Been having horrible battery life on the beta like some on this forum. Ran up the Xcode Beta and looked at Network Activity instruments to see what was going on. From what I can tell it's iCloud syncing related. Noticed my phone has been chewing through data (I run a Wireguard VPN on the phone to my home network). The phone seems to think it's on a wifi network and therefore it thinks it needs to sync with iCloud - not sure why that is since it shouldn't as it is not plugged into power. Anyway the only fix I have found so far is to turn off iMessage in iCloud and also Photos in iCloud.

Thought this might be helpful for some

iCloud Message

anyone else still having inconsistency when it comes to the reported space? I have had this issue since well before iOS 11 and they never fixed it and I am still wondering if its on my end

iPhone storage reports 400 MB used by Messages in the overview
HOWEVER when i click on it, to go deeper, it shows 132 MB yet when I delete every attachment from there and go straight into the Messages app itself, i still have images attached in every single conversion. Now when i check my iCloud storage it suddenly shows 2 GB of Messages ... I never understood this.

Btw i also have this issue with iCloud Messages deactivated, just not the 2 GB part obviously.

Another annoying thing is that if i go in general > storage > messages and delete images from the list it shows me a long list of photos which i can delete. However, when i go back one page and back into that list, suddenly it shows me more pictures to delete that were not shown before.

Same with deleting images attached straight from conversion > info i > attachements in messages itself. I delete a picture, go back one page and the image that i just deleted is still shown as a preview but when i go back deeper into the attachments, the picture is actually indeed gone. Must be some cache thing that does not clear unless you back out a couple of times.

Not sure why, but after days of not working my weather widget suddenly is working........

Edit, stock widget as well

Maybe there is something server side, as someone mentioned earlier in the thread, after all.
Quite possible, I noticed my news widget which used to go black a lot of the time is now working much better as well. It’s also updating much more frequently

Now that these widgets seem to be working again and weather seems to be driven by Dark Sky, could we get that weather radar in the app now? Mmmmm ya that would be great....... also when they are done adding that, their TPS report is late as well!

Mail

Seeing another issue with Mail over the weekend and today. At times I will open the mail app and get a blank screen for Unread. Literally nothing on it. If I go back to the root menu and reopen the Unread I get the items that are supposed to be there along with the standard Mail items. For an example, see below.

I’m wondering if Mail get’s “stuck” in the previous Unread column.
Does this in both Landscape and Portrait mode.

I've been using iPadOS 14 on my (former) iPad Pro 10.5" and (current) iPad Pro 12.9" 4th gen; and it's been good on both devices with no major hiccups so far.

So, I was wondering how smooth the current iOS 14 beta runs on the XR? Is it still finicky where I should hold for a couple betas or possibly the GM?

There's not a hard and fast answer to your question, as YMMV. iOS 14 betas have been pretty stable and functional to date. Issues with some of the widgets seem to come and go, probably based on server-side tweaks for some of them (weather, clock, stocks), but the basic functionality has been there so far (there's always the chance that it all goes south with the next beta)... the key (for me, anyway) is to check the broken apps thread related to iOS 14 and make sure none of your "must have" apps is crapping out with the betas.

Create an archived backup to ensure that you have a path "back"... and you're probably going to be ok.

Beta 3 has been running pretty smooth for me on my new SE, but today I made a couple of observations. The widgets have started updating with more frequency. Both the weather widget and the news widget which is nice but battery has taken a big hit so looked at usage stats and found the news to be the culprit. 28% in the past 7 hours. I barely looked at the news via the widget so thinking it is the new frequency of the updating. I like it updating more often before previously before today that is, it rarely updated unless I opened it. I’ll be noticing how it does with the next beta update. The widget is cool and all but not at the cost of battery drain.

My only issue with iOS 14 on my iPhone 11 Pro Max is the random resprings. Happens minimum of 10 times a day, can happen when in the middle of a call. Otherwise pretty much been ok. Hoping beta 4 tomorrow sorts the resprings out. 🤞🏻

I have yet to experience a respring on any of the iOS 14 betas...

Well it was fun while it lasted, weather widget stopped working about two hours ago.

Lucky you 😜
That is one thing I haven't had happen yet (iPhone 11 - PB2/3 - not sure whichever was the last PB). And I agree that the Widgets seem to be updating better - though I did have to do a restart this morning to get them working.
Sorry you are still having the restart issue - that would drive me batty.

I thought the betas came out on Wednesdays.

The betas are released when Apple releases them. Historically, Mondays and Tuesdays are typical, but lately, it's been Wednesdays, too. And we've seen them on Thursdays and even Friday afternoons... there's no hard and fast rule... they come when they come.

We should move this discussion here:

Anyone else see their signal randomly goes away then searches and come back all within a min? 11 pro.

I’d have full signal and streaming music then it suddenly stops. Few secs lately my signal goes out. Comes back. Normal again. Seems to happen once every two days and frequently on others.
