I guess we will see more iOS14 updates, even after 15 is released.
iOS 15 won't be mandantory (first time ever) if you want the latest security updates, they will still fix them in iOS 14. They annouced that at WWDC.

As I mentioned before, likely to see at least 14.8. If we compare to releases last year, 13.7 came out in September. I think maybe a 14.7.1 for that bug regarding unlocking via Apple Watch. 14.8 in September.

yeah I'm wondering if iPadOS is getting skipped till 14.7.1
I think that is likely. An interim iOS release was required yesterday for shipments of the MagSafe battery pack but there was no imperative for something called iPadOS 14.7. Now bug fix releases can continue with 14.7.1. I am disappointed by that only because I want to get off of the beta train but can’t until Apple formally release something for iPad.

Enough with the silly excuses. Then why was TVOS , watchOS and the HomePod updated ……but not the iPad?

Cos they could? Why does Apple have to release all of them at the same time?

I'm just saying why iOS 14.7 have to come out on Monday, the rest didn't *have* to.

No, I think that's a fair question from jonnyb098. Since iOS and iPadOS share the same build, you would expect them to be released at the same time. You are right in a sense that Apple doesn't have the release all updates at the same time (e.g. macOS), but when two products share the same build and only one gets a release, I don't see a problem asking why in this case.

It’s a reasonable answer that iOS came out when it did cos of the MagSafe Battery Pack.

Got iPadOS 14.7 downloading on my iPad now.

I think, if it wasn't for the MagSafe Battery Pack, iOS 14.7 would have come out today, with iPadOS 14.7.

The MagSafe battery pack is the only logical reason for this abnormality of release this week.

I’ve had a thought.

MacOS 11.5 was released today. I wonder if Apple are moving iPad OS releases to come out along with MacOS releases going forwards.

Would be a reason why they didn’t have it with the other releases.

That's an interesting thought. Could be. Future updates will tell the tale...

iPadOS is out now. Looks like iPad 8 and iPad Air 4 has a different build 18G70
I also wonder if this didn't have something to do with the delay - This may be more likely than synchronizing with macOS releases. Again, time will tell.

I don't think we will get to see iOS 14.8 anymore. What do you guys think?
Yeah I agree. Someone would say, we got 13.7 in September last year but that was some COVID related update, a special case.

This thread will live on anyway, we may have a full year of 14.7.x updates!

There will be more iOS 14 related releases. Though they will only be bug fixes and security patches.

13.7 included both of those, as well as the COVID related item, so that would have come anyway. It’s happened a few times over the last few years that we’ve had August releases, whether it be 14.8, or they run through 14.7.1 onwards.

Considering Apple is going to support iOS 14 along with iOS 15, for security updates and stuff, I feel like we will see a 14.8 and maybe even a 14.9 at some point, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we just don’t see a beta release for them, either. No new features and just security updates.
