Phone calls are pretty draining, but yeah, that doesn’t look good. Definitely not for the latest iPhone on its original iOS version.

We’ve come a long way when it comes to iPhones’ battery life, but heavy usage is still not great. Poor cellular signal is still an issue, especially when usage is moderately heavy and brightness is high.

On the other hand, with light use, iPhones have been two-day phones since the Plus models first arrived.
Light use but only on WiFi. I compare my battery on data only when I am driving or just being near uptown vs at home where I have 4/4 bars or strong 3/4. Day and night. So it is clearly low signal issue but I am not sure if it is iOS 17 or iPhone 15 pro issue. Probably iOS.

Cellular has always been worse than Wi-Fi even with perfect signal, so that’s not surprising. With perfect cellular conditions my iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12 is about 25% worse than Wi-Fi with the same settings and usage.

Poor cellular conditions? It will drop significantly more than that. It’s normal. I don’t think it’s either your phone or iOS 17, it’s just how it works. My iPhone Xʀ wouldn’t fare better with poor cellular signal.

I know that but still. I am pretty sure that iOS 17 is worse than previous iOS so it is clearly visible right now. My iPhone 15 pro could last same amount of time as mini 13. It shouldn’t be like that.

Wow, that isn’t good. I’ve seen people complain about the 14 series’ paltry battery life, the 15 series is no improvement over it?

iOS 17.2 RC on my 13 Pro Max. Unplugged at 5am, around 7pm recharged it from 18% to 47% and I’m now at 22% left with 6h SOT.
At this point I’m starting to believe these conspiracy theories that they do this on purpose especially with the fact my battery was perfectly fine on iOS 17.0 B6 and we’re already on 17.2 and there’s no improvement for me at all.
I have even received complaints from my friends about battery life even though I didn’t talk to them about iOS 17 at all.

I think this is the most laughable part of Apple's battery claim on the 15 Pro Max. I mean does anyone even get half of what Apple claims in the following? And this was the claim when the phone was released with iOS 17.0, which one would expect battery life to be improved being at 17.2 RC now.

I can get the 16 hours Apple claims on the iPhone Xʀ (on iOS 12, of course, it’s impossible if updated), but it’s very light use, low brightness, and efficient settings. So near-perfect conditions. Otherwise it’s impossible, too.

Apple’s claim has always been pretty high, and pretty much nobody gets that with daily use.

As soon as I break away from those conditions, 16 hours is impossible. Enable LTE? Not getting 16 hours. Increasing brightness a little? Not getting 16 hours. It’s possible, but a standard user will probably never be even close. Getting half that is probably good today. I don’t think anyone would complain about 14 hours.

Here’s my battery life on my 15 after updating to 17.2 last night. Not much of a difference from the previous iOS version.

I would take the quoted numbers with a pinch of salt. They probably achieved these numbers without being connected to cellular.

Same here, been running 17.2 for a day and a half now and while I haven't drained the battery fully and been using it on 4G/5G for a day it feels like its very similar to 17.1.2, which has been working great for me. 13Pro

I'm keen to pull the trigger on 17.3 B1 , specially for the new protection feature. The only thing holding me back right now is wether battery life is impacted compared to 17.2

Yeah this definitely looks like an original iOS version device, very nice battery life. Similar to my iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12.

I might just have my 15 running on iOS 17 even after the iOS 18 drops. Rumours have it to be an all new design so I would think that there will be bugs and such so I might not upgrade to that immediately.

You’ve read what I posted on the other thread, you know that I flawlessly have my iPhone Xʀ on iOS 12 and you know what I recommend.

I guess ultimately if you upgrade frequently that doesn’t really matter, but if you’re planning to keep the 15 for a while I absolutely recommend staying on iOS 17 forever.

iOS 17.2 destroyed my 12 Mini. I hope that is just the system setting up all internal things but is already 4-5 since I installed the update.

One night I left the phone with 80%+ of battery and the next morning it went down to 25-30%. And also I cant reach a day without charging thing that I did with iOS 17.1.

I hope the phone returns to a normal consume but man, it has been a rough update for my little boy

For what it’s worth...

Ridiculously good. That was how my XR did back in 2018. What is your current battery health?
93%. I’m not a heavy user, but yeah, it’s the only way. I’m realistically not expecting it to drop even if battery health drops, I have experience with degraded batteries on original iOS versions and battery life doesn’t change. A nearly 3K mAh battery will be even less affected I reckon.

Still getting standby battery drain on my iPhone 11. At midnight it was just over 50%. All apps closed, background app refresh fully off. At 7am it was down to 16%

I have a fairly vanilla iPhone 11 as a testdevice and I haven't seen any battery related issues. Have had mine getting nearly a weeks standby. But it doesn't have many apps installed other than MS office suite and MDM components and are just sitting there not being used much.
It normally pretty stationary and connected to cellular and WiFi. And cellular with quite bad reception/coverage, but don't think it matters as cellular isn't used.

Try and put it in airplane mode over night, disconnect wifi another night and so on so that there aren't any issues with that.
Also if you can, uninstall older apps and/or make sure apps are updated.
Other services such as VPN can affect batterylife depending on the service.
