We upgraded everything three days ago: On Tuesday. Yesterday my iPhone SE (2020) sat mostly idle. I had 70% remaining after sixteen hours and twenty minutes. That works out to 1.8% per hour. That's about what I've historically seen on idle.

Note: I run with all comms (cell, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS) enabled, all the time.

The day before, when I spent quite a bit of time on the phone, I never noticed the phone getting particularly warm.

I have been running a shortcut using AutoWall to change my iPhone wallpaper every day
it has stopped working since I upgraded to iOS14.8
I only use one other shortcut on the phone - it opens a website, still works ok

edit: fixed with a re-install of AutoWall

Thanks for that percentage consumption (1.8% per hour) on "idle". That's what my phone (same model) uses, and I've wondered if that was "normal." Does this percentage vary by model of iPhone?

Well yes, since it is directly related to each phone battery capacity

iOS 14.8 seems ok on my iPhone 8. I just replaced my battery, so it might take me a couple normal cycles to see how battery life is... still calibrating. When I first updated to 14.8 with my old battery, it did seem like it was draining a bit quicker, but that battery was dying anyways, so who knows.

Optimized battery charging is not working for me since this update .
Anyone else ?

Is a clean install really better than only OTA update all the time?
Yes, clean install via computer is objectively better, but unnecessary most of the time. Only worth the time if you’re having issues.

Swipe up function on my X stopped working (six days after updating to 14.8) in portrait mode so I wasn't able to exit apps or get to app switcher. No warning or issues up to that point, tried everything to correct it and finally had to DFU restore and then used my backup to fix it. Everything working normally now. Big pain but happy it was relatively easy to correct.

The security update document for 14.8 was updated today after the release of iOS 15. 14.8 had more security updates than originally documented.

True, a lot more!! Originally there was just this 2 exploits patched. But now it reflects at least 6 or 7 exploits fixed. That explains the issues some people is having, they tweaked a lot of things.

Hopefully all this patches are already on iOS 15, because at this point I doubt I’ll update to iOS 14.8

macOS 11.6 also has additional security fixes documented. I am assuming that these were to keep them undisclosed until today when all platforms had the fixes. New fixes are not documented for watchOS 7.6.2 and tvOS didn't get an update last week, so my hunch is they weren't made known until now since corresponding fixes in these other OS platforms weren't available.

Have they fixed the bug with music app. When I shuffle play all my songs. I don’t have Apple Music. It would sometimes stop playing music and pause or it would start playing the songs from the beginning of the shuffle..
this happens playing albums with Foobar too on 14.7 on an ipad
annoying, and hopefully .8 fixes this as well

What is foobar ?

I wonder if it does it cause it’s shuffling 11.000 songs.

it’s random
Foobar is Music app since 2001ish that run on windows and  products.
the interface is primitive, but the sound in incredible!

since i listen to albums only, the iPad was shuffling songs from a certain musician's album instead of playing,1-2-3-4.
i usually use an old iPod for outdoor but used an iPad, and notice the shuffling when noting was checked.

hoped this helped!

So after a few days, it definitely seems like my battery is draining a bit faster than it should. I forgot to backup before upgrading to 14.8, so I can't rollback to 14.7.1 and restore from a backup. Rookie mistake, except I'm old enough that I should know better.

so then our old backups such as 14.6 are useless?
i never restored an iPad recently and never used anything from a back up like a MacBook does.

14.8 is the only version being signed by Apple right now (besides 15.0). Not sure if you try to use a backup with an unsigned version if it forces you to upgrade to the signed version or if it just says it's not possible to use the backup.. I always make a new backup a couple of days after updating so I've never had to try to use an old backup to restore

Honestly after watching battery tests of both iOS 14.8 and iOS 15.0, I suspect iOS 15 will be the better choice.

I already made my decision. If iOS 15.1 keeps offering a good battery life (or even a better one), and there are no significant bugs or vulnerabilities by that point, I will update all my devices to iOS 15.1

14.8 imo is as good as 14.7.1, i did clean install tho.

But yea, i'm waiting to upgrade to iOS15 in near future, do keep us updated on your finding of upgrade.

Which iPhone are you using bro?

I have been watching all these battery threads for months. I have a iPhone 11 that was on 14.2 and 90% battery health. I considered it to have stellar battery life.

I finally upgraded to 15 a couple of days ago via OTA. I still have 90% battery health and so far the same battery life. I’m constantly use my phone through out the day. I also upgraded my wife’s iPhone 6s (14.1) last night. We’ll will see how that goes. That phone is almost at its end of life anyway.

All of these security patches seemed more important to me than the risk of battery drain. Good luck👍
