Fair enough.. but its a clock.. You can apologise all you like.. and yeh I am a realist. again.. its a clock.. you had one job.. Cant test something that doesn't work..
Its is beta 3, not alpha 1, but maybe functioning clock is cutting edge these days.

Yes I do, I work for a Silicon Valley company.. All our clocks work in our Beta's :) We also have an internal testing regime before releasing Betas. My guess is Apple do as well. Thats why ist strange that this slipped through (if widespread). As I mentioned, if the offset was linear I could understand something with timezones slipped through, but its just slower..

Lots of Android clock engineers in here, it seems. And they all tout how easy clock widget programming is.

Interesting coincidence?

I guess their forums are so empty that they feel the need to poke around in this one.

I am having the issues with the blank weather widget when it is set to “current location”. If I change it to a specific city it works fine.

I’ll go ahead and report that.

Why do you keep stating "Releasing a clock...." ? This is only a beta 3 and is not released yet. Actually only the first attempt of the clock widget is this beta. Once iOS 14 is actually released then perhaps your complaint will hold water. Just sayin.
That's a good question. It boils down to the definition of the word release. In software development the word release means something different than it does for general public.

Software is just a collection of text files containing the source code. The source code lives in a central repository to be shared with all the developers. Developers can download the source code to work on it locally on their machines and then upload it again. On this central repository there are also a lot of so called 'branches' to aid with the development process. Generally there is a master branch which contains the code that is currently in production. Then, there could also be a multitude of support branches and there are so called feature branches. Whenever a developer starts working on a new feature, he creates a separate branch for it. The idea behind it is that you can work on a feature without bothering other developers that might work on something else with it and that only finished features end up in the master branch. It is vital that a master branch always only contain production ready code. At any moment someone should be able to release the master branch and all the features that are finished up to that point. Generally a feature has to undergo a whole bunch of tests to determine whether or not it's good enough to be merged to the master branch.

This source code needs to be compiled to machine code or assembly before it can be executed. This compiled executable is referred to as a build. During development the source code is built very often in the process. You build it locally on your machine every time you want to see your own end result. You also have it built by a dedicated server every time you upload your code to the central repository. You can build individual feature branches to see if they work properly, and you can build the master branch to see if all the finished features are working well together. Many of the builds created are just for internal testing by the development team. But whenever a built is send out to be installed on machines outside of the development team, this build is called a release. As a developer, you release a build. It doesn't matter whether that build only makes it to the alpha phase, to the beta phase, to GM or all the way to production. For a developer the release is the same. A developer might not even know which build makes it to what phase.

All a developer has to care about is that no unfinished features make it to the master branch. And that brings me down to the questionable choices Apple made here. How the hell does a Clock widget that clearly isn't working end up in the master branch!? It should not have made it past internal testing at all!

So I was on hold for 20 min in my phone my screen went black and I couldn’t get the screen to come backup with out disabling Face ID by hitting side bottoms and hAnging up the call? The screen came back? Strange issue never had that before

I have seen a lot of reports of random rebooting... been running iOS 14 since beta 1 and have not experienced a single reboot or springboard issue. Confirmed with my logs. Maybe I am lucky.

You’ve been a member of this forum for a long time and I think I’ve seen you on previous beta tests as well

You will know that random/springboard reboots won’t be down to luck. 😁👍

The only time our iPhones are the same are before we first switch them on.

As soon as we add any apps onto them, they become our own and any particular app, or combination of apps could cause a reboot/re-spring.

It’s still useful to have comments about the frequency of these in the thread, but you will get people who have had none and others who may have had many depending on what they have installed on their iPhone.

[Naturally if everyone is experiencing them then it is down to that particular Beta]

I don’t like the change to the weather widget. Now the only way to see hourly forecast is to use the large widget. Medium size now shows daily forecast. Also it looks like the widget is mixing Fahrenheit and Celsius.View attachment 936855

Oops posted the same thing. I’m sweating just looking at your forecast. No way I could live in DC. 😰
It’s reverted back to hourly temperature for me.

I'm not seeing that, maybe it changes to that at the end of the day, so you can see what's coming up?

Anyone know how to “show” apps that have been hidden from the homepage?

Press on the app in the App Library and select 'Add to Home Screen' or just drag the app over from the App Library.

Im wondering how it got past their testing regime, they have had it in the works for some time, and they already have the normal icon working correctly. If it were a fixed amount out it would make more sense, but it is actually just moving slower.

Have you considered that the clock part of the widget is working fine, but there's a problem with the widget system and updating? Seeing as there's other widgets with same issues. That the point of a Beta is for a larger scale of TESTING? Rather than it being the final GM version of the release?

If you don't like testing a release that will have issues, then go back to a stable build and wait for iOS 14 to hit GM.

Mine's still running fine, 36 hours or so later..

Wait a second - how are we supposed to open the Weather app on iPad to get the widget to appear?

Press and hold on the Home Screen and click the plus, add the weather widget from there (or press and hold in the Today view on iPad). That's what I did.

I was updating my iPad to the latest public beta but it's stuck on the same screen for over 10 minutes now. If I press the home button it just says "The iPad will reboot after the update" but it seems too long? Any suggestions what I can do now?

I’ll go ahead and report that.

Mine only did it when I first started up (like most, I think).

I always immediately do a hard restart or two after an update to shake out the cobwebs...weather has been working fine for me since it first updated. Did take about 15 seconds or so, but has been fine ever since that first delay.

Did you do the usual things? Open the weather app for 30 seconds or so. Delete the widget and add it back.

Mine was blank/black at first but came up and works ok but had to try a few things like that to get it going. Would still report it as you shouldn't have to do all that 🤣 But if you want it on your screen you should be able to get it to work.

The clock is not keeping the correct time

MANY people have posted that issue already over many pages in this thread. 😊

Me too. So does that mean Apple can change/update widgets at any time without a software update?

I'm betting it's set so that at a certain time of the day, it changes to the daily forecast, so you see what the weather for the week is before you go to sleep.

Mine doesn’t work as expected

Are you an Apple Music subscriber? Though i doubt this matters too much.
If you are, try to sign out?
Or you can try to sync some music to your iPhone and see if the alternative background color applies. My library is completely synced from iTunes. No Apple Music stuff.

Anyone have Siri Shortcuts automations completely bugged? It only works one time when the phone is rebooted and then nothing works at all and if I turn the switch off for the automation when I come back it’s on again.

Back tap is now not only available for the 2020 SE as mentioned previously, but also for the iPhone 8 and 8 plus.
My issue with the Activity, sorry, Fitness app from DB2 , persists. It doesn’t show my last km even though the workout shows the complete run.

I’ve been running a couple extra hundreds meters to make sure that split was the one missing, but today I didn’t because I wanted to check if the bug was still there.

I use only my AW 4 cellular to log the run. It vibrates and shows the time for the split after every km, even the ones that later don’t show in the phone.
Fitness crashes on launch on 11PM. It's fine on SE2020

‘Rona 2020....people complaining about bugs in beta software 🤦‍♂️ It’s Beta 3!

I didn’t read the whole thread but only the past few pages but has it occurred to anyone that the possible reason the Clock isn’t working is because it’s a widget and on a far different updating timeline than the app icon? Maybe they released it to see the affects of a widget that needs to be updated every second vs others than can be updated at intervals or on specific events? How will it affect other widgets, performance, battery, etc if there are widgets that are updating every second? Only way to do that is to release it on a large scale, collect logs and gather information.

It should at least update when I open that screen though...I’ll even wait 3-5 seconds.

Showing me that it is 9:20 in the morning when it is in fact 10:10 is not normal or should be expected, even from a widget.

Having a problem and would grateful for any suggestions.

14PB3 just won't install on my 11 Pro. I've been doing public betas for two years and know the drill.

Starting from 13.6, I successfully installed the iOS 14 beta profile, downloaded the 14b3 update, I wait for "Preparing update" to finish, then press "Install now". It shows "verifying update" for a few seconds then says "Unable to install update. An error occurred installing iOS 14." and gives me the option to "retry" or "remind me later."

I've tried rebooting the phone, deleting and reinstalling the profile, deleting and re-downloading the iOS 14b3 update file, attempting the installation while plugged into power, attempting the installation at different times of day or night. No matter what, I keep getting this same error message.

The only thing I can think of that I haven't tried is to wipe the phone and do a clean installation of 13.6, and then install the 14 beta profile and try again. I'm guessing if anything would work, this would work. But it would take a lot of time and effort, and I don't have much of either right now.

Thanks for any suggestions or info.

Haven't you heard? This is the place for griping about issues with pre-release software while (likely) not sending the information to the one place that matters.

This is no place for logic.

Trying installing the developer profile.
