My battery life is back to normal again with iOS 17 as it was when i bought my 14 Pro Max last year.
The last few late updates for iOS 16 started to drain my battery much more during the day.
Now im back to going with 2 days with 45-50% remaining which im happy.
The only thing ive noticed since updating to iOS 17 from last week is i have not seen Optimised battery to kick in at all whenever ive plugged in the phone on charge.
Agreed yeah.I'm in the same boat as you and sometimes I wonder why Optimized Battery charging is that "dumb". For example, I've set a sleep plan with an alarm clock that goes off at the same time, every day. Why doesn't Optimized Battery charging realize that I have set an alarm and adjusts the charging accordingly?! There's definitively room for improvement...
So it’s case with other phones too. Moved from 15 to 17 on 12 mini, same health but draining much faster. ☹️iPhone 13pro. I jumped from iOS 15 to ios17 yesterday, my battery health was 93% I think.. now is down to 88%☹️
Tried every possible solution that is out there, and i always keep all of my settings optimized, but that’s it, it’s just worse. 🤷🏻♂️A few solutions were mentioned here that may apply to iOS 17: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/ios-16-battery-drain-thread.2358921/
Need update .SameI have a 14 Pro and my battery life is awful on iOS 17. About 3 hours less SOT than iOS 16. I did a restore and set it up as new. Still the same. Does anyone know what's going on?
This has been the case for years. As someone who went iPhone 13 to 15 (both regular) the later iOS versions are definitely more taxing on the battery. iPhone 13 at 100% battery health on iOS 15 saw a sudden drop with iOS 16 and it hasn’t been the same since. New iPhone 15 is nowhere near the battery I saw with the 13 on iOS 15. And I’m not using any of the new features added since, like lock screen widgets etc.
This has been the case from the beginning. It never got better, it never improved; in fact, it’s the exact opposite: it has worsened significantly. The iPhone 5c on iOS 10 is far, far better than the iPhone 6s and 7 on iOS 15.This has been the case for years.
I remember that happening with various models and OS versions (not every version of course) and it’s not an isolated case as some people like to say, it’s an ongoing downward spiral.
This whole mess proves one thing, that making long lasting, high quality consumer electronics isn’t profitable for decades now…hyperproduction is dominant. ☹️This has been the case from the beginning. The only way to maintain good battery life forever is never to update iOS. There’s no other way. Apple defenders will deny this, they will say that maybe it’s your device, that it isn’t true, etc. The fact remains: the only way to maintain battery life forever on an iOS device (iPads are affected, too), is to never update iOS.
I thought that the iPhone Xʀ’s A12 Bionic and battery size, coupled with iOS 12’s amazing older-device-centered efficiency (or so Apple claimed), would mark the end of this. I quickly realised that it would not be the case. Want good battery life on an iPhone Xʀ? Leave it on iOS 12. Want good battery life on an iPhone 13? Leave it on iOS 15. Want good battery life on a 10.5-inch iPad Pro? Leave it on iOS 10. Want good battery life on an Air 5? Leave it on iPadOS 15.
People will make excuses, will deny it, whatever. The fact remains. There is only one way to prevent battery life degradation forever.
I don’t talk without knowledge of this, in fact:

I reckon it would be possible if that were Apple’s goal. It isn’t. I don’t know whether they destroy devices on purpose, but they clearly do not care about decent longevity. They disallow downgrading, so in practice, iOS updates kill devices forever. Which is very sad. This whole mess proves one thing, that making long lasting, high quality consumer electronics isn’t profitable for decades now…hyperproduction is dominant. ☹️
