Things that immediately come to mind:

  • Facetime Screen Sharing
  • Split-Screen Multi-Tasking
  • Horizontal Home Screen orientation when Portrait Lock is off and you flip the phone sideways
  • Widgets that only take up 2 apps worth of space
  • Allow free resizing of widgets without needing to remove them
  • More extensive Weather App (can we just please integrate Dark Sky into the stock app already?!)
  • Allowing basic Offline Siri functionality (setting timers, alarms, play/pause songs, etc.)
  • Dark Mode App Icons for iOS system apps
  • News app is just generally awful. Needs to be fixed

I would pay well for a work profile (as implemented in Android). For example - I want to be able to open work links in Microsoft Edge, have Outlook / Teams notifications only during work hours, etc.

What are you asking for? Them to completely compromise the security of Face ID when you're wearing a face mask?

The reason you need a watch is security. Instead of your face being the password, you watch is. If they let the phone unlock to anyone wearing a face mask you may as well remove your passcode.
Exactly. If they made FaceID work with masks it would be a huge compromise in security. No way that’s going to happen.

1. I want to see the new-style Dock on devices such as iPhone 7 and 8 and the new SE.
2. I want folders to hold 12 apps per view instead of current 9.
3. I want UI animations to be faster.

Beyond that, I have no clue what I want and eager to see what changes they bring. New iconography is always welcome.

I want significant improvements to the Files app. For my work, that is the single biggest impediment to using my iPad Pro. I have to access files in OneDrive several layers deep in a shared folder. It just can’t do that now on a consistent basis . Very frustrating.

I want to have more external display options — not just mirroring the display — for iPadOS. That’d be amazing.

I'd like to see iPadOS finally be properly split off into a more fully featured, desktop-type OS optimised for touch screens rather than just being iOS with a different name, especially since the latest iPad Pro now has an M1 chip. Bring iPadOS closer to macOS than iOS at least on the iPad Pros. So much potential wasted otherwise.

I don’t think so. At least as a whole redesign. But it will probably have some major changes in the Lock Screen (to adapt better to the coming always-on displays and new system notifications) and, hopefully, the icons will get the Big Sur design work a bit of depth and shadows, you know, for consistency. A redesigned Lock Screen and redesigned style of the icons is the closest to a system redesign, and that’s what I think -and a hope- it will happen.

Aside from the Lock Screen, the notifications and the system app icons, I doubt we’ll see any other major changes, but maybe the control center gets a redesign as well, to adapt it to the Big Sur style.

What else are you expecting, OP? The grid of apps design is the signature of iOS and I doubt they will change it more than what they did with iOS 14

The current iOS design is hardly the exact same as iOS 7. That was a much more flat and basic UI, though it is definitely the same OS, the look and feel of the OS has changed and added more depth to icons and interface elements. All the same, I agree the basic iPhone design overall hasn’t changed much though I don’t see why it should. I like the idea of an updated Home Screen but when I think about what they could or should do with it I come up short. Anything they add seems like unnecessary clutter. If I want weather, I open the app. It takes one second. If I want to see my messages or emails, I’ll open those apps. I don’t need a small screen bombarding me with cluttered information. I guess this is why I’m not a UI designer at apple though. Maybe they will surprise me.

This is where I am. I'd love to see changes, but the second you ask me WHAT changes I would like to see...all I can say is "ummmmmm..." ?

Wonder if Apple would be so bold to remove the 7 line as well? Doubt it personally, but would love to see Apple finally move away from the 7 and 8 line, so that the focus stays with "notch" form factors.
Apple usually removes support when the older processor cannot handle the new OS or is missing a feature used by the OS. Prolonged support is considered a valuable feature of Apple's phones so I doubt they would drop the 7 so soon. As for going all-notch, Apple currently sells a significant number of iPhone SE to people who like the Touch ID interaction so I don't see support going away there either. In fact, it looks like over the next couple of years, the notch will be getting smaller, moving to a punch, and then going away entirely. It's a notchless future...:)

I could see the line being drawn in the sand this fall with A10 based chips and newer.

This means the following devices are out:
iPhone 6S (A9)
iPhone 6S Plus (A9)
iPhone SE (A9)
iPad mini 4th Gen (A8)
iPad air 2nd Gen (A8X)
iPad 5th Gen (A9)
iPad Pro 12.9 1st Gen (A9X)
iPad Pro 9.7 1st Gen (A9X)

Could be a requirement for iOS 15 that all chips need to have performance and efficiency cores.

Also possible is the A9X based systems get one more go-around and lose support with iOS 16.

tvOS15 I guess will still support A8 based products like the Apple TV HD and HomePod.

A10 based chips would be
iPod touch 7th Gen (A10)
Apple TV 4K (A10X)
iPad Pro 12.9 2nd Gen (A10X)
iPad Pro 10.5 (A10X)
iPad 6th Gen (A10)
iPad 7th Gen (A10)
iPhone 7 (A10)
iPhone 7 Plus (A10)

I am thinking the same. The entry into iOS 15 world on iPhone will be iPhone 7 and 7+ what are also going to get ios 16 based on recent history apple device requirements for new ios. And from ios 17 minimum of 3gb of ram and machine learning aka neural engine is required.

  • iPad full screen resolution support when docked/connected to a Monitor/TV.
  • option to have widgets everywhere on the start screen on both iOS and iPadOS (think Launcher10 on Android)
  • more options for the app library (examples: show app drawer list by default, hide auto generated folders)
  • minimalist non color intrusive app icons (think action center look)

you can’t say TVOS 15 Supports A8 Apple TV HD but not iPad Mini 4 and higher to A9 for iOS/iPadOS 15. If Apple TV HD is still in production with its A8 SoC and it will get tvos 15 then so should older devices with iOS/iPadOS 15

also A9X 1st Gen 12.9 Pro has 4GB of RAM. Highly unlikely both A9X devices won’t get iPadOS 15

and last and not least both A9X iPads perform better and have better battery than A10 of iPod Touch ( it’s CPU Speed is 1.64Ghz)
