Not really. Only went up to 27.3 MB.
But the point is that it has gone up, it shouldn't. A little or a lot - if you do it several times and you have more contacts with Contact Poster, it will increase even more.

But I got an answer to my question. It is (unfortunately) not fixed in iOS 17.1. Thanks for sharing your observation.

Even if I had a thousand contact posters, if the memory usage increased proportionately to what I just saw, my overall memory usage would have increased by about 3 GB. On a device that comes with a minimum 128GB storage, that’s not going to be much of an impact. It’s not optimal for this to be occurring but, at least for me, it’s not impactful.

Release candidate with new build today I hope

On my iPhone 14PM, the phone app takes up 66.8MB running iOS 17.1ß3. Don't know what it was before, I never really looked.

Does anyone know what data is stored in the phone app?

I was about to suggest voicemail messages, but checked mine first. In storage, my phone app was taking around 160mb. Then I deleted 5 voice mail messages, and cleared out the deleted messages. Went to storage again, and now the phone app is using 377mb storage.

So, I have no idea. I'm looking forward to seeing other responses to your question.

14PM running 17.0.3, btw.

How does that work? If you talk slowly, is there some kind of auto-complete that finishes the word for you? Does the other person say "heard <date/time>" after each sentence?
That could work probably too, I am just picking my iPhone and pretending to have an important call, every time I see someone I don't like coming my way with intention talk to me 😁

Probably pointless to report it now with the RC behind the corner, but anyway. With all the talks about contact posters taking too much space (@JSBRGX I checked as well and I don't have this problem too), I've remembered that I wanted to edit my contact poster. So I did go for it, but I've walked into a bug.

Here are steps to reproduce:

1. Open phone app
2. Tap on your own contact card
3. Tap edit
4. Tap edit under contact picture
5. Tap customize —> poster

Next thing that happens is pop up window appear saying: “Failed to load asset”
