Do you have any Safari extensions installed? Some ad blocker? Maybe one of them is buggy?

Yes, but pretty sure this behavior started with this round of betas.

I have 1Blocker and Unobstruct (both for probably years), and then Open in Apollo and Vinegar (those, naturally, only for a few months).

(edit) turned all of those off; just happened again.

Absolutely!!! ????

Ever since I got my Apple Watch, phone has been on silent mode 24/7 ??

If only there was a way I could put the ?? on silent. ?

Totally right. On a train, plane or at work… the swoosh, ping, tap tap tap tap going off, gets looks of rage in London.

No idea why they made sounds for a keyboard. I’ve seen it start a punch up on a bus. Very anti social and dangerous it seems.

It does my head in as well. ?

The keyboard sounds irritate me the most. ?‍♂️

Sitting there watching a movie, all of a sudden, passion fingers wants to let everyone know they’re typing a message.

One could make the argument that if more files are replaced there’s more chance for a file to be corrupted or have an issue during the transfer/write process.

Just a thought; I’m in the ipws camp.

Agree. And Apple (and other software developers/ distributors) didn’t just start transferring software electronically (as opposed to using physical media like floppy disks or CDs/DVDs recently). Not an expert or historian in this field, but the checksum method of determining the accuracy of the payload delivery has been around, if I recall correctly, for at least the last 25 years (and likely far longer in academic and defense circles). It was certainly around during the big Napster-era of music downloads in the late ‘90s-early 00’s.

That checking process is likely what is taking all the time even we see “Preparing update” after the OTA downloads.

There also seems to be the thought that it’s easier for OTA files to become corrupted during the transfer process than it is for an IPSW. Again, not an expert, but it seems to me that a series of 1s and 0s can be corrupted just as easily via a wired transfer as in a wireless transfer.

In my mind the issues people see are far more likely to be caused by their unique on-device software profiles or to hardware issues than by corrupt software arriving via an over the air transfer. In fact, I think that this, more than beta testers’ aptitude in software testing, is why Apple (and others) engage in public beta testing. They get orders of magnitude more data from such tests on the myriad different configurations in the wild than they ever could in their own labs (at least up to the point where AI takes over).

Note, for example, how many issues seem to be unique to certain individuals in this thread/forum. Some, sure, relate to their thoroughness in testing all aspects of the beta. But many issues seem unique to them and are fairly serious. If code corruption were an endemic problem, I would expect to see more people with the same issues, or at least similarly severe issues.

iPhone 13 Pro. This seems to involve attaching a photo or video to a MMS from the Photos app. Anyone else seen this?

1. From the Photos app, select a photo or video and tap the share icon.
2. Tap the Messages icon.
3. Enter the recipient and then tap the image to enter text.
4. Tap the microphone to dictate a message.
5. As you dictate, the first letter of the first word shows up but the rest of what you are dictating does NOT show until you tap the keyboard icon to exit voice to text. At that point, the rest of your text shows up.

Is it just me or are others seeing this behavior? I think it is a regression..... I don't attach photos / videos often but I am pretty sure it worked correctly prior to this current string of betas. I reported it as feedback in any event.

Totally agree. I am not very deeply into code (SW/HW Tester), but for cars the OTA updates have high numer of CRC in files and even in signals working inside a car (communication between sensors, ECU etc). Which means it’s less likely to be a download / transfer problem (every file you download have hash saved inside and this hash is checked before download, which is calculated based on most critical places of file or whole file). Music you stream or download have already error correcting bytes to fix possible problems with disk, transfer or device used.
But **** happens, always.

Anyone having issues with Google Maps? It won’t load maps or search results whether I’m on WiFi or 5G past the initial load. This is what I see unless I force close, then it happens again. Changed on this Beta.

Well that is.... curious. I rebooted and it still does the same thing. Select a photo in Photos, share to Messages, add a recipient, tap the photo to enter text and then tap the microphone and start talking. Only the first letter of the dictated text displays. If I first use the keyboard begin a message and THEN tap the microphone, I can use speech to text and both the typed and dictated text displays.

This is 100% repeatable. At least on my 13 Pro. I wonder what might be different on your phone?

Hmmm.... I just tried this on my wife's Pro Max (NOT running the beta) and it does exactly the same thing. So this would seem to be a bug in IOS 15 itself and NOT a regression.

Not sure but I did it twice and works fine.. I have a 13PM running the beta .. but I only install betas using IPSW not OTA ?.. had to put a LOL because this has been heavily discussed why some have issues when others don’t .. maybe someone other than me can test it but I’m not seeing what you are

Even curiouser! Well, I've done my duty and reported it via the Feedback app.

As far as OTA vs. IPSW, it would seem to me that if we are trying to find bugs in the SYSTEM, it is 100% valid to confine updates to OTA since that is how 99.9% of the user base will apply the update when it goes public. Ignoring or minimizing bugs that go away when updating via IPSW only covers up something that Apple needs to know about. IMHO.....

I did the OTA to 15.4 beta from 15.3.1 and it works fine on my 13 Pro.

EDIT: If I click on the photo it only displays the first letter. If I click under the photo in the text bar then it works as intended. I never clicked on the photo to enter a text so this is new to me.

EDIT 2: I checked it on my brother’s 12 on 15.3.1 and it does the same. Beginning to wonder it’s designed to be clicked under and not on the photo.

Anyone else having issues with Gapless playback with the Music app. I have some live albums and (once again) it is pausing between each track, highly distracting.

Seems that this keeps a recurrent issue during some betas.

Report the bug.
Sort the bug.
IPSW, every little helps.

Could someone check if this bug is still present?
Steps to repro:
  1. In IPad / iPhone open Safari and take a screenshot
  2. In edit window crop picture and save it
  3. Check what is saved in Pictures app - currently its saved without crop - what is, the whole picture is saved
Same goes for cropping and sending a picture for instance in Messenger. Whole screenshoot taken is sent

All good over here ?

Maybe that is the confusion. I was not aware that there WAS a text bar under the photo at that stage in the process ;) After you enter a recipient, there is no obvious place to tap in order to transition to entering message text. So the first time I tried it, I ended up tapping the photo and was then able to enter text. I've done it that way ever since. What passes for a text bar is very slim and un-obvious since it is not a different shade / color or otherwise highlighted.

Anyway.... if I tap directly underneath the photo, all dictated text displays right away. So not a bug but instead poor GUI design?

Correct you have to tap underneath or somehow get the cursor under the photo for dictation to complete. I just tried it on my 13Pro Max and the behavior is the same as yours, no beta in use. The bug is that the cursor doesn’t always appear under the photo. The first time I did it as you posted it did not and I ran into the first letter syndrome. Once I got the cursor below, every other time I attempted this whether manually typing in a recipient or picking the suggested one, the cursor immediately went to the correct spot. I tried a couple of others’ phones as well, different models, no betas, and they all behaved the same. The initial attempt didn’t work properly, all subsequent ones behaved correctly.

Battery standby has been amazing. No drain over night on Wi-Fi. The environment has so much to do with the battery performance whether it be screen on time or otherwise. Whilst away in another country, my dual sim setup drained like a biatch. Not terrible but definitely not like what I’m used to back home.
Low power mode is rarely used. But was used the previous session per the pic. Since I was conserving juice and had no access to power.

@Limeybastid Brilliant review on the battery standby. But dude, this is making me sad 😔 are you even using your iPhone, or do you just let it sit there and look all pretty.

Are you sure you are not using an android on the side 😩😩
