You mean the platform that would not exist if it wasn't for Apple. The Platform that Apple has to pay to maintain. Do you think all the year software updates are free for Apple to create?
Apple has created a platform, for which they charge customers, developers and partners top dollar to use. This platform is obviously very profitable for Apple and it will continue to be so. I don't understand why people here are so worried about Apple's finances, they have very capable staff and advisors to worry about it.

There are many here that believe Apple should not be able to profit off their platform in any way.

Eagerly awaiting to see if the UK is included in this now we’ve left the EU.

Sorry, not yet, according to the BBC:

Not true. I have banking apps, as just one example, on my iPhone but not on my Mac.
Same here. iOS is quite good from the cybersecurity perspective, MacOS less so. Most banks seem to encourage people to use mobile banking apps instead of browsers and computers. Many cybersecurity specialists seem to view iOS as the most secure option.

I keep my iPhone separate from my Mac. If Apple would restrict Mac to App Store, a relatively new MacBook would emerge in the pre-owned market… I need to have a Posix compliant machine with Homebrew.

On the other hand, I am not sure if I like what is happening right now. I will have alternatives I am not likely to need with the general expense of sacrificing some of the platforms security.

My view on competition is that very few people are actually forced to use Apple products. Android offers a lot more freedom.

However, before I make up my mind, let’s see what really happens…

Of course it should, it does and it will continue to do so. Apple also has to follow the law, just live everybody else. If Apple thought that complying with the laws in the EU would have made its operations in the EU not profitable, it could have just left the EU.

Yep. I'm interested to see how the new fees pan out. I have a feeling that Apple designed them to be revenue neutral. They reduced they're commission under the new terms. And given it up on apps sold through alt stores. But they started charging a massive annual fee to the most popular free apps who want to operate under the new terms or use the alt stores.

When the App Store first came out in 2008(?) many did not like the model of a store per country.

Today, that decision makes so much more sense now per market.
What? There was no other option. Every country has its own laws and regulations. It’s not like Apple could have released a worldwide store lol.

For those of you complaining about the Core Tech fees. Just understand that Apple created the platform and have the right to some of the profits that others make on it.
Have you tried out the calculator? I've tried a few calculations that suggested it was a bad deal... it feels like a maliciously compliant offer that no one will want to take.

After reading a bit more carefully this, I realize that for those of us, Open Source Software lovers, this isn’t a solution. No way the Open Source community is going to pay millions of euros on fees to Apple. Even if this third party App Stores were allowed globally.

Yeah, I really hope there's some fine print that allows open source apps to happen, but it's looking grim. Perhaps someone like GitHub could do it? But it seems doubtful.
