we’d all have to send our devices to Apple to revert back or undo a bad update.

Apple Watch and Apple TV 4K are already in the port-less boat.
There are rumors that iOS 14 / watchOS 7 etc. introduce internet recovery modes similar to macOS.

They would almost have to support wired car play, way too many folks would be left in the cold other wise

Even if they did, how would I charge my phone in the car at the same time if there is only one USB port?

I love wired CarPlay for this reason most of all...particularly on long road trips!

I would hope it would be some type of magnet CarPlay adapter that would also charge. Also I hope if this is the road we go down, the adapter is not crazy like $50 an adapter. Keep it reasonable lol......

Rumors were a new side port like the iPad Pro and pencil connector. Maybe that is the path we are heading.....

If they integrated a wireless charger/holder (or even a wired one) into it...okay.

I just really like my current Rockform case and vent magnet setup. I already have to remove the case when I wirelessly charge overnight. Would hate to have to do that every time I get in the car.

Oh...and I use that case not only because I like their use of magnets, but also when I ride my bike...locks in tight.

well if there is enough demand someone will come out with an adopter to fit each unique need. That’s the beauty of capitalism.

Port-less is obviously where we are headed. But I'm disappointed if Apple is going port-less without some improvements to the wireless charging situation. Charging wirelessly, even when using Apple optimised 7.5W chargers is painfully slow compared to using USB-C Power Delivery.

I'm not one of those who see much benefits of 45W charging and whatnot which is going on with some Android phones. At some point you reach charging speeds that are sufficient enough. But these 7.5W wireless chargers are certainly not the point where I would say it's sufficient enough.

It works for over-night charging, but for pretty much anything else it's rather annoying having to wait ~3 hours for my phone to charge. Of course I could have a wireless charger at my desk at work, at my desk at home etc.. And just get into the habbit of always putting the phone on a charger pad making it so it would never be low on battery. But you will always end up in situations where you are close to reaching 0% and being forced to wait ~3 hours before it's close to 100% sounds rough.

Apple needs to improve the efficiency of wireless charging before going for a port-less phone.

Yes and speed is only one facet. Need somewhat of range so you can use it while charging without holding a charger with your phone. And need more availability in public places. Plus an affordable adapter for cars with wired CarPlay.

I think Apple must be targeting 13.5.5 for WWDC or shortly thereafter as it has support for new Apple News features and I’d imagine the GM/final release will also have support for AirTags and the new over-ear AirPods, so I’d maybe expect weekly betas.
