iPhone 15 PM and battery drain overnight. Only showed one minute Home Screen. Don’t know what app or bug is causing this.

Did a fresh install. No iCloud backup etc.

My battery life is back to normal again with iOS 17 as it was when i bought my 14 Pro Max last year.
The last few late updates for iOS 16 started to drain my battery much more during the day.
Now im back to going with 2 days with 45-50% remaining which im happy.

The only thing ive noticed since updating to iOS 17 from last week is i have not seen Optimised battery to kick in at all whenever ive plugged in the phone on charge.

I'm in the same boat as you and sometimes I wonder why Optimized Battery charging is that "dumb". For example, I've set a sleep plan with an alarm clock that goes off at the same time, every day. Why doesn't Optimized Battery charging realize that I have set an alarm and adjusts the charging accordingly?! There's definitively room for improvement...

Agreed yeah.
I too have a sleep plan set up but ive noticed it never has taking it into account but also since i updated to iOS 17 i feel the 'learning' part for Optimised has been cleared maybe and the phone has to re-learn my charging habits?

Tonight i have to plug it in for charge, lets see if Optimised kicks in or not?

iPhone 13P. My battery health was at 97% on 07/31. It’s now 09/26 and battery health is at 93%. I have fallen asleep twice while charging so the phone was charged to 100%. I never let it drop below 20%.

I mostly use a slow charger. Sometimes I do use a fast charger to top off my phone when I’m in a hurry and I always try to not let it charge over 80%.

I know most people will say oh just don’t worry about it and enjoy your phone but this battery west seems excessive to.

I better stop typing because it may drop another percent.

So it’s case with other phones too. Moved from 15 to 17 on 12 mini, same health but draining much faster. ☹️

I have a 14 Pro and my battery life is awful on iOS 17. About 3 hours less SOT than iOS 16. I did a restore and set it up as new. Still the same. Does anyone know what's going on?

Something is definitely not right, battery life is good but battery health drop is alarming.
Apple replaced my phone 14 pro max less than 3 weeks ago and I have about 15 cycles and battery health is 99%.
I don’t care about it as I am going to upgrade anyway but have never seen this significant drop in battery health.

It's crazy. How can the battery health of my phone drop 4% in less than 2 months?

Battery life is good if I don't use my phone, hah...

As someone who went iPhone 13 to 15 (both regular) the later iOS versions are definitely more taxing on the battery. iPhone 13 at 100% battery health on iOS 15 saw a sudden drop with iOS 16 and it hasn’t been the same since. New iPhone 15 is nowhere near the battery I saw with the 13 on iOS 15. And I’m not using any of the new features added since, like lock screen widgets etc.

This has been the case for years.
I remember that happening with various models and OS versions (not every version of course) and it’s not an isolated case as some people like to say, it’s an ongoing downward spiral.

This has been the case from the beginning. It never got better, it never improved; in fact, it’s the exact opposite: it has worsened significantly. The iPhone 5c on iOS 10 is far, far better than the iPhone 6s and 7 on iOS 15.

The only way to maintain good battery life forever is never to update iOS. There’s no other way. Apple defenders will deny this, they will say that maybe it’s your device, that it isn’t true, etc. The fact remains: the only way to maintain battery life forever on an iOS device (iPads are affected, too), is to never update iOS.

I thought that the iPhone Xʀ’s A12 Bionic and battery size, coupled with iOS 12’s amazing older-device-centered efficiency (or so Apple claimed), would mark the end of this. I quickly realised that it would not be the case. Want good battery life on an iPhone Xʀ? Leave it on iOS 12. Want good battery life on an iPhone 13? Leave it on iOS 15. Want good battery life on a 10.5-inch iPad Pro? Leave it on iOS 10. Want good battery life on an Air 5? Leave it on iPadOS 15.

People will make excuses, will deny it, whatever. The fact remains. There is only one way to prevent battery life degradation forever.

I don’t talk without knowledge of this, in fact:

This whole mess proves one thing, that making long lasting, high quality consumer electronics isn’t profitable for decades now…hyperproduction is dominant. ☹️

I reckon it would be possible if that were Apple’s goal. It isn’t. I don’t know whether they destroy devices on purpose, but they clearly do not care about decent longevity. They disallow downgrading, so in practice, iOS updates kill devices forever. Which is very sad.

Very true!! This has been happening since the beginning. I remember I first experienced this when I updated my iPhone 6s (which came with iOS 9) to iOS 10. I immediately lost an hour of screen on time. And an hour of SOT was a lot on that phone. I could only get around 7 hours at best. Was down to 6 hours on iOS 10.

Then when I updated my 7 Plus to iOS 11, I lost 2 hours of SOT!

Funny enough, updating my iPhone X to iOS 12 did not decrease its SOT. I’m assuming it’s because iOS 12 was focused on fixing all the iOS 11 issues. However, updating it to iOS 13 ruined it.

That made me get an 11 Pro. I don’t think the 11 Pros SOT reduced when I updated to iOS 14. Even if it did, it was very gradual. Maybe 30 mins less. And then another 30 mins less on iOS 15.

I held onto my 11 Pro until this year, when I finally upgraded to a 14 Pro. I updated this puppy to iOS 17, and my SOT went down by 2-3 hours. It’s unacceptable! I have gone back to iOS 16.6.1. Gonna stay here for as long as I can.

And in case anyone’s wondering, I always restore and set up as new when doing major updates. I never restore from backups. I always make sure the OS is “fresh”, because I do not want to deal with battery issues! With the iPhone X, I tried multiple restores, DFU restores, and even used the phone without signing into iCloud. It still drained faster and was running warm. Terrible!
